He's gone to a better place. :) Welcome Maxy.

Jeff Kennett has emailed Hawks members.

Finishes with: "We may be surprised at some of the (trade/draft) decisions made but be assured they will be made after careful consideration of the club's future needs by those we charge to make such decisions."

A backup ruck traded for a younger ruck, losing a player to free agency and some draft pick changes? Nothing too surprising.

I'm actually reasonably happy with the quiet trade period, despite the need for the Hawks to "rebuild". The best part to me was Wingard, O'Meara and Breust all saying they want to stay at the Hawks rather than be traded to a club where they are more likely to play finals in the short term. The Hawks have quite a few quality younger players on their list already - I'd rather have these experienced players around while the club gets more games into this younger group, than adding another speculative late first round pick.

ESSENDON defender Martin Gleeson has been delisted after not being offered a new contract for 2022.
The 27-year-old, who was taken with pick No.53 in the 2012 NAB AFL Draft, played 97 games for the Bombers.
He managed only six games this year, including the elimination final loss to the Western Bulldogs.
THAT'S A WRAP Who's in, who's out after the Trade Period
General manager of football Josh Mahoney said Gleeson was a fan favourite and devoted clubman.

"He has been such a respected, dependable person for us over a number of years and it's tough saying goodbye to someone as popular as he is," he said.
"Marty should be proud of his efforts, in particular his resilience to overcome a significant ankle injury and the way he has helped shape the culture of our club.
"We wish him all the best for his future and he will forever be an Essendon person."

Gleeson played 69 games in his first four years at the Dons before a serious ankle injury in a pre-season game.
He spent the entire 2018 season on the sidelines, before returning in round 15 of 2019.

Wow ... can't recall us ever delisting a first round pick before :(
One of the biggest stuff up's in our clubs drafting for a long long time.

He was never going to become a number one key forward, JK & Darling where locks each week, Allen looked a future star and even Waterman overtook him, not mention the resting ruck each week also playing forward. Meant Brander was always going to struggle for games as he's a little too small to play Key Forward and not a good overhead mark.

Club should have used pick 13 in that draft on Allen like we had intended too heading into that draft, then we could have taken Tim Kelly at pick 21 (Which was the original plan) and saved ourselves trading more 1st & 2nd round picks away in trading for TK.

Combine that with unexpectedly losing Dan Venables (another 1st round pick) and our list is in a bit of trouble with the complete lack of 1st round picks over the last several years.
