Only one to consider this round for me is Mercedes to Haas. Very tempting to take the guaranteed cash on offer but if the Mercs carry on their Silverstone form (and both cars finish this time) it's a lot of points to give up.

For me if we get to Austria and RB/Ferrari have a clear gap on Mercedes it's a no brainer to take the Haas. It becomes more lineball if they're competitive though, so we'll wait and see until practice.

Love a classic points/cash tradeoff decision
What I didn't consider in the above was the possibility that both Haas cars would run in the top 10 in practice. Very hard to not take the second Haas.

Mercedes > Haas locked in

Thoughts on trades for this round?
A. No trades
B. Out: Red Bull and Russell, In: S Perez and Ferrari
C. Out: Red Bull and Russell, In: Verstappen and Haas
Lineball between B and C. If you're going to captain Max I'd take C, otherwise if not I think the Ferrari breakeven is too hard to ignore

Max on pole
Ferrari 2nd and 3rd
Haas 7th and 9th so they won't score great like last week

I have had the C on Le Clerc most rounds this year and he generally find a way to not to win. It would have been the same this week except I found the cash to bring in Max and plonked the C on him instead.

Max got 2pts more in the end. Pole and Fastest lap helped.

854, held station. Lots of top 10 teams rolling the double haas strategy so safety in numbers I guess.

Same conundrum for me as last week, but replace Mercedes with Red Bull. Will be very hard to turn down another Haas negative breakeven but for the scores that RB put up I'm almost inclined to catch the falling knife

I've prepared some driver and teams break evens going into round 12, which is in two weeks time.

Drivers: Schumacher -34, Magnussen -13, Alonso 12, Norris 19, Albon 22, Stroll 24, Dan Ric 25, Latifi 26, Hamilton 27, Tsunoda 27, Zhou 27, Vettel 32, Ocon 35, Leclerc 47, Bottas 48, Gasly 57, Sainz 76, Russell 117, Perez 118, Max 164

Teams: Haas -48, McLaren 32, Alpine 34, Aston 43, Williams 46, Alfa 52, Alpha 56, Mercedes 93, Ferrari 96, Red Bull 177

Trades:
Haas will add another $1M next round for sure, and with Red Bull unable to increase in value, the teams are unlikely to change. Sainz's BE is still OK, but Schumacher will add $0.7M next round at least. But for the moment, I might just save trades.

Out:
In:

Max (C), Leclerc, Sainz, Hamilton
Ferrari, Ferrari, Haas, Haas

And with that, we are halfway through the season. Time for a mid-season review.

Starting Team:
Max, Leclerc, Sainz, Magnussen
Ferrari, Ferrari, Alpine, Haas

Current Affordable Team (if I wasn't just loading up on Haas for $$$):
Max, Leclerc, Perez, Sainz,
Red Bull, Red Bull, Ferrari, Williams

Best Round Result:
5th in round 6

Best Overall Ranking:
3rd (current)

Best Trade:
Easy to choose Red Bull to Haas last round (only 50 points less and moved $4.5M closer to the top team), but Alonso to Hamilton a couple of rounds ago worked really well. Lots of points, will likely be worth more than Perez soon and can stay in my team for at least one more round.

Worst Trade:
Missed out on Bottas and had to trade in Zhou in round 5. Traded him out two races later for $0.6M less than I traded him in for.

Rule Change You Would Like to See in the Game:
Starting grid is determined before any penalties. So if a driver qualifies 15th, but then goes to the back for a new part penalty, they don't start getting overtaking points until they get back to 15th.

Great idea! Your rule change is logical but I don't agree with it purely because I like to make use of it sometimes 😂

Starting Team:
Max, Leclerc, Sainz, Bottas
Ferrari, Ferrari, Alfa, Alfa

Current Affordable Team (if I wasn't just loading up on Haas for $$$):
Max, Leclerc, Perez, Sainz,
Red Bull, Ferrari, Ferrari, Williams

Best Round Result:
17th in round 6

Best Overall Ranking:
1st (current)

Best Trade:
Heading into Rd 5 (Miami):
Schumacher/Sainz/Ferrari
to
Albon/Verstappen/Williams
I wanted to go against the grain a bit as Verstappen was coming off the back of a win in Imola but a lot of the top teams were still rolling with Leclerc C. So I brought Max in and made him captain, who then went on a tear winning 4 of the next 5 races (including 2 where Leclerc DNFed). To facilitate this, I really couldn't afford much else but Albon and Williams, but I got a massive slice of luck when Albon made up 8 or 9 places in Miami by himself, with Latifi throwing in a few extra to boost the Williams score.

Worst Trade:
Without wanting to sound arrogant, I've been really fortunate that I haven't yet had a trade that was a disaster. I have had a few trades that haven't achieved much (bringing Schumacher and Haas in for Imola for them to achieve 4 and 14 respectively), but nothing in the way of bringing in a high profile driver/team only for them to DNF. Really this has been the story of my season so far - just massive slices of luck every time there's been a lineball call to make (see above with Verstappen C during Leclerc DNFs). It's a very long season, and we're only halfway, so I keep telling myself my crap weeks are still to come 😂

Rule Change You Would Like to See in the Game:
Unlike AFL Supercoach, with only 8 spots to fill, and only a handful of "fantasy-relevant" drivers and teams at any one time, the opportunity to differentiate is limited and this makes it hard to try something different in the hope of making up ground.
The official F1 fantasy game has many flaws, but I really like how the weekly Turbo Driver cannot be a driver above a certain value. If Sportsdeck implemented something similar it would force players to trade and differentiate around a Norris/Alonso type driver. I also like how similar to Fantasy Premier League, they make use of a Mega Driver (which is a triple-points joker that can be played on any driver, but only twice in a season).

Ferrari's Carlos Sainz will have a grid penalty at the French Grand Prix for using too many engine parts.

For now, he has only a 10-place penalty after using a third electronics control unit, one more than permitted.
But following his engine fire in the Austrian Grand Prix, Ferrari are expected to take further parts later this weekend, sending the Spaniard to the back of the grid.

Would love to understand why teams feel the need to spread the announcement over the weekend. It seems obvious they are going to take multiple parts at once, why not just call it in one hit?

I agonised over this one but elected to not bring in the RB. Double haas stays for this round. A bit of upside with the kmag back of grid start - let's hope he doesn't dnf!
