Carey could be in for a "wasted" season.

Given Wade wasn't part of the Test Squad chosen to go to South Africa and will miss Shield games due to the T20 WC to push his case for Test selection.

Hopefully a few middle order batsman put their hands up for selection when the Shield starts , not sure going back to Head is the right decision or Henriques.

I do recall reading a article where Ponting suggested Harris could bat 5 or 6 (providing of course Pucovski is fit and plays 6 Tests)

Surely they don't play Carey as a specialist bat.

Hopefully Green establishs himself.

Will they include Carey in a extended Test Squad in case they need him as concussion replacement for Paine or in fact if Paine is injured unexpectedly.

Could just be sitting in the dressing room the whole summer.

I suspect (at this stage) Carey will be the Australia A captain.

Marcus Harris is at that point where he needs another long term shot at the test team. Batted at 3 for much of the county season and did quite well. I don't think its too much of a stretch to bat at 5 from there. In any case, Harris is far better off being in the test bubble for the summer than the BBL setup. The same for Pucovski providing he is fit.

Had a bit of time on my hands today so just for you @Herbie66 here is what I have thus far:

- Noting that I'd be very surprised if this draw survives until the start of the competition but it is quicker to edit than start from scratch
- Also noting that if the AUS-A game is scheduled at the same time as the 1st test then the first few weeks could be very interesting player availability wise

1. Nothing new from previous years and just added a few extra tidbits from what @Tamuhawk had already posted (dates and expanded the DGR rounds etc)

View attachment 32612

2. I've included the venues this year and that idea came from seeing what @bricemitchell put together last year
- I'm going to experiment with this to see if I can better maximise what players I bring in for a SGR/DGR this year according to the venue, opposition and travel schedule etc
- Ie only PER in round 9 have a true DGR set of home games etc

That's a gorgeous table Tails. Given the DGR/BYE situation and how strong this team is, I can see many successful teams starting with a strong base of Sydney 6'ers players. Probably a space for a strong Scorcher and Hurricane player too given their byes are still after their DGR later in the season.

Have to agree to disagree 😀

10 Tests and averaging 23.78 , I have seen enough to think he will never make it at this level (happy to be proven wrong)

Seriously hope Smith is ok , otherwise we are going to be very reliant on Labuschagne & Warner.

Too early to judge Green & Pucovski.

Based on what England did against New Zealand we are probably lucky that their batting lineup is worse than ours.

Might need to have a look at last season's Shield runs to see if their is anything their worth having a look at (just in case)

Australia A v Lions confirmed for Dec 9-12.

Looks like the other games for England and the Lions will just be intra squad practice matches , unless they have first class games lined up in New Zealand or something.

Not sure how one game in early December helps them if players are needed for the final tests.

Be interesting to see who the ECB "allow" to play Big Bash.

Wait and see on how big their touring squad is I guess

They also have a T20I series v West Indies late Jan/early Feb scheduled.

England's Test Squad v India announced today , talk of a recall for Bairstow.

Was just looking at career averages for Burns , Sibley , Crawley & Pope (all under 35)

Hard to judge Stokes on average alone (37.04) , Buttler is 34.53

Think Root will need to score 3 x 💯 minimum out here , unless they bowl us out for < 300 each time.

Yeap it wasn't a great season with the bat for so many test hopefuls. In Maddinson's defence, Harris and Pucovski dominated the first two shield matches, and one game got washed out, leaving only 5 matches for him to make meaningful runs.

As for Patterson, NSW had some pretty bad days with the bat. Team totals of 32, 64, 143, 165, 175, 194 and 213 in completed innings (plus a couple of incomplete team innings that didnt get very far) showed a real lack of runs from anybody in NSW. And as you mention above, Abbott rescued some of their 'better' innings too.

Doran and Hunt both got better and better as the season went on, but at 24 years of age, just let them have another full shield season.

I remember Doran being dubbed the "next big thing" 6 or 7 years ago so would be good if he can back up this year.

Was he keeping full time last season ?

Hopefully we get a number of players scoring a heap of runs in the early Shield games.

And I hope we don't take too big of a Squad to the World Cup where they just sit around doing nothing and miss out on Shield games.

Smith & Warner won't last forever so would be good to see some different players putting their hands up for selection.

Hopefully we can start getting the A tours going again to give them some exposure , have been saying for decades we should be playing a "A" Test against New Zealand Christmas time and New Year's.

Did Jason Sangha do anything in the Shield last season ?

Need to get these young guys over to England playing county cricket.
