MELBOURNE swingman Tom McDonald has been taken for scans on his troublesome foot after failing to get through training.
McDonald pulled up sore after the Demons’ thrashing of Carlton and looked in obvious discomfort during this morning’s session.
McDonald was ruled out for two months in March with a toe injury and has been in red-hot form since his return in Round 6, kicking 13 goals in the past four games.
Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin said there was no cause for panic, but admitted he was concerned.
“Of course it’s worrying because you’ve got a player that’s in really good form who hasn’t trained,” Goodwin said.
“But at the same time, as it stands now, he’s confident that with a couple more days and training on Saturday that he’ll be right to go.
“It was more precautionary to take him off the track. We’re pretty confident, and we’ve got some training ahead, that he’ll be right to play.
“We certainly won’t be taking a risk with Tom. He’s working his way back, we’re monitoring his loads, and he was a bit sore still from the game on the weekend.
“But in saying that we’re comfortable that it might settle down as well.
“We will just wait and see.”
McDonald falls out of contract at season's end.
The Demons play Adelaide in Alice Springs on Sunday.
