Bit of a play around with the team over lunchtime:

Khawaja, Lynn, Banton, Hales, Peirson (Green, MCG)
Philippe (Neilson)
Stoinis, Curran, Cutting, Qais, Morris (Ellis, Conway)

Bit of an all in on Stoinis as a SGR, Qais also a SGR and a few others look a bit iffy to even be in Australia!

Was just reading an article suggesting Inglis is going to keep for the Scorchers.

Depending on who they sign as IRP for Behrendorff & Tye (assuming the rules are still the same as before) , and given they signed Jordan as their second OS player they may actually go for another batsmen eg Bosisto , Calder , David (not 100% on whether he is classified as OS player or not.

So all things being equal :-

Bancroft
Livingstone
Marsh - back 24th ???
Patterson - injury cloud
Turner
Inglis (WK)

+ Agar , Fawad , Jordan , Kelly/Paris , Richardson

Others:

Green
Hardie
Hobson
Paris/Kelly
Whiteman
+ 2 replacements

hoping Green does not just play until Marsh is available

if Marsh & Turner can't bowl they may also go 6 specialist Bowlers (or trust Livingstone if they need to)

all conjecture for a few weeks , and just my opinions and thoughts

It’s with Carey on the bench and Sutherland and Green as the 42k rookies. One of Wes Agar/Paris also on the bench.

My 9-11 are Laughlin, Henriques and Steketee who I am really only getting because of the DGR. Had Hales over Steketee previously
How confident are you that both Laughlin & Steketee even play let alone both games ?

wow

been trying to figure out how to get Stoinis in and look at you go ?

Doesn't look to bad all especially if that bench is all named.

Yeah, that was an interesting comment. Suggests they might pull players out of the BBL as concussion subs if necessary. Hopefully they'd pick someone like Pucovski who isn't playing it rather than, for argument's sake, Finch.
Just having another read , Bancroft looks like he is the standby batsmen still for Perth.

Talk if they need a second spinner for Sydney (Agar , Holland , Swepson) they will need a all-rounder (with Marsh doubtful , that leaves Stoinis)

and here I was thinking you would be unveiling your 2 players per team side this season.

So if I understand this correctly if you are playing the bench loops you already have a Striker on your bat bench and bowl bench.

Just curious
I haven’t perfected it yet ... but you know me too well. My skeleton team is two players per team, and I have made 3 changes to get to 9 DGW players. I usually try and stay within 3 trades of returning two players per team, but that will changed when I get sucked into the adrenaline of last minute changes!!

I don’t have a Striker bowler at present as I am not expecting to have to take Green’s score. I have Neser in bats ready to swing down if needed, and I would need to bring in another Striker for the bowler I would have fielded instead of Green. I have Carey in keeper position ready to swing with Handscomb if required or I would need to switch Handscomb to another Striker if he is not needed for keeper so I can take Marsh’s score.

As it stands I have 2 Strikers, but if my bench all perform really well, it could force me to have as many as 5 Strikers!! I would prefer not to have 5 so I will probably set high expectations to loop more than one bench player, say 75+?

75+ from a SWG player , would take it in a heartbeat , not too many averaging that.

Neser is interesting whether he stays with the Test Squad or is released , suspect if they want Agar (@ Stoinis by default) for Sydney Neser is released.

Hopefully they announce something during the Boxing Day Test & announce the ODI Squad as well.

I wonder how the 2 player per team would work including all the OS players , no keeper though.

I might trial it myself for the IPL.

I think I have settled (so far) on 9 x DWG's and building from there.

Thanks

Yes I think Carey is the key to that strategy. Green and Agar types may not be that valuable on a DGR or even play both games. Carey however is a good DGR starter.

That's why I think what's the difference between one less DGR in R1 (say Jordan) if it gets you one extra in R3. By "extra" I mean an actually quality DGR starter not a bench cheapie or mid-priced punt.

I'd have to think on that more.
I see your point now.

Wondering if you have both Abbott and Curran as Sixers? If I could fit in Jordan instead of a Steketee or Henriques I would but cash wise it’d have to be instead of Sams, Khawaja or Abbott.

I think Green and W.Agar are some of the better rookies this season so if I run one of them instead of a Fawad Ahmed or similar type during their DGW, I think it won’t be too bad

I'm tinkering around but yes Jordan would have to be a sacrifice of a ~$170k DGW player. Probably a heat or thunder player as the Sixers have that second DGR. Someone who you think could drop some cash straight up with two poor games. But how to predict that? I need to look closer at the match ups and try to predict winners like we do when the finals start and you are trying to work out which type of player from which side you want.

I think the trick is to count your top line DGRs across the first 3 rounds rather than just a straight DGR count.

It's to search out that reliable Andre Russell type SGR starter with a DGR upcoming. Maybe I am over-estimating Jordan's scoring.

If Green isn't able to bowl he'll basically be a Western Australian Milenko! I wouldn't put too much faith in him.

I have seen chatter that Pattinson plays the second game. I think if he’s serious about the tests he wouldn’t play in the BBL but I’ll have to rely on the news closer to the first game

Steketee in strong domestic form and Laughlin definitely plays given the Heat don’t have a good death bowler. I guess I’ll hope Lalor misses out if Pattinson plays.

I actually think Pattinson would likely play both games in round 1, if you think about it, the Perth test 12th-16th. He will not play, I’d expect him to be released from the squad to play, he’ll have ample time to get up there for the 17th then the next game on the 20th should really interfere with his preparations for the test on the 26th given, again, he will not play

Given this, I’m thinking heats best 11 might look like this
  1. Tom Banton
  2. Max Bryant
  3. Chris Lynn
  4. Matt Renshaw/Sam Heazlett
  5. James Peirson
  6. Ben Cutting
  7. James Pattinson
  8. Mark Steketee
  9. Mitch Swepson
  10. Zahir Khan
  11. Ben Laughlin
