Hahah yeah I remember watching Eddy the Eagle, classic stuff, think he was meant to be a joke but don't think Raygun was, she actually beat 13 other people to be there.

I'll have to check this out when I get time. If she was the best, it would be interesting to see some of the others.

Aussies still third on the medal tally, equal number of golds as Japan. Today will be all about cheering on "anyone but Japan" in the couple of events they are a chance (wrestling mainly, cycling potentially). Top spot is also far closer than I expected, 1 gold difference between China and USA.

Aussie team had done fantastically well, can't help wondering what the medal tally would've looked like if Russia didn't have to start a war with their next door neighbours.

With the Netherlands taking two gold today to go to a record 15 (!) for them, GB are now 7th on the medal tally.

Remarkably, they have won so many silver and bronze that the Americans would have them in third!

Speaking of the Americans, they need two gold to clear China for first place, and have four chances to do it:
* Volleyball - currently down 2-0, looks very unlikely
* Wrestling - 50/50 up against Japan which hurts us, but I think third is gone for us anyway
* Omnium - there's an American a long way out in front with one race to go, but you never know...
* Basketball - yeah, pencil this one in

America just won the Omnium. Only need the one more gold and unless France pull off a massive upset, they’ll win the women’s basketball.

Thanks for posting. Rachael Dratch excellent in these sorts of bits on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver and Billy on the Street, etc.

Arisa Trew (skateboarder) did get a mention on Last Week Tonight with John Oliver.

I hope Arisa like totally enjoys her Duck when her Parents like get it for her, just hope the Duck doesn't like get run over at the Skatepark while it's like waddling around the joint.

Interesting Australian Olympics Stats.

1956 games Melbourne.
323 athletes attended. Representing 17 sports winning 35 medals.

2000 games Sydney.
632 athletes attended. Representing 28 sports winning 58 medals.

2024 games Paris.
469 athletes attended. Representing 33 sports winning 63 medals.

The media always compare the current games medal tally with previous games conveniently forgetting that there were a lot less Aussie athletes and fewer sports & events within each sport. Suits the narrative of this being “our most successful games ever “
