sorry for the delay have been super busy Here are the final 3 interviews from the winners, hopefully you enjoyed them
BBL06 winner Kyle Robson
1. What is your team name and where can people follow you if you have twitter?
Team name is still up in the air. The year I won I was yearoftheunderdog but it didn’t really seem appropriate to use again the following year. Last year I was Ish-Sodhistream. If you have any puntastic suggestions hit me up on twitter @poster101
2. What was the keys to your success and any advice to new players?
If you want to be competitive you have to have a plan to navigate the Double Game Weeks (DGWS) and bye periods. A team with guns and rookies from all the teams might look pretty but it won’t get you the chocolates. I’m looking at starting about 9 Heat/Scorchers players, a couple of Strikers and Hurricanes, and 1 or 2 of the best rookies from the other squads.
3. Who is the must have player and why?
I’m a big fan of David Willey, very reliable and has the DGW up first. Scorchers have lost some batting depth since last year and there is a strong chance he could open as well as roll the arm over for a couple.
4. Will you have more bowlers or batsmen in your side considering the all-rounder changes?
Not something I am as concerned about. Will likely have a couple specialist in each position but there is a plethora of decent dual players so I don’t think it will be too much of an issue. Batsmen can go the largest with the scoring changes, but can also just as likely get a donut if they miss out on runs. As a result I don’t think we will see too much difference in the averages of the top batsman and bowlers by the end of the year.
5. Two part question, will you have D’Arcy Short in your starting team and is James Pattinson a must have at 62k with a double game in week one?
It would take a big set of kahuna’s to fade D’arcy Short especially with his DGW so early in the piece. Happy to go with the masses on that one. There is an argument for not starting with him, but he will be a must by round 3 and his price won’t change too much by that point, so I’m happy for him to be one of my 2 on field non dgw players from round 1. I’m also all in on James Pattinson, recent form with both bat and ball, albeit in limited overs with the ball, suggests he is an absolute steal for that price. Injury is always a concern but should he stay healthy id say he will be one of the Heat players you will be happy to bench over their bye rounds in 2 & 3 and hold until the next Heat DGW if not longer.
6. Who is someone you think will be a smoky this year?
It’s all about opportunity in BBL. So if guys like Jack Edwards, Matt Short and Daniel Sams get a chance with Bat and Ball then they will make a lot of money very quickly. There are also a number of veterans in decent form who probably won’t be too popular to start. Tom Cooper is one of these guys. He has been killing it with the Bat for South Australia in recent times, and in the latest BBL seasons he has been trusted with a few overs in the power play.
7. Making a big call, if you don’t start with…… You won’t win this year?
Chris Lynn. Boring but I just can’t see him not scoring runs at the Gabba first up.
8. Heat & Scorchers have a double game week one How many are you looking at starting with?
Looking at 9 + and refining a short list from Heazlett, Lynn, Tye, Willey, McCullum, Pattinson, Coulter-Nile, Agar, Bryant, Doggett and Green depending on final teams.
9. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me three times, shame on both of us… which player is on the never again list for BBL08?
Tough call Hilton Cartwright is right up there after junking it up on my bench for most of last season, however I’m going to say Gurinda Sandhu. Good to see him again getting hyped up in the preseason after his numbers for Tasmania recently. But once a trap always a trap.
10. Which two big bash sides face off in the Grand final?
Tough one. Stars on paper but we say that every year. Despite being a Sixers fan, I’d like to see a Heat and Renegades final. We all love to see runs in the BBL, and both teams boast a destructive top order.
