Yeah pretty much my thinking too, I don't completely dislike the pick at all considering his price. It's just something to point out with a player who is currently playing pretty loose down back and getting cheapies, who is also a very good one on one defender and who isn't guaranteed to be used as an outlet moving forward. He is on the surface very similar to prime Hurley at the moment and we saw Hurley's role change. If his role stays the same I think he will go 95+, but with some inconsistency.

Yeah definitely something to be worried about re Daniel versus the others. I swear I saw some Brisbane players following him around the week he scored 20, but this was never mentioned. I think why he might be tagged could be that he wins a fair bit of his own ball versus Short and gets a lot more disposals versus Rich. However, despite being a better short kick than those two he is nowhere near as damaging a long kick, so it's not totally explainable.
Be interesting to see how many of Rich & Short's kicks actually hit a team mate or are they predominantly long to a contest or space ?

Certainly Short is the better run & carry player out of all 3 though.

On face value would think Daniel is a lot more accurate and damaging by foot even if he is only gaining 25-35 metres , hence why I can see him getting tagged.

Give him time and space his vision is incredible and kicking skills normally elite
Both have high DE, Short 85pct vs Daniel 91pct.

The difference being Short kicks 90pct of the time and Daniel probably 50pct.

Think Short would ave 10m or more extra per kick. Think he is an awesome kick. Daniel does the more 1-2 and runs the ball at the same time, maybe why he gets tagged.

If I was going overall, I would be tempted by both. Challenge is we are already long premium defenders and waitinfg ro see if whitfield is going to go 120 again.

Christian Salem currently ranked 4th in DEF for total points behind only Stewart, Mills and Lloyd. Currently in 2% of teams.

At $542k, he's not really relevant to discussion this week but he's having a cracking season so far. Probably reinforces the fact that there are more than six avenues to success down back this year.

Does Crisp keep playing through the mids in his current role (ie not a defensive mid as previously)? Seems to have had a role change over the last 3-4 rounds and is scoring well. Priced at $500K, low of 84 and high of 122 and has 4x100 (3 in the last 4 rounds), has played full seasons since 2015 and a POD pick at 3.2%. I probably can’t afford to get Lloyd/ Salem to finish off with 17 trades left and poor cash gen. Current DEF: Mills, Short, Ridley, Stewart, Highmore, Chapman, Murray and Mansell. Laird is in my mids currently but plan is to have him finish as a defender.

This thread has gone a bit dark... time to bring it back to the light.

I went cheap on D5 and D6 upgrades and have May and Moore there currently. Which is paying off pretty well because they are hitting 90-100 while the DEF rookies stink it up.

Along comes Whitfield however, looking the absolute goods at around $500k post bye. Do I sideways to him, or run with 7 defenders, pushing one to the bench?
Or skip?

Throw Laird to the mids?

Or slingshot him.

Ridley is looking shaky as a Prem since his head knock! Redman stealing his kick ins, he is doing a few more lock down roles of late! (From comments I’ve read on the weekly in game discussions)
ave last 4 @ 95 pts, 5 @ 82 pts which includes his injury game!
looking like a sub 80 game v WCE tonight.
serious consideration for a trade (if I can find 1) after the byes?
or should I just eat a table spoon of concrete and toughen up! ride this bad patch out?

Could be the only one to make keeping Laird in the middle work, maybe.
