I am a bit pressed for time today. I will get to final results for this comp as soon as I can but probably won't be until late this afternoon. I also have the curveball of the super-over to consider which is one of those scenarios the rules did not contemplate.

Game 48 results (game order).
  • In possibly the best ODI in history.
  • Note that I decided that I should either treat the superover as another over in the match with the appropriate impact on runs, wickets, strike and economy rates; or exclude it altogether. I have decided on the former.

Game 48 results (overall order).
  • Allison S takes the first prize by a staggering 396 points after placing 6th in the final game.
  • Ben V (who won the Soccer World Cup stage comp) comes a deserved second in this comp.
  • The first person to enter this comp (after me) and possibly the most engaged in the comp (@Tails) places 3rd after his 5th place for the game to jump over dual round winner @Brettthejett.
  • In any equally impressive performance @Goodie's Guns takes last place in the game, last place in the round and last place overall to absolutely nail the much sought after (amongst SCS members) money back prize by 347 points.

Aahhhhhh f**k it last game drop one spot and out of the top 3 cash prizes :cry::cry:

At least I won those back to back rounds

Great job and very well done on all the organisation and running of this comp B2D was something different and kept an interest in those World Cup games that would otherwise not give a crap about.

Thanks for all your hard work

Thanks to all those that participated. I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did running it. I think it had the desired effect of keeping people more interested in the Cricket World Cup. I am sure I would have followed it but I was certainly much more engaged than I otherwise would have been. I now know the name of at least some of the Bangladesh and Afghanistan players.

I would be most interested to receive feedback so I can consider that in any comps I might run in the future (cricket or otherwise). I would be most interested in knowing who took the time to work out what players they had if they were watching a game or whether you just looked at the results in the morning to see how you went. I would also be interested if you would do it again if the opportunity presented or whether there were any SCS members who didn't join in but wish they had have.

These are my thoughts.
  • I think the principle of positions worked well but it was more difficult than I realised to actually work out and remember which players you had in a game.
  • I am absolutely staggered by the points spread across the comp so if I was to do it again I would design into it some mechanism that game people a chance to jump up. A double points game at the end of the each round is something that jumps to mind.
  • I am glad I put in the round prizes because at least it gives people a chance at something right to the end. I would probably make those prizes a bit more significant.
  • It was a bit of a downer if you drew a position that didn't actually participate in the game. There may be a better solution there.
  • I would also consider drawing all batsman out rather than just 6 so maybe you get 2 batsmen for each team rather than 1. Maybe they could get bracketed so you get 1 & 11, 2 & 10, etc.
Anyway who knows what the future holds for the 50 over game but I think there is a T20 World Cup next year so I may explore a similar concept then.

Thanks B2D ... A most enjoyable comp.

I found myself cheering on a couple of players before I went to bed, then waking up to see who I drew in the second innings. It did give me more of an interest in many games that I would have normally just glanced at the scores.

I imagine running this took more time and effort than you are letting on. If you did it again, I don’t see the need for changes. It is a random draw, so we are all in the same boat. Yes, drawing a donut was frustrating, but no more than drawing an opening batsman who scored a duck and doesn’t bowl! Seeing Batsmen 7 and Bowler 6 killing it was equally frustrating, but I am sure if they were added in, the donut risk would also increase?

Once again thanks! (y)

Thanks B2D as well ... an absolutely outstanding job running this comp .... can't fathom how much time and effort it probably took you ...

I'll put my hand up and say without this comp the WC would have just passed me by and like a few other sports (Tennis, Darts etc) would have just watched the highlights reel and not paid much attention to it at all ...

- Got no complaints what-so-ever with how it was run and a few fantasy sites could take notice ...
- Would join any other future comps ... T20 WC, BBL, IPL etc ....

- I certainly know a lot more players than before the comp started ... some familiar names were in the IPL that didn't get a gig ... but I now know more about them ... might even help in the BBL next year ...

- Like others I generally made a note of my players, watched the first innings each evening (subject to AFL clashes) and then woke up to see how the others went ...
- Also have Foxtel so could watch the replay the next arvo until the World Series Poker started ...

- Always considered it to be a lot like buying a lottery ticket that you could take an interest in ...
- Was never concerned about winning anything ... don't like betting on sports I watch as it always spoils it for me .... but having no control over selecting player X v Y was something I liked about the whole setup ...

*** Edit: I must admit that I also liked the the general banter and player / team strategies discussions that it facilitated although I think in hindsight I might have derailed this thread a touch too much ... lesson learned for next time :)

Can I make a final impassioned plea to @Brettthejett to provide me with some bank account details so I can send your $40 prize money from this comp.

Similarly @The Last Samurai, I still have a $50 prize for you from the Soccer World Cup comp that I ran last year.

If I don’t hear anything in the next few days then I will donate the $90 to this site.
