Think he passed the concussion test, but they just didn't risk him. Should be fine for Round 1.
Cheers mate. Wonder if the VFL boys have a hitout on the weekend..?? Wonder if he'd play in that for some minutes before round 1. Still a decent break until Easter Monday

Probably take 5-6 weeks to recover from the broken jaw anyway. Not really a punishment.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-03-15/fractured-cheekbone-hits-young-lion-rhys-mathieson-for-six

BRISBANE Lion Rhys Mathieson will miss up to six weeks after having surgery on his fractured face on Monday night.

Mathieson received the injury following a high bump from Jeremy Cameron that cost the GWS forward a four-game suspension after he pleaded guilty to rough conduct at the Tribunal on Tuesday afternoon.

Lions' head of physiotherapy Shane Lemcke told the club's website Mathieson had two fractures – one to his cheekbone and one to the bone below it - to the right side of his face.

He said the teenager would miss four to six weeks.

Second-year forward Jaden McGrath was injured in the same NAB Challenge match on Sunday, but was cleared of a fracture in his left shoulder.

"He injured his left centre clavicular joint," Lemcke said.

"Fortunately he didn't fracture his clavicle but he’s still going to be out for a couple of weeks."

Forward Josh Green (foot) and captain Tom Rockliff (hamstring) will rejoin the main playing group on Thursday when the Lions return from a three-day break.

Rockliff has declared himself a certainty for round one.

Jason Ashby will miss two months with a knee injury

RELATED

It's not panic stations at Essendon: McKenna
ESSENDON youngster Jason Ashby has dislocated his kneecap and is facing up to two months on the sidelines.

While Ashby, 21, is on the fringe of the Bombers’ best 22, the injury is a further blow to the club's already depleted squad.

The latest setback happened in a VFL practice match at the weekend.

It followed a minor ankle injury Ashby sustained in the Bombers’ first NAB Challenge game against Carlton.

"Jason went down with a knee problem," Essendon's high performance manager Justin Crow said.

"We had that scanned and it turns out he had a small patella dislocation, or kneecap dislocation.

"We're looking at a couple of months out with that but sometimes players do a little bit better so there is a bit of hope there for Jase."

The club also confirmed Jayden Laverde is still battling an ankle injury, with his recovery slower than expected.

Draftee Darcy Parish and top-up recruit Ryan Crowley are expected to join in training this week.

Essendon faces Gold Coast at Metricon Stadium in round one.

Looks like Petracca and Trengrove provide us with some early downgrade options.

RICHMOND has suffered a hefty blow on the eve of the 2016 season, with gun recruit Chris Yarran set to be sidelined for six weeks due to a foot injury.

Yarran, who had been racing to be fit for the season-opener against his former club Carlton, will be sent for surgery to fix plantar fascia tissue in his left foot.

Dunno about this gun recruit Yarran. Does Chris Yarran have a brother playing now or something??

The AFL have updated the injury lists

A couple of interesting ones for my current midfield with Macaffer and Parish on the list with calf and hammy complaints respectively.

Seems Ablett is over his ego problem now the real games are starting....

Not one to spread rumours but a reputable poster on Richmond BigFooty board has said Deledio has done his quad/hammy this morning in a kicking drill and early prognosis is 4 weeks. If that's the case, massive news. Would surely open the door for one of Richmond's rookie priced players to get a game given their injuries atm.

+1 from a different source, was in for scans yesterday I believe. Not sure on the outcome, just heard he was getting something checked out.
