2016 SCS PREMIER LEAGUE ODDS
$4.00 Eat 'Em Alive (johno)
GTC go into the season as deserving favorites on the back of an outstanding record. Finishing in the top 1000 from 2011-2014, Coach John had a rare poor season in 2015 finishing 10,068. This saw the club being relegated from the Champions League for the 2016 season. However, this is surely only likely to motivate Coach John and his management team, and after two years’ worth of experience competing in the top SCS league, expect GTC to be there at the business end of the Premier League season. Definitely the team to beat.
$5.50 FLYING HORSES (THCLT)
Forget prior SC history for a moment. Coach Thanh has only been in the Supercoach caper for three years, but he is destined to take the competition by storm sooner rather than later and enters the Premier League for the first time having been in Division 7 in 2015. FLYING HORSES have made a steady improvement each year since their arrival into the competition, finishing just outside the top 1,000 in 2015. A recent promotion to moderator of the SCS website highlights the sheer amount of effort Coach Thanh puts into not only improving his own team, but other teams in the SCS community. There’s no doubt FLYING HORSES are having a big preseason and coach Thanh should be full of confidence following his triumph in the BBL fantasy competition. Don’t let a lack of Premier League experience fool you here.
$7.00 Caleb’s Kings (Erich)
Coming in at third favourite is the experienced Caleb’s Kings. Coach Caleb has a very impressive record over a long period, finishing in the top 4000 on all but one occasion since 2006. Coming off a very good season where the team finished ranked 451, Coach Caleb has the experience to give the Premier League a very good shake. The only big obstacle facing Caleb’s Kings is the lack of Premier League experience (this being their first year in the League). On that note, expect a slow start while Coach Caleb finds his feet before knocking off some big scalps throughout the season.
$7.00 Supercoach Scores (Impromptu)
Since winning the competition in 2011 and stamping his name as one of the great Super coaches, SCS founder Jay has never quite been the same. For the past four seasons, Coach Jay has struggled to live up to his lofty reputation. Supercoach Scores’ strategic genius to win in 2011 is a possible contributing factor to his drop in form, having gone for something too much ‘left-field’ and paying the price for it. However, one thing is for certain and that is you can never write off a champion, and it is why Coach Jay is still one of the favorites to win the Premier League. Winning Supercoach is not a fluke and you get the feeling the mastermind is ready to get back to his best. Write him off at your peril.
$10.00 IDIG SCS (IDIG)
Another team who has been relegated from the Champions League, Coach Hai will be determined to bounce back after a disappointing 2015 by his standards where he finished ranked 5,202. IDIG SCS has shown he has what it takes when he ranked 479 in 2014 and a year challenging the best of the best in the top league is arguably just what Coach Hai needed to be a serious contender for the 2016 Premier League. The club appears to be having another very solid preseason so expect IDIG SCS to be one of the most consistent teams in the league. Offers plenty of great value.
$11.00 Ricky Bobby FC (Ricky Bobby)
Ricky Bobby FC was one of the bolters of 2015, having a great season to finish ranked 736 after ending ranked 31,696 in 2013, demonstrating their swift improvement. After playing in division 5 last year, Coach James now finds himself entrenched in the second most prestigious league in 2016 and in fine form. However, this year will be a big challenge for the newcomers, and a lack of experience against the more qualified coaches is a concern. If Coach James can will his side into the finals, Rocky Bobby FC could do some serious damage. Capable of matching it with the best of the best.
$13.00 Goodie’s Guns (Goodie’s Guns)
One of the more consistent performers in Supercoach, Coach Tim now has the experience in the Premier League to put up a good challenge for the title. Having been ranked from 2,000 to 8,000 for the past three years, Goodie’s Guns will be fighting desperately for a top 1000 finish this year which is a must to win the Premier League. Coach Tim has shown his ability when finishing 2012 ranked 282. There is no doubt Goodie’s Guns are having a big preseason and expect this club to be there or thereabouts this season. Very experienced campaigner.
$13.00 Shaw Bet (Lenny)
Shaw Bet’s best Supercoach performance came in 2012 where the club ended the year ranked 755. Since then, Coach Liam has delivered consistent performances without making serious inroads in the Premier League. However, similar to Goodie’s Guns, Coach Liam now also has the experience in the league take the next step. This team is by no means a Shaw Bet to be there at the business end, but expect reliable scores and a few upsets across the season.
$16.50 Philzsay (Philzsay)
Not many coaches can claim a record as impressive and consistently brilliant as Philzsay’s. From 2006-2011, Coach Phil took his troops to five top 1000 finishes and three top 100 finishes, with a best ranking of 11 in 2007. Since that time though, Philzsay has struggled to maintain his consistency, ending the past four seasons outside the top 1000. Coach Phil has taken some extra time to adapt to the modern game with extra trades, the introduction of the tricky bye rounds and the rolling lockout. However, it is tipped that now the club has spent time getting used to the big changes, they are now ready to get back to their best with a thud. Coming into their second year in the Premier League, watch Philzsay to be one of the big improvers. These are great odds.
$17.00 Year of the Monkey (Beijing_Sting)
Year of the Monkey arrives in the Premier League for the first time having spent two years serving his apprenticeship in Division 2. Coach Miles has enjoyed three very solid years from 2013-2015, ranking 902, 2,093 and 1,219 in those years which has allowed Year of the Monkey to bypass Division 1 straight into elite company. It is hard to see Coach Miles making a big push for the finals with his inexperience, but if he settles quickly there is no reason why he can’t keep his quality form going. Could be the dark horse of the competition.
$17.00 Courtesans (Courtesans)
Coach Keith will probably count himself stiff to be at these odds, but such is the strength of the Premier League. Having burst onto the scene ranking 43 in 2012, Courtesans, whilst consistent, hasn’t cracked the top 1000 since. In saying that, this will be Coach Keith’s third year in the Premier League, and with that comes a wealth of experience that will make any opponent cautions. The club has also become recognised for its creative poetry, allowing Coach Keith to add something extra to the Premier League and showing his skills beyond managing his squad. Expect a consistent effort across the year, but may be overrun by the fresh faces in the league.
$19.50 Brownie’s Bandits (Lost In the Sky)
Needless to say many coaches in the Premier League have a remarkably consistent record, and Brownie’s Bandits is no exception. From 2006-2015, Coach Iain has ranged from a ranking of 1,026 to 5,623, aside from an outlier 2011 season where the club ranked 206. The Achilles heel for Coach Iain has been his inability to crack the top 1000 regularly to really make a name himself. Despite this, Brownie’s Bandits have been rewarded for their durability, rising straight from Division 6 in 2015 to the Premier League. It might take something from left field for Brownie’s Bandits to get the jump on the opposition, and thus it will be interesting to see Coach Ian’s strategy in 2016. Otherwise, expect nothing less than consistent output week in week out.
$22.50 ST JAMES FC (Rockydunlop)
One of the more passionate coaches in the league, Coach Gary is a proud member of ST JAMES FC and always rallying behind his troops. The club had a breakout year in 2010, finishing with a ranking of 144. However Coach Gary’s time in the Premier League hasn’t been so successful and last year ST JAMES FC underperformed, ranking 11,684. Despite this, experience is always a big factor and this is now their third entry in the Premier League, with the SCS administration giving Coach Gary a chance to bounce back. If ST JAMES FC can replicate their form of 2010, they could be a legitimate premiership contender. However question marks remain over the confidence of the squad after a poor showing last season. Could go either way.
$22.50 Lolern Bulldogs (Zim^zuM)
After a stellar 2013 where the Lolern Bulldogs finished the year ranked 676, Coach Mate was correctly rewarded with a promotion into the Premier League. However, in proof of the difficulty in maintaining form in a league surrounded by quality coaches, the club has failed to produce those same heights, not ranking inside the top 5,000 for the past two seasons. This is an especially important year for Coach Mate to show he has what it takes to avoid relegation. In saying this, there is no reason to suggest the club will not return to its best form. As well as ST JAMES FC, it is hard to predict how this team will go.
$25.00 freowho (freowho)
Freowho did not have their best season in 2015 by any means, but this didn’t stop the SCS selection panel from showing faith in Coach Scott and giving him an opportunity in the Premier League. Coach Scott was often seen at local grounds managing his Division 2 side in 2015, and some inconsistent scores saw his team rank 9214. However, freowho have proved they can play some great football, having finished 2014 ranked 653. There is a big likelihood the young freowho line-up will be overwhelmed by the occasion, but expect them to give the season a big crack on the back of a solid preseason.
$26.00 Jibrangers (Bomber)
Put simply, the Jibrangers had a year to forget in 2015. Finishing the year ranked 20,696, Coach Sho failed to string together above par scores and was out of the hunt by halfway through the season. In spite of this, apart from last year the club has enjoyed considerable success, twice reaching the top 1,000. Therefore, SCS administration has awarded Coach Sho with his first crack in the Premier League in the hope they can turn their form around. This is seriously good value but it’s difficult to see the club making an impact. May see patches of good football, but may also be overawed.
$26.00 Moo Moo’s Maulers (Moving Upward)
You have to feel for Coach Damon. He has to juggle managing his side in the Premier League whilst also being the Chief Media Reporter, utilizing his phenomenal writing skills to compile round reviews on different occasions throughout the season. This alone means his value in the Premier League is unquestionable. However, Moo Moo’s Maulers haven’t troubled the scorers on the Supercoach side of the spectrum. In fact, Coach Damon’s Supercoach history is largely unknown, with the only record being from last year where he ranked 16,134. Despite this, Coach Damon finished runner up in the Premier League in 2014 after finishing 8th in the home and away season, showing his class in the big games. The club is one of the most experienced and will fight until the very end of the season.
$28.50 Maso’s Muppets (Maso)
Coming in as the least favourite to win the league, Maso’s Muppets undoubtedly have the itchiest trade finger of any manager to play the game, frequently running out of trades before the season ends. This has impaired Coach Craig’s ability to make inroads, with a best ranking of 7,329 in 2015. However, speculation mounts that the club will become much more composed this year and hold their trades right until the end. Whilst this remains hard to believe, Coach Craig always gives the Premier League a very good crack with some bold moves. Despite entering at such high odds, don’t be surprised if we see a different brand of football from this team in 2016. Don’t take them lightly.
