After the raging success of the Cricket World Cup Fantasy Sweep (and some politely encouragement from some SCS members), I am considering running a similar competition for the upcoming Big Bash League and am wishing to gauge interest.

The basic concept is that each participant is randomly drawn batting positions and a bowling positions from each team from each game. The players that occupy those spots will then earn points based on their performances in the game. Points awarded will likely be as per BBL SuperCoach.

The key feature is that it will not require participants to spend countless hours agonising over their selections. You just need to enter, pay and see how you go.

For those that did participate in the World Cup version I would expect there would be some differences to that due to the differences between the 50 over game and the 20 over game. I would also consider some learnings from that competition. I will provide full competition rules in due course.

There would be a nominal entry fee (probably $10) and 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes at least. I may get a little more creative on comp structures and prizes if numbers permit.

If you are interested then please post in this thread.

Definitely in, the World Cup comp was extremely well run and encouraged me to follow a lot of games I otherwise wouldn’t have!

Bump-a-rooney.
For those that haven't been in Mark's comps before, all I can tell you is, they are exceptionally well run, and lots of fun!

Not exactly bowled over with interest so far (see what I did there) which I understand given most people on this site will be fully engaged in BBL SC. I would want around 30 before I go ahead so if we don’t get up to that by say this time next week then I will let it slide.

Just to put a bit more flesh on the bone this is what I am thinking for this edition.
  • Each entrant will be randomly drawn 3 players from each side in each game (for a total of 6 each game)
  • The draw will be based on the batting order (actual then listed) as follows;
  • 1 player from 1-4 (likely to be specialist bat)
  • 1 player from 5-8 (could be bat/bowl/all rounder or keeper)
  • 1 player from 9-11 (highly likely to be a specialist bowler)
  • Players score point based on all of their batting, bowling and fielding efforts
  • Points likely to be as per SC
  • Two of the players drawn from each entrant for each round will be serve as captain and vice captain. Captain will score x2 and VC will score x1.5
  • Prizes will depend on entries however I would aim for 1st, 2nd and 3rd and last and then some intermediate prize categories as per WC Sweep.
  • Thinking $10 entry fee but can reduce that to $5 if that is a barrier.
Hopefully a few more details will tempt a few more. I will think through all the finer details over the next week so I am ready to go if we get enough.

Happy to take any queries.

I was a bit on the fence as I usually have awful luck in sweeps, and was hoping for a few more entries before I said anything, had a feeling you would want more people than what had already said they wanted to be in it. Hopefully there's a few others who have been holding out too.

I'm willing to sign up if it goes ahead. I did follow the WC one you ran and gave myself random numbers for each match - I would have finished bottom 10 and got no prizes based on those numbers. It did look like a lot of fun though, and I do like the sound of how this would go.

I am kind of amused and flattered by the fact you shadow boxed a long in the WC sweep. Welcome to the main event. Good luck.

We're still a few off from our intended target to make it worthwhile for the competition to go ahead considering the amount of admin involved.

I would like to emphasize that the only thing required is your commitment to partake in the competition, there's NOTHING further you need to do for the duration of the competition. I can vouch that @Beg2Differ to a season pro when it comes to administering to these type of competitions...and he has plenty of runs on the board so to speak.

If you're intending to follow the Big Bash cricket with a keen eye, join up for a bit of fun and marvel at how such a competition should be run and administered. Only a few days left until Mark has to make the decision...
