Maybe I don’t watch enough international T20 (and I didn’t see last night’s game), but an attack of Adil Rashid, Chris Woakes, Chris Jordan, Liam Livingstone and Tymal Mills wouldn’t be striking fear into too many sides, I wouldn’t have thought.

A number of them were fringe players/bowlers in the IPL, and I suspect some of them may not have been picked up.

Woakes is a seriously underrated player. Probably one of the better new ball bowlers going around in white ball cricket. He had a little in the pitch to work with in that first innings.

Australia simply never recovered from the poor start. 160 was what we needed at the very least, and as we saw, England are capable of chasing even bigger scores in these conditions.

If we are to scrape through to the next stage, our best hope is bowling first and restricting them to under 150.

Woakes is probably the biggest name on that list (albeit I quite like Jordan in comps like BBL). I was surprised to see Woakes didn’t play any T20s (even domestic) in 2019 or 2020. He pulled out of the 2020 IPL and seemingly went unsold in 2019.

He’s performed well in the format YTD, with 11 wickets in 10 games at an ER of 6.46.
