I highly doubt they'll have walters at 62k, usually players like him are around 105k.

BBL draft was super disappointing tonight I won't lie. 13 Englishmen picked makes me inclined to believe the only research that most teams did was watching the Hundred. Draft probably should be scrapped after 2 failures in a row
Agree was super disappointing, I like the concept but they really drag it out and really should be on closer to the start of the year as some of the coaches stressed particularly those that passed twice.

Look away @Pacifico

Round 4

MS - Usama Mir
AS - Hose
HH - pass
MR - pass (only selected 2 players)
ST - pass (only selected 2 players)
SS - Rehan Ahmed
BH - pass
PS - pass (only selected 2 players)
Not going to lie, I was starting to twitch in rage in that last round

Don’t think too many would be happy at CA after tonight, drafts been a decent idea with horrible half baked execution so far.

I don’t blame the teams for drafting/passing how they did, it’s on ca for allowing it to happen to such an extent

need to tighten it up if they are going to stick with the concept in the future

I obviously have missed something , thought the reason for the Draft was to pick the 2-3 OS players but Rosengarten has come out and guaranteed the Renegades will have 3 OS players in their Round 1 team.

My 2 cents worth for the internationals selected in this years draft, particularly some of the unknowns.

Rashid Khan - Haven’t heard much about him but he sounds like he could go alright
Jamie Overton - Definitely relevant, has had back issues recently I believe so hasn’t been bowling as much but should have a good role if he does bowl his full overs, should bat 6-7 and have a decent hit
Hose - Should only build on last years season but not as relevant

Harry Brook - Should definitely go better than his last hit out here for the canes, will likely be pricey so maybe one for when he dips in price
Haris Rauf - Will be one of my first picked barring fixture, very relevant
Usama Mir - Haven’t seen a lot of him but from what I have seen like very much, think he’s just as good if not better than Shadab when playing for Pakistan, should be a basement priced POD and will likely start barring fixture

Tom Curran - Will be a solid pick, improved his batting by a mile
James Vince - Quality batter but not sure on relevance, will have to watch for form
Rehan Ahmed - Raw spinner that gives it a rip, does bowl a bit short at times but should be decent enough, can bat a bit too

Chris Jordan - Should be a decent pick
Sam Hain - Similar to Hose, think he’ll have a better year as well especially with the smaller grounds down in Tasmania, has been batting well domestically in England as well
Corey Anderson - Somewhat relevant if what punter said was true about him getting a few overs in, should be basement price as well. Honestly forgot he was still playing

Quinton De Kock - will be pricey, not sure on availability either but is a quality player and should go ok at Marvel as he plays spin pretty well
Mujeeb Ur Rahman - Definitely relevant, do expect him to bounce back after a few lean years and has been bowling well recently as well, should be cheap too, former 200k+ player

Alex Hales - Definitely would stay away, if he hits a purple patch I’d consider but form hasn’t been great and is getting on with age
Zaman Khan - Watched him for Manchester Originals, bit of a skiddy wish version of Malinga but does have a bit of extra pace, like him as a POD but bit of a risk as did tend to go the distance sometimes

Colin Munro - Bit hit and miss sometimes but should still be fine, age may be getting to him as well
Sam Billings - Should only build on last year, probably won’t keep due to Pierson but should field at cow and get a few extra fielding points
Paul Walter - Discussed above, hits a big ball and bowling should be suited to Gabba, not sure if best 11 consistently. Bit of a bits and pieces cricketer

Zac Crawley - Speaks for himself, like the pick but we‘ll see how he goes at a quicker, bouncier Optus deck than those small county grounds
Laurie Evans - Have no idea where he’ll bat, getting on with age but has been good domestically in England

Thanks for reading my essay, will be more than happy to discuss further additions to squads closer to the season

First time I have seen a player pool mentioned after the Draft

From the Renegades website :-

The Renegades passed on both their third and fourth round picks in the Draft, with a view to signing a player outside of the draft.

“What it does do is give you a bit of flexibility to directly sign an overseas player,” Rosengarten said.

“I absolutely guarantee we’ll have three primary listed overseas players and three in that starting XI come game one. What it means now is it gives us flexibility to do what we want… now all players go into a free agency pool and we’re free to speak to them.

“There’s a couple of good options that got through – all of the players we were looking at for that third pick are still in the pool, which is good.”

From the Scorchers website :-

Perth concluded the Draft by passing in the Bronze round, with the option of signing a third international closer to the BBL|13 season.

“(Not using a third selection) gives us some flexibility. We think we’ve got enough cover in terms of our domestic and local fast bowlers. Having said that, injuries happen, Aussie selection happens, and I think that’s probably the biggest thing that will dictate that third spot.”

I agree it seems very strange to allow the negotiation after the draft with those same potential players.
It makes sense logistically, and for the teams' benefit, but devalues the draft's value other than the main retention player per team plus a few picks.
Next year they will probably all do this tactic, resulting in the 8-10 obvious choices/retentions, then a few other names selected.

It has so much potential to be entertaining, so I hope it doesn't become something that feels unnecessary..

Meanwhile, with every club required to make a minimum of two selections in the KFC BBL|13 Draft, the Scorchers, Thunder and Melbourne Renegades raised eyebrows by passing twice during their four selections and ending the draft with only two overseas players.

It was the first time clubs had only drafted two players after all eight teams picked three times in the inaugural event last year.

While there is no direct nomination rule in place for the BBL, clubs are now permitted to sign a third primary overseas player with approval from the league's Technical Committee, provided that player nominated for the draft and wasn't selected. This option is also available to WBBL teams.
Players contracted under this mechanism negotiate their salary for the season directly with the club.

While not strictly a loophole, it allows a club like the Scorchers – who held the 32nd and final pick in the BBL|13 Draft – to avoid a salary cap squeeze by paying their third overseas player less than the bronze tier amount of $100,000.

The five-time champions have the strongest domestic list of the eight men's Big Bash clubs and also passed in the platinum round, as they did in the inaugural BBL Draft last year.

Their selection of Zak Crawley in the second round in the gold tier, and Laurie Evans in round three as a silver tier means the club spent just $500,000 on two internationals out of the club's $3m 'total player payment pool'.

Hurricanes Head of Strategy Ricky Ponting said he believed signing a third overseas player outside the draft gave rivals a glimpse of how some clubs were saving their money for the second half of BBL|13 to cover the departure of their bigger names due to international duty or other domestic T20 leagues.

Crawley & Evans are perfect additions to the Scorchers squad for mine.

Perth Scorchers squad :-
Ashton Agar, Jason Behrendorff, Cooper Connolly, Aaron Hardie, Nick Hobson, Josh Inglis, Matthew Kelly, Mitch Marsh, Lance Morris, Jhye Richardson, Ashton Turner, Andrew Tye, Zak Crawley & Laurie Evans

Guess at the best 11 :-

1. Crawley
2. Evans
3. Marsh
4. Hardie
5. Turner
6. Inglis
7. Agar
8. Richardson
9. Morris
10. Tye
11. Behrendorff

Strong team that will be one of the favourites again.
Should walk it in with that side to be honest hahaha.

Not sure what's happening with NCN , lose Hatcher so might need a OS quick as well.
Pretty sure I saw a photo on the socials of him at one of the school clinic things that the Stars and Renegades were doing a couple of weeks back, wearing Stars kit. So would assume he's coming back again for another year.

Unless my memory has deceived me and I've just imagined it haha.

No shortage of options then if they go 7-4.

Imagine Boland would still be back up for the Tests so might be Couch , NCN , Paris , Steketee fighting it out for 2 spots alongside the 2 Pakistani's.

One of the more average pools of internationals you will see.

Why sides keep signing off Hundred output when its completely different conditions continues to baffle me.
I thought the draft pool was great, the player selections very disappointing. Hoping a few more big names find their way into teams.

Im all for the Scorchers method to be honest, pay the cap money to home grown talent thats actually going to be available for you, too many sides putting a third of their cap into internationals and leaving themselves with a rubbish lineup come the business end of the season when they have to sign replacements on bottom dollar.
