If he plays R1, it would mean he's done enough in JLT to go ahead of McKernan, so I think he'll get a fair crack to prove himself - doubt Woosha would abandon that 2 ruck strategy straight away if he starts off with it. He'd be better than any of the fwd rookie options, a 60-65 would be good enough from him.
So what if he gets dropped in the first 2-3 rounds? What are you gonna do then

Even if he averages 55 and plays the first 7-8 games I'd call that a successful pick.
Hard to quantify ... to me a 55 ave won't cut it in the ruck from any player .... any other line would be ok'ish but not that one ..

A 55 average is only satisfactory this year, and in the rucks. Making 50-100k while allowing me to speculate on Gawn/R2 is enough. I liked Goldy as a pick, now that I think about it... Goldstein best case is probably s 108 average, if Gawn drop by 5 to 122, then you're still losing 14 points a round which equates to over 300 points over a season. That's far more then I'd be willing to give up for an additional 150k from the start.

Certainly does open up a lot more possibilities that is for sure , I think I would trust Clarke stringing more games together Fort.

I need to find just one $ 300 - $ 350k player to get my preferred structure.
If you are referring to a ruckman, then Longer is a safe bet.

Would curse Woosha as a terrible coach for not backing in preseason plans (if two rucks are chosen as an initial strategy) and then make two correction trades. That's probably the ultimate risk so we'd need a strong indication of Essendon's ruck strategy in the preseason before committing to the ZClarke R2 route. Fort playing in R1 or being just on the cusp would provide some comfort too.

Woosha's also not the type to make immediate changes to preseason plans if they don't work so if the two rucks strategy is chosen as the go to strategy, I'd be very surprised if he changes that immediately based on one game. Just look how long Stringer played in the midfield last season before he finally was put into the forward line. Ditto re Hooker in defence.

More overall , although I have Longer (R3) in my initial planning team though.

Need the cricket to finish before my brain can switch to full football mode.

Cheers

He averaged 127 in the WAFL last year. 137 in the last 11. He was always carrying an injury at Freo but somehow Scabiaco made him better!

I'm so disappointed with my club right now. :poop:
Does anyone want to lend me their club for a few years.
Be very careful with what you wish for Freo.

50 long years following St Kilda hasn't exactly been a walk in the park.

I would, but sorry the last person I leant Essendon to broke it! And I can’t risk that again! It is taking a long time to get it back working and I need to keep a close guard.

Well hopefully Ross Lying will be gone soon Freo. I think however it has happened there seems to be a lot of division down there and a clean start is required. Maybe Suma will get his chance to coach a WA based AFL side. If they move Lying on and he doesn't get the gig he will never coach AFL. Until second half of 2017 and last year when Lying was just forced to play the youngsters I think the recruiting and playing (or non playing) of young players was a real problem. Lloyd moving on was no great loss. But right coach and a bit of positive momentum under Bell and could turn things around quite quickly. Just my 2c worth.
Early days but as you can tell from the avatar I'm already a big fan of Peter Bell.

I'll be barracking for North Melbourne in round 1. 3 months ago I would have picked Freo at home but the preseason has been very disheartening. Maybe Cockburn has a curse. Closer to the fumes from the industrial area?

I don't know how he goes as a coach but I don't think he presents well enough to get the top job.
Yes he does come across sometimes like he is one Tim Tam short of a pack but I have heard he actually does know his stuff.

Depending on what we see in the preseason, I’d be more inclined to punt on Longer or Naismith at R2 with a bit of cash ITB, to go to mummy if required. It’s not an optimal set up but gives a bit of flexibility to see what’s up with Gawn or whichever other likely R2 we have.
I've removed Naismith as an option even he gets picked rnd 1 because I cant' see anything in his history to suggest he wil get past the $300k mark. Longer is still a "possible" for me. Although not ideal he has shown that he can post some 100's and make some money.

Training reports from saints fans have Longer struggling in match sims at training. You can probably cut him from your list.

Struggling as in injury or struggling as in a weak player.
Can you show the link please, if you know it.
