Moneyball FC
"Championship or Bust"
Coach: Benno
Captains: Nathan Fyfe, Tom Rockliff
Vice-Captains: Sam Mitchell, Dustin Martin, Matthew Boyd, Matt Priddis
The draft:
Moneyball FC created controversy early in the draft by selecting Sam Mitchell with pick 9 and Dustin Martin with 11, overlooking a number of superstar midfielders....twice! MFC's strategy with having the 2nd last pick, was to target the best available Defender, Forward, then ruck. Then if an absolute steal of a midfielder was available early in the 4th, take him (Nat Fyfe). MFC then continued to target a number of premium backs, then solid ruck and forward options. Wasn't until rounds 8,9, then again in 13, 14 and onwards midfielders began to be targeted. MFC were looking for midfielders ready to take the next step or rebounding from a disappointing year. The rest of the best 22 was filled out by picking best available for the needed position. Bench players were chosen for one or more of the following reasons. Young and possibly break out, get consistent games or be a DPP to add flexibility for cover.
Squad:
Defenders:
Sam Mitchell (D/M), Scott D Thompson, Robert Murphy, Luke Hodge, Jake Carlisle, Brian Lake, Sam Day (F/D), Cameron Guthrie, Matthew Jaensch
Midfielders:
Nat Fyfe, Tom Rockliff, Matthew Boyd, Andrew Swallow, Luke Shuey, Matt Priddis, Daniel Hannebery, David Zaharakis, Jackson Macrae, Jobe Watson
Ruck:
Nic Naitanui, Jarrod Witts
Forwards:
Dustin Martin (M/F), Matthew Pavlich, Steven Motlop, David Hale (R/F), Josh Caddy (M/F), Lindsay Thomas, Nick Riewoldt, James Podsiadly, Jeremy McGovern
