Double blow for Tigers' running brigade

RICHMOND has suffered a huge blow with premiership duo Dion Prestia and Bachar Houli set to be out until after the bye as they deal with calf and groin injuries respectively.

Prestia has not played since the round seven win against Fremantle while Houli, 30, suffered a groin strain in last Saturday's victory over St Kilda.

"Bachar felt a little bit of a pop in his groin after a long kick to Dan Butler," Tigers physical performance manager Peter Burge told richmondfc.com.au.

"We tried some things to get him back out there, but he wasn't right. So it's probably going to be a medium-term injury.

"It's disappointing but we'll start his rehab phase this week and get him up and running and fit for post-bye."

Richmond, 8-2, face Essendon, Port Adelaide and Geelong in the lead-up to its week off.

Prestia, 25, has suffered a setback after the club initially hoped he would be out for a short period, as coach Damien Hardwick said almost three weeks ago.

"He started running a week and a half ago and did a good week of conditioning last week. He's just at that point now where we can't quite progress back into skills," Burge said.

"We're in a bit of a holding pattern with him. We want to make sure we get it right so we'll get a little bit of a short preparation in and then we'll resume skills, hopefully in the next couple of weeks.

"But it's probably more a medium-term injury than a short-term injury now.

"We've had to revise our timeline a bit, but given Dion's pre-season and some of the interruptions he's had, we want to make absolutely sure he's right for the second half of the year so we are being cautious."

Forward Jack Riewoldt is looking good to return against Essendon on Saturday night after being concussed against the Saints, with Thursday's training session to prove critical.

"He's feeling good today and he's a probable for this week. He'll train tomorrow, train Thursday, and really he's just got to tick a few little boxes with the doc in terms of concussion testing, which we expect will go well," Burge said.

Defender Dylan Grimes will return from back soreness if he trains fully this week while Jason Castagna is "50-50" as he recovers from a hyperextended knee.

Young gun Daniel Rioli will progress to a full VFL game this Sunday against Collingwood at Victoria Park after playing three quarters in the win over Coburg as he recovers from a broken left foot suffered in last year's decider.

Richmond is hopeful Anthony Miles (back) and Shai Bolton (quad corkie) return for the VFL side this weekend.

Just on Ryder

he actually has a daily routine he is doing that "frees" up his Achilles.

and then went on to say resting it is a worse option , I actually think he will keep playing unless it gets to the point they need to operate on it.

We have seen how Marc Murphy and Harry Taylor foot issues linger....
It is not an easy area to get by on.
he mentioned the name of the injury but I can't spell it

can run for a few days and everything is OK then the pain flares up again.

wonder if his shenagigans in New York are related to it ?

Plantar Fasciitis. I have this injury, been 10 weeks and still have soreness. Old days method of tearing it completely and having surgery is probably the best, Selwood did this a few years back.

It is an overuse issue, partly can be impacted by achilles tightness/weakness. Relates to tendon under foot, with no nerve in the area blood flow is limited and when you stand on your feet, you reduce blood circulation.

My issue is after travelling for 6 weeks o***hore and not running, the achilles weakness too much and if you go to hard to early building fitness it can tear. Often you don't realise it has happened and you wake up in night in pain and cannot stand on it.

There are two injuries that I never trust clubs prognoses on.
Plantar Fascia and Quads. Clubs always say 2 weeks at the start, and it ALWAYS turns into 6 or 8 or more. Anyone remember Beams missing most of the season with a quad? He was listed as "2 weeks" for nearly that whole time. If your player gets that diagnosis, trade! No matter what the club says.

I’ve put this into practice for this year, one of my non-negotiables.

This MRP system is a joke, you can’t say menegola tried to “free himself” he shoved Rowe’s head into the ground, kneeled on him and then kicked him in the head. This was worse than the Sicily incident...
They are consistently inconsistent. Can't even be bothered getting upset anymore. They treat supporters like idiots.
They seem to have completely made up their interpretation of the Rioli incident to achieve the outcome they were aiming for.

If you need to make up what happened to fit the desired outcome within the system, it means you've got the system wrong.

I just saw the incident (https://twitter.com/joncatania6/status/1000320455473938432)

Absolutely ridiculous.

Let's suspend NN who was actually trying to win the ball but ignore someone clearly trying to hurt the opposition in a non-footy incident.

remember that day well , was living in Sydney that day.

Went to the Internet Cafe to confirm he was in , all good so traded him in.

Walked to the pub and missed the start by 2 minutes and found out he was a late late out

don't deliberately touch a umpire , or you will be suspended

In defence of Menegola, he was trying to free his arm to get back in the action but Rowe was holding it in against his body. He had to push off of something to get free and the only thing to push off of was his head. That last nudge with the foot was unnecessary though.

I would like to add a third, OP/groin soreness. There was some intel on this site re Josh Kelly that it was worse than a 2 week rest, turned into 6.

I think consistently inconsistent sums it up which makes it very difficult to believe in the process as a whole.

I didn’t like Dylan Buckley throwing his head back and cracking Guelfi in the chin. Hard to see him get rubbed out for the low impact but had things been slightly different, he could’ve easily broken a nose or even cheek bone if he got him flush. I was happy to see BJ fly the flag after that. No place in the game for that crap.

I also didn't like that move by Dylan Buckley, That was a flog act which as you said has no place in the game. I personally think it should have been more than a $1,500 fine.
