Adelaide Strikers captain Travis Head and star wicketkeeper Alex Carey are in line for a return to action for the Adelaide Strikers tomorrow, both named in the 14-player squad to take on Brisbane Heat at Adelaide Oval.

Strikers Squad: Wes Agar, Cameron Boyce, Alex Carey (wk) Harry Conway, Colin de Grandhomme, Travis Head (c) Adam Hose, Henry Hunt, Thomas Kelly, Chris Lynn, Ben Manenti, Matt Short, Peter Siddle, Henry Thornton

Speaking from Adelaide Oval today, Alex Carey said he can’t wait to return to the side.

“It feels great, we’ve been speaking a lot about returning to the Strikers, it’s really exciting. Travis and I are really keen to hopefully help the team have a strong performance. Finals aren’t too far away and we’re sitting in a decent position, but we need to win at least two, probably three of these next four, so we are really keen.”

Travis Head is equally excited to get back in the blue.

“I feel like I’m playing well, the technique is in good order and I’m looking forward to getting out there for the Strikers. We are having a hit today and not much changes for me, we’ll be ready to go.”

Colin de Grandhomme has also returned to the squad for the clash after missing last night’s game with a hamstring strain. Harry Nielsen and Ryan Gibson are the two players to come out of the squad.

The Strikers are coming off a tough loss to the Stars at the MCG yesterday and will be looking to right the ship in front of another bumper home crowd tomorrow afternoon.

The Strikers match against the Heat will get underway at 3.30pm ACDT and will be broadcast live on Foxtel and Kayo Sports.

The Sydney Sixers have named a 17-player squad ahead of Sunday’s blockbuster meeting with longtime rivals, the Perth Scorchers at the SCG.

The Sixers will welcome back Australian superstars Steve Smith and Nathan Lyon, with the pair pulling on the magenta for the first time this summer.

The much-loved pair will mark their return on the back of a successful Test series, defeating South Africa on home soil.

English duo Chris Jordan and James Vince departed Australia following the Sydney Smash last weekend, capping their time down under with a win over crosstown counterparts, Sydney Thunder.

The Sixers ended a busy period of seven games in fourteen days with five wins, one loss and one clash at North Sydney Oval rained out before a six-day break.

The match will mark the second time the two sides meet this summer, with the Scorchers defeating the Sixers by 38 runs in Perth earlier this season.

Sixers squad v Perth Scorchers:

Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, Dan Christian, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mickey Edwards, Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Hayden Kerr, Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Izharulhaq Naveed, Stephen O’Keefe, Kurtis Patterson, Josh Philippe, Jordan Silk, Steve Smith.

Sunday night's match will kick off at 7.15pm (AEDT) and be broadcast live via Channel 7, Fox Cricket and Kayo.

Sydney Thunder has named a 14-player squad for tomorrow’s KFC Big Bash League match against the Hobart Hurricanes at Blundstone Arena, starting at 1.40pm.

After a four-match winning streak, Thunder has suffered two consecutive defeats – losing the Sydney Smash to the Sixers, and last night, to the Perth Scorchers despite the presence of marquee signing Dave Warner and a dominant 52 by Ollie Davies.

Speaking post-match, Acting Captain Chris Green said the team was prepared for a tough match in Hobart.

“It’s going to be a great match. We had a great match against them in Albury; we know they’re going to want to get one back on us.

"We saw how hard they came out with the bat and the ball. We need to be ‘on’. We need to go in full of confidence.

“We’re not far off the mark. I kind of feel we’re in a similar position to the start of the season where we were one win and three losses. We’ve had back-to-back losses, but we’ve seen what we can do when we get on a bit of a run.

“With four games to go I think we can take it to the opposition, to trust our game - and to enjoy the challenge. This tournament is fun, we enjoy playing with one another. My message would be to continue to express ourselves with both bat and ball and out in the field.

“If we can build a few more partnerships with the bat we’ve seen we can score that high 220 mark and put a lot of sides under pressure with the way we’re bowling.”

Thunder currently sits in fifth place on the BBL|12 ladder, while Hobart are just two points behind in sixth position.

Squad for Sydney Thunder v Hobart Hurricanes
Ben Cutting, Joel Davies, Oliver Davies, Brendan Doggett, Matthew Gilkes, Chris Green (c), Baxter Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Ross Pawson, Usman Qadir, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, David Warner, Sam Whiteman.

Sydney Thunder-Hobart Hurricanes is set to begin at 1.40pm (AEDT) and will be broadcast live on Channel 7, Fox Cricket and Kayo.

Perth Scorchers have named a 15-player extended squad for their important KFC Big Bash League clash with Hobart Hurricanes at Optus Stadium tonight.

Hard-hitting right-hander Chris Sabburg re-enters the fray alongside the 14 players who travelled east last week.

Sabburg, who boasts an impressive Alcohol. Think Again Premier Cricket record for Wanneroo and former club University, featured three times during the Scorchers’ title-winning BBL|11 campaign.

A victory for Perth over the Hurricanes would see them reclaim first spot on the BBL|12 ladder from Sydney Sixers.

Factoring third-placed Melbourne Renegade’s net run rate, a win would also place Perth in the box seat to secure their place in the Qualifier on 28 January, hosted by the minor premiers.

Tonight’s Aboriginal and Community themed contest will see the Scorchers don their Aboriginal shirts, designed by Jade Dolman, an Aboriginal artist with Whadjuk/Ballardong, Eastern Arrernte heritage.

The shirt artwork depicts the resilience of water through flow and adaptability, while the concentric circles in the foreground represent the ripple effects of new opportunities and connections.

Dr Richard Walley OAM, who designed the Mandala on all Scorchers playing shirts, will perform the Welcome to Country while players from both sides gather around the Mandala Silk for a Barefoot Circle.

Jade Dolman will paint an artwork during the first innings of the match which will represent everyone who is at the venue physically and in spirit to celebrate reconciliation through cricket.

The painting will be donated to the WA Cricket Foundation, and auctioned in support of the programs the WA Cricket Foundation funds. The auction website will go live at 4:45pmAWST, on Wednesday 18 January for 48 hours.

Pre-game, more the 45 cricket clubs will take part in a community club march before the match with 800 cricket participants walking a lap of the field.

Perth and Hobart are poised to resume hostilities when the first ball is bowled at 4:40PM, WST.

Sydney Thunder has named a 15-player squad for tomorrow’s KFC Big Bash League match against the Melbourne Renegades at Manuka Oval, Canberra, starting at 7.15pm.

Thunder has suffered three consecutive defeats – including last Sunday’s loss to Hobart Hurricanes - despite another phenomenal effort by young batter, Oliver ‘Ollie’ Davies.

Thunder is caught in the log jam of teams trying to qualify for the BBL Finals, and speaking ahead of the showdown with the Renegades, vice-captain Alex Ross nominated it as a ‘crucial’ game.

“This is probably the most crucial game in the rest of our season because we’re right in the middle [of the BBL’s competition ladder] with the Renegades,” said Ross.

“Our other two games, as important as they will be, won’t affect our position on the ladder compared to those teams. Tomorrow night is going to be huge for us: we win, hopefully it will go a long way to putting us in the finals.

Ross on being Thunder’s vice-captain

“I’m really enjoying the leadership part of it. It was a funny introduction – with injuries to Jason Sangha, and then when Chris Green stepped up [to our Acting Captain] we needed someone on the team sheet as vice-captain to fill that VC role.”

Ross on young star batter, Ollie Davies

"He’s a star of Australian cricket. His last innings – when we lost in Hobart – was probably his most impressive in terms of maturity. He can go out and hit all these amazing shots, and that was an innings where, if someone had have gone with him it would have been a match-winning innings. Unfortunately for him we couldn’t do that.”

Ross on David Warner’s impact

“We saw Steve Smith make a hundred for the Sixers, we’re hoping Davey can do the same. I know he’ll feel a little jealous now, and he’ll probably go for form tomorrow night.

“He’s been outstanding for the group. His energy . . . he’s like a 12-year-old kid running around the room.

Absolutely incredible! The amount of knowledge he has, just from the broad amount of experience of games [is unbelievable]. He was talking about things in a batting meeting that no one had even heard of.

“It really was great to be exposed to that kind of experience. We walk a whole lot taller with Davey in the side, without a doubt.”

Squad for Sydney Thunder v Melbourne Renegades
Ben Cutting, Joel Davies, Oliver Davies, Brendan Doggett, Matthew Gilkes, Chris Green (c), Baxter Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Blake Nikitaras, Ross Pawson, Usman Qadir, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, David Warner, Sam Whiteman.

Sydney Thunder-Melbourne Renegades is set to begin at 7.15pm (AEDT) and will be broadcast live on Channel 7, Fox Cricket and Kayo.

Sydney Thunder BBL|12 Squad
Head Coach: Trevor Bayliss
Contracted Players: Ben Cutting, Joel Davies, Ollie Davies, Brendan Doggett, Matthew Gilkes, Toby Gray, Chris Green, Alex Hales, Baxter Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Blake Nikitaras, Ross Pawson, Usman Qadir, Alex Ross, Rilee Rossouw, Daniel Sams, Gurinder Sandhu, Jason Sangha, Tanveer Sangha, David Warner, Sam Whiteman.

The Brisbane Heat has added pace bowler Mark Steketee to their squad to prepare for tomorrow night’s crucial KFC Big Bash League match against the Hobart Hurricanes at the Gabba.

The fast bowler comes into the 14-man squad after missing selection for the past three matches.

Brisbane has won its past two matches and will look to make it three in a row to mark the 100th BBL game for wicket-keeper Jimmy Peirson tomorrow.

Peirson joins former captain Chris Lynn as BBL Heat players to bring up 100 games, joining WBBL duo Jess Jonassen and Laura Harris in registering the century milestone for the club.

Tomorrow’s match is the second game in a double-header with exclusive coverage on FOX and streaming on Kayo.

The match will be the Heat’s home game in the BBL Indigenous Round that has been held over the past week, with the team wearing its First Nations playing strip in its past two games.

The stories behind the Heat’s Indigenous jersey design, which was debuted last year and features a design created by local artist Delly McDonald and WBBL Brisbane Heat player Mikayla Hinkley, are as follows:

Front: flames of Heat logo, Gabba circle with players sitting, circle represents harmony and unity, bringing players and fans together.

Back: Brisbane River with its abundance of food, plus animal and human tracks. Rainbow serpent/snake represents both male and female. Circle represents Gabba, plus roads travelled to and from it by teams.

Sleeve: Centre circle is Gabba, alongside other water holes which used to be near the ground. The 87 black strokes on red earth represent the first-class wickets taken by Aboriginal cricketing trail-blazer, Eddie Gilbert (23 games for Qld).

Queensland Cricket this week announced its partnership with Deadly Choices, the nationally recognised preventative health program in Queensland.

Deadly Choices is an initiative of the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health (IUIH), which aims to empower Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to make healthy choices for themselves and their families, while encouraging individuals to access their local Community Controlled Health Service to complete an annual ‘Health Check’

As part of this, replica BBL/WBBL Heat jerseys based on the Heat’s First Nations playing strip will be offered as an incentive for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples who book in for a health check at any of the five participating Community Controlled Health Service organisations throughout South-East Queensland.

Perth Scorchers have named a 14-player squad for their KFC Big Bash League clash with Adelaide Strikers at Adelaide Oval tomorrow.

Talented all-rounder Cooper Connolly, cult hero Peter Hatzoglou and reliable English import David Payne are in the frame for selection, alongside the 11 that toppled Hobart Hurricanes by seven wickets at Optus Stadium last night.

Victory against Adelaide would mathematically ensure the Scorchers finish inside the top two, booking their berth in The Qualifier on Saturday 28 January.

Should they win both their remaining games, including Sunday's blockbuster clash with Melbourne Renegades at Optus Stadium, Perth will claim the minor premiership and earn hosting rights for The Qualifier.

Aaron Hardie shapes as an important cog to the Club's fortunes, having flourished since his promotion to No.3.

The hard-hitting allrounder, who is now fit to bowl after a minor quad complaint, has struck 224 runs at 112 (strike rate 144) in five innings at first drop, including 90 not-out from 62 delivers against the Hurricanes.

Meantime, evergreen seamer AJ extended his lead atop the competition's wicket-taking table last night, jagging another two scalps versus Hobart.

Tye has taken 22 wickets at 16.59 during BBL|12, leading Sixers spearhead Sean Abbott (20 wickets at 16.30).

Perth and Adelaide will lock horns from 1:30PM, WST.

The Sydney Sixers have named a 17-player extended squad for Saturday night's blockbuster against the Sydney Thunder at the SCG.

The latest installment of the Sydney Smash is sure to see fireworks on and off the field, with finals positions on the line for both sides.

One of the most anticipated matches of the season, the Sydney derby will be turned up a notch tomorrow night with the addition of Australian superstars, Steve Smith, Nathan Lyon and the Thunder's David Warner.

The Sixers were victorious over their crosstown rivals earlier in the month, defeating the Thunder by 7 wickets at Sydney Showground.

Moises Henriques (53*) and Sixers leading run-scorer Jordan Silk (59*) were the difference with the bat, while Sean Abbott (3-9) was the star with the ball.

Smith will look to replicate his form from earlier in the week, notching the first men's century for a Sydney Sixer on Tuesday night in Co*** Harbour.

Finishing on 101 (from 59 deliveries), Smith was dominant in the Sixers 59-run victory over the Adelaide Strikers.

Sydney Sixers squad v Sydney Thunder:

Sean Abbott, Jackson Bird, Dan Christian, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mickey Edwards, Moises Henriques, Daniel Hughes, Hayden Kerr, Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy, Izharulhaq Naveed, Steve O'Keefe, Kurtis Patterson, Josh Philippe, Jordan Silk, Steve Smith.

First ball is scheduled for 7.05pm and will be broadcast live via Fox Cricket and Kayo. Gates open at 5.05pm.

Sydney Thunder has named a 17-player squad for tomorrow’s KFC Big Bash League match against the Sydney Sixers at the Sydney Cricket Ground, starting at 7.05pm.

Thunder will take to the field after last night’s victory over the Melbourne Renegades, in which batter/wicketkeeper Matthew Gilkes was named Player of the Match after he scored an unbeaten 74 from 55 deliveries.

The team representing western Sydney will be determined to avenge their loss in the ‘Smash’ that was played at Sydney Showground Stadium on January 8. Thunder’s marquee signing. David Warner has advised his teammates that ‘mindset’ and ‘attitude’ will be important factors.

“To win the Sydney Smash we have to come out with a great, positive attitude and mindset,” he said. “We have to start well with the bat or the ball – whichever we do first – and from there it is energy in the ring, and energy with the bat.”

Warner on why the Sydney Smash is so important to both teams

“I think it’s just east versus west, isn’t it? That’s how it has always been. It’s a great spectacle, we know both teams love that rivalry, and we can’t wait to get out there and play each other.”

Warner on the impact he is having on Thunder’s younger players?

"If they can learn anything from me, it would just be to listen because I’m starting to listen as I get older. I think it is helping . . . especially listening before I speak.”

Warner on Thunder’s squad and the club’s young players

“We know each other’s capabilities, each person in the team has their own individual roles and we try to execute that as best as we can. We have that strong self-belief.

“We have some great young talent coming through, we’ve got depth of good cricket and youngsters. I’m excited to see the potential they bring. We’ve obviously seen Ollie Davies go about his business, and his brother [Joel]. ‘Niki’ [Blake Nikitaras], we haven’t seen come out yet, but I know what he can bring to the table.

“The future is in good hands with these youngsters coming through, and once us old fellas move out of the situation these guys will learn a lot from us hopefully – keep progressing through the grades – and hopefully lift that trophy this year, and so on.”

Squad for Sydney Thunder v Sydney Sixers
Ben Cutting, Joel Davies, Oliver Davies, Brendan Doggett, Matthew Gilkes, Toby Gray, Chris Green (c), Baxter Holt, Nathan McAndrew, Blake Nikitaras, Ross Pawson, Usman Qadir, Alex Ross, Daniel Sams, Gurinder Sandhu, David Warner, Sam Whiteman.
Sydney Thunder-Sydney Sixers is set to begin at 7.05pm (AEDT) and will be broadcast live on Fox Cricket and Kayo.
