Dagobah Immortals Press Release

It is with a touch of sadness to announce that Michael Gibbons and Brayden Ham will not be offered contracts for next year.

The Immortals will like to thank Brayden and Michael for the services to the Club and wish them all of the best in their future endeavours.

The Immortals will work with them if they find another home before tonight's deadline, with Manager Philzsay willing to accept a future Rd 8 pick for either player. Failing that both will try their luck in the upcoming SCS Ultimate draft.

The YRA wishes to announce the following players will not be offered new contracts:

Toby Bedford - honestly, has been a lightweight, stolen a wage for the past 12 months. Don't let the door hit you on the way out bud!
Zach Guthrie - previous administration actually thought they had secured Cam, rectified the mistake this season and now have the parents favourite child, so can let Zach go.
Justin McInerney - May regret this one, plenty of talent! However, kid is kidding himself asking for $400k a season. Think you will be enjoying a season without a pay cheque buddy.
Sam Sturt - May regret this one too, the next big thing in purple. Dr Nick screwed his body and Dr House isn't confident we can get his body right.. with sadness must let go.

Coaches haven't advised the media team on:

Brett Bewley - ripping first year, solid contributor both forward and back! We gave this kid a chance, plucked from VFL and now he is asking $400k. Few not happy with the demands and may cost him his spot.
Tarryn Thomas - Potential. Dirty word in football.. time to produce son. Will see if it is with the YRA in the coming days..

Toot Toot! It's Nicky Rixon here!

Have I got the inside goss for you!!

So Michael Gibbons basically shot himself in the foot! After being on just under $104k this year, he went up to Immortals Management demanding $3.2million over 5 years!

Immortals management were shell shocked! Behind closed door it's believed board Member Darryl Kerrigan said "Tell him he's dreamin" while it's believed Manager Phizsay quipped "He ain't no Jake Lukosius!"

Get on ya chickens, I'm Nicky Rixon, and I'll keep giving you the real deal that those other so called news breakers never get. Up ya jocks Tommy Browne. Toot Toot!!!

ARCADIA TIMELORDS ANNOUNCEMENT
Arcadia Timelords are excited to announce the resigning of young defenders Callum Wilkie, Isaac Quaynor and tall forward Hayden McLean.

However, all good news comes with bad, which means promising young forwards Lachlan Schultz, Ian Hill and Ben Cavara have not been offered new contracts for 2021. The club thank all three for their services to the club and wish them luck in their future endeavours.

Rangers add a SEVENTH ruck to its list

In a low profile move right before the trade deadline, the Rangers can belatedly confirm that Tom Hickey has joined the club from the Darkness in a swap for young utility Bayley Fritsch, alongside an exchange of 2021 draft picks.

The ruck curse has again struck the Rangers with the club quickly learning after drafting Ryder on a lucratively priced one year deal that Ryder will be unavailable for the early rounds due to personal reasons. The club strongly refutes the unfounded rumours that a sneaky holiday had been organised by Ryder after learning of his contract details and confirms that Ryder’s absence is on genuine compassionate grounds. No further comment will be made at this stage on the matter but we otherwise look forward to Ryder debuting for the club in the early part of the season.

Creme de la Creme pulled off a late move in the closing hours of the trade deadline on Friday to acquire the 2nd contract rights to Tarryn Thomas from the Yorkshire Republic Army.

Tarryn joins Jordan Clark, Will Hamill and Damon Greaves as part of the young brigade adding valuable depth to various positions and filling holes left by the retirements and delistings of various players in the off season. All will be very keen to illustrate their worth in the early stages of the season.

The Giants would like to thank Jay Lockhart for his services throughout season 2020, and wish him all the best with his recovery from a serious testicular injury sustained in The Giants final preseason hitout. Lockhart was unfortunately the only 2nd Contract eligible Giant not to receive a deal for 2021 and beyond, as the club had Bailey Smith, James Rowbottom, Lachlan Sholl and Kieren Briggs all put pen to paper during signing period.

In The Mix: Who’s Pushing for Selection in Round 2?

Who's knocking on the selectors' door? Who's coming back from injury? And who's under the pump?

WHO IS a chance to play in Round 2?

In this week's In the Mix, brought to you by Bay Villas Resort Port Douglas, we find the players who are giving their selectors plenty of food for thought.

Who's going out, who's sore, who is under the pump? Our reporters attempt to pick all the Round 2 ins and outs. Check it out.

Last years Grand Finalists wasted little time in securing their first win of the new season, yet coach Tim Goodman will be demanding even more of his players ahead of this weeks Grand Final Rematch against Jordan's Jets FC. Ever-reliable defender Nick Vlastuin is in doubt after suffering a corked knee in last weeks season opener, with Jacob Koschitzke on standby to come into the side if required. Ned Cahill struggled on debut and could lose his place to fellow youngster James Rowe. While tall forward Darcy Cameron will come into contention up forward along with first-round draftee Finlay Macrae who impressed in the reserves game last Friday. In the same game, untried endurance beast Harry Sharp had a promising start but drifted, however should still be around the mark to be called upon as an emergency. SCSUL Round 1 Rising Star Errol Gulden couldn't have done any more to present a case for a round two debut, however will likely have to wait patiently with the midfield looking settled.

Verdict: Rowe in for his debut, replacing Ned Cahill. Koschitzke on standby for Vlastuin if he doesn't pass a fitness test. - Riley Beveridge

Curtis Taylor will definitely miss through concussion, but the club should have some capable replacements. The Stingers will also need to make a decision on prized youngster Connor Rozee, who has recovered from foot surgery and is available. A conservative path would see the young forward held over for one more week, but he would be a welcome addition to the forward line and midfield rotation against the Timelords. Darcy Fogarty will likely need to wait. Ely Smith impressed in his half of action in the VFL practice match against Aspley. Mitch McGovern (back) is still one week away. Paddy Dow had plenty of midfield minutes and pushed his claim. Tanner Bruhn struggled to get into a wet and wild game, whilst Tom Sparrow was held to just 10 disposals on Saturday and will have to wait their turn. Blake Hardwick impressed and could force his way into the line up at the expense of Nick Coffield.

Verdict: Paddy Dow replaces Curtis Taylor. - Callum Twomey

Not many problems at Jets HQ after a strong performance in last weekends Grand Final rematch. The reigning champs are off to a flying start through the first two rounds of 2021 and look well positioned to defend their title. Defender Liam Baker was dropped last week after a sub-par Round 1 performance. With replacement and new recruit Oleg Markov delivering a strong score of 92 in his SCSUL debut, expect Baker to remain on the outside looking in for now. Changkouth Jiath has also impressed and could break through for a debut in the coming weeks. Fellow recruit Stefan Martin disappointed with just 35 points as the Jets look to settle their ruck mix, so Marc Pittonet looks likely to regain his spot at R2 following a solid 84 in the reserves. There is some bad news, with midfielder Dylan Shiel expected to miss at least 6-weeks with a knee injury. Shiel out for Mitch Duncan looks like a straightforward change with the star Cat likely to return this week from a persistent calf niggle. Despite his bright start to the season, Darcy Macpherson seems likely to bide his time a bit longer given the solid performances of other Jets forwards.

Verdict: Pittonet and Duncan in for Martin and Shiel. If Duncan doesn’t quite make it, one of Lachlan Weller or George Hewett to replace Shiel instead. - Nathan Schmook

After a disappointing performance against last years premiers in an early season Grand Final Rematch, The Giants have been further compounded by injuries to key personnel. Serious ankle injuries to youngsters Will Day and Sam Draper will see Goodman rely on the clubs depth over the coming months. Nick Vlastuin is tipped to return to the side after he missed last weeks loss with a knee knock, whilst midfielder James Rowbottom could also return from a similar injury sustained in the sides round one victory against The Darkness. Forward Chad Wingard looks set for a return after a careful approach to his rehabilitation from a calf injury sustained in a pre-season intraclub. The club says young ruckman Nick Bryan is also available despite reports of a hamstring strain, and will be in line for a debut. Archie Perkins was solid in his second outing in the reserves last weekend, as was Sam Berry continues impress. Trent Bianco is expected to return to running inside the next month after swelling around his knee, whilst Lachie Whitfield (liver) is still at least a month away despite positive reports surrounding his recovery. Brodie Grundy is fit to tackle Yorkshire Republican Army following a negative COVID-19 test after he missed training on Monday.

Verdict: Vlastuin and the debutant Bryan in for the injured pair of Day and Draper. Wingard returns up forward for Rowe. If passed fit, Rowbottom will create a midfield headache for the selection committee. - Mitch Cleary

Young gun Connor Rozee is available so expect the exciting midfielder/forward to come straight back to face Crème De La Creme. Todd Marshall demands selection if fit after being a late withdrawal due to a sore back. Curtis Taylor is unlikely to return from concussion due to a second consecutive six-day break. Griffin Logue is in the mix if the Stingers need a big body in defence, while Liam Henry should be passed fit after a calf complaint. Cody Weightman impressed in the reserves, while Mitch McGovern is a chance to feature following a back injury. Jack Higgins, Ned McHenry, Nick Blakely and Paddy Dow have nervous waits after putting in poor performances. Whilst Blake Hardwick’s form can no longer be ignored.

Verdict: Connor Rozee and Blake Hardwick replace Paddy Dow and Nick Coffield. - Callum Twomey

In The Mix: Who’s Pushing for Selection in Round 4?

At least one change for the Jets, with Dion Prestia ruled out for 3-4 weeks with a hamstring injury. Fellow midfielder and reigning Norm Smith medallist Jed Anderson also failed to see out the game due to a tweaked ankle and will be touch and go for the clash with the Rangers. Gold Coast Sun Lachlan Weller has fallen out of the Jet’s best 22 after losing DEF status over the off-season, but should come in for his first game of the year. Does Patrick Lipinski avoid the medical sub this week? If named, the Bulldog looms as a likely inclusion should Anderson not recover in time. George Hewett struggled with just 38 points and is another who could make way. Darcy Macpherson continued to press his claims for a call up with another solid showing in the reserves, and is another option for midfield cover by allowing Tom Phillips to push up the ground. Macpherson could also be considered to replace Peter Ladhams, who recaptured his Grand Final form for a pitiful return of 21 points. At the other end of the ground, Changkouth Jiath is on the cusp of a debut after another dominant showing in the twos, with Oleg Markov looming as the most likely to make way after a lukewarm debut. Liam Baker put his hand up for a recall, but may need to wait a little longer given Jiath’s emergence. Already bad news got even worse for Dylan Shiel - the star midfielders knee injury is worse than first thought and he is now likely to miss the season.

Verdict: Jiath, Weller, and Macpherson for Markov, Prestia, and Hewett. If Anderson doesn't make it, Hewett survives another week. – Riley Beveridge

After what could only be described as a woeful performance against the Cremes, multiple openings could be available for those waiting in the wings at reserve level. Defender Fischer McAsey was solid in defence. Mitch McGovern could also return to the side after he proved his fitness following a back injury with three goals in three quarters during a VFL practice match on Saturday. Paddy Dow didn't see much of it. If Griffin Logue is fit he could be an option down back. Tom Sparrow was relatively quite. Curtis Taylor should return from concussion protocol.

Verdict: No Change. - Callum Twomey

Roppongian Rangers

The Rangers could be buoyed by the return of a few key players from the injury ward with Marshall, Luke McDonald, Ben Brown and Ryder potentially chances to return (with the latter three a chance to debut for the Rangers). After a strong performance against the Knights and a 2-1 start to the season, the competition for a spot in the 22 remains fierce. Dev Smith had been under pressure after quieter games in the first two, playing an unfamiliar role as a pure midfielder this season for the Rangers after the injury to Rowell, however, bounced back to firm his spot in the side. Pressure will mount on Fantasia and Rankine after their quieter performances.

Verdict: R.Marshall and L.McDonald (if fit) for Rankine and Fantasia (with Fantasia on standby should McDonald pull up short). - Callum Twomey

Arcadia Timelords

The undefeated Timelords depth is going to be put to the test this week when they travel to The Quagmire for the Intergalactic Derby.

Stephen Coniglio will undergo surgery on his ankle that he injured against The Darkness last week which will see him miss the next 10-12 weeks. Tests on fellow midfielder Harry Perryman have showed that the illness that kept him out of last weeks game was due to glandular fever which will mean he will be sidelined for at least a couple more weeks.

Defenders Mark O’Connor and Aaron Francis have been showing good form in the reserves and may finally be given an opportunity to break into the solid Timelords defence as they restructure to cover the loss of their two gun midfielders. Jarrod Brander has also been showing good form and could come in for his first game for the season. The forward line has been only just holding on in the absence of Jack Martin with Lachlan Murphy, Brody Mihocek and Hayden McLean all under the pump to hold their place, particularly if out of favour tall Jeremy Finlayson or Miles Bergman get recalls, but that might depend on whether Tom Green can hold his place in the depleted midfield.

Verdict: O’Connor, Brander and Finlayson for Coniglio, Green and McLean - Riley Beveridge
