I think I prefer it. Hard to say with the restrictions how it would work again in a normal year, timing wise I think this is a better timeslot for ratings, gives a better spectacle for entertainment acts etc. Lets you either do something else in the day or have pre-match celebrations. I expect they will say it is a big success and we get it again next year anyway.
The game itself lost nothing being at night (which I thought it might).
Pre game was lack lustre but that is not unusual.
Half time was great.
Biggest issue is the long wait for the game even though I think in a normal situation people would find ways to fill in the day and would get used to it. I suspect other “traditions” would emerge.
Would love to see it at the G and a normal Melbourne Saturday build up.
I reckon ultimately a twilight game would make more sense.
I actually wouldn’t be against alternating the game between day and night each year. The purists get their fill every other year as do the progressives.
One thing is not having to deal with the sun in the eyes. Subi was a horrible ground near the end of the day for footy. Sometimes as a spectator you could hardly see the game.
