Who would you take if you could pick only one AFL-era legend in their prime/peak? Please feel free to explain your choice and list what year you think they were at their very best.
Please note: I don't mean who had the best overall career, just who you would take at their peak.

Just re the poll: I tried to think of the best players I could but had to leave some champions out. So, apologies to Nathan Buckley, James Hird, Robert Harvey, Jason Dunstall, Adam Goodes, Ben Cousins, and Patrick Dangerfield, amongst many others. Please feel free to select 'other' and comment with the name of any player I missed.

BTW...my pick is 2017 Dusty Martin. Why? He won everything and was unstoppable that year.

Pretty hard to not pick a Gary Ablett here. I’ll listen to arguments for senior but junior pretty comfortably the best player of the modern era IMO.

Judd probably my fave to watch at his peak though. His power from stoppage always made me think of a big cat on the hunt. Deliberate, calculated and always precise.

Which Chris Judd would you take - explosive dynamo 2004 Chris Judd, or hard-ball get beast 2010 Chris Judd?

Tough one.

Hard not to go past Ablett senior , but think I would take Carey for his ability to turn a game in a quarter.

Highlights of that State game where Ablett kicked 8 are amazing to watch

Imagine if we had today's media coverage back when Ablett , Carey , Dunstall & Lockett etc were playing.

Think Fyfe would be rated even better than he was if he played for a Victorian team.

Not going to try and convince anyone to change their minds because they're all serious players, but I'm gonna throw premiership era Adam Goodes into the conversation.

Absolute freak of nature. You probably have more players with his kind of physical profile now but he dominated games in every position, burning bigger players off with speed and towering over anyone who could run with him.

Wow! A lot of love for Ablett Junior thus far (I'm also a fan of his).
Those who voted for Ablett, what year do you think was his peak output? 2009? 2013? A non-Brownlow year?

AFL era. Matthews finished up in the mid 80's, AFL started in 1990. Agree he would be a great choice if the time frame was extended.
I definitely would have put him, Royce Hart, Polly Farmer, John Coleman etc in the poll if it were an all-time thing. I chose to just do AFL-era because a lot of us (including myself) would likely only know VFL only players by reputation.

If you have a spare 30 seconds, please complete this poll. Please and thank you. 💛
Because you asked so nicely.

Ablett senior.

I thought he was overrated until watching him as an unbiased supporter when I had finals series tickets and remember being in awe of his entire series.

Although having a senior moment can't recall what year it was.

Loved Juddy,

Great game in the elimination final of 2013 (sorry Miss B). Still the highlight of my 21yo sons supporter lives.

🤞 hopefully can surpass that memory next month.

Judd's second half of the 2013 Richmond vs Carlton final was A+++ grade. Sent me home crying...literally.
