If I may say an unpopular opinion, I'm not a big fan of LA Knight. I don't mind the character, but it really does feel so derivative of The Rock/Austin (whom I loved) that it borders upon parody at times for me. I actually find the non-stop 'YEAH's' annoying. One well-timed 'YEAH' here and there would be more than enough.
The crowd have a part to play in that, given it my have usurped the what chants but on the contrary it would be one of the most enjoyable parts for the live crowd and kudos to LA Knight’s business savvy for getting himself over and forcing his push in the twilight of his career given the shelf life for a wrestler.

In regards to the derivative of the Rock/Austin, I gather that is moreso referring to their promo work rather than in ring ability or a bit of both? More noticeable in this era due to the contrast with the typical modern wrestler promo skills compared to say the peak of the aforementioned duo. Always bound for future generations to take inspiration from prior eras and is a great way to introduce a younger audience to their work and thus more appreciative of it. Take for example Hulk Hogan’s shtick lifted from Superstar Billy Graham or the popularisation of the DDT, Superkicks,Hardcore & Lucha style, etc. Depending on how you frame it, it can either be a good thing or a bad thing. From an enjoyment maximisation perspective, it is best not to compare eras/athletes in say wrestling, football, etc as most of the time it just ends up being a roundabout to nowhere.

I understand where you are coming from, but there is being inspired by a past wrestler and there is mimicking them. I feel like LA Knight’s attire is extremely similar to Stone Cold, his promos are very similar to the Rock infused with the ‘what’ style of catchphrase from Stone Cold. And LA Knight utilises the ‘YEAH’ far too much in my opinion. It was cool once when Stone Cold did it, but it feels lame now. I should say, that I wish the person behind the wrestler all the very best, I just don’t enjoy the character at all. I also have no problem if anyone disagrees with me.

I hope that we can agree to disagree, @Connoisseur. I value your input and discussions. 💛💛💛

Just curious, who are everyone's favourite all-time wrestlers?

My favourites:

Favourite male wrestlers: Kevin Nash, Triple H, Stone Cold, Chris Jericho, Hollywood Hulk Hogan.

Favourite female wrestlers: Trish Stratus, Becky Lynch, and Lita.

Favourite factions: NWO (original), NWO wolfpack, and Degeneration X (original and with The New Age Outlaws).

Favourite tag-teams: The Outsiders and The Hardy Boyz.

Favourite entrance music: Hollywood Hulk Hogan Voodoo Child (also known as the coolest entrance theme ever).

Why did the crowd boo Hulk Hogan?
Who wouldn’t ;) and a very smart crowd given he is a lying and selfish piece of crap.
  • Stopped Jesse Ventura from attempting to start a wrestlers union during Wrestlemania 2 bus qealing to the boss. At that time Hulk was at the top of the card and the highest paid wrestler so unionisation would have hurt his hip pocket. Due to their classification as independent contractors rather than employees, the wrestlers have to pay for their medical and travel expenses rather than their employer. They do not receive retirement benefits as well.

  • Too much creative control over the years in both WWE and WCW and his backstage politicking. Wrestlemania IX and his refusal to drop the belt to Bret Hart afterwards, Bash at the Beach 2000, etc but most importantly in regards to Sting is Starrcade 1997. Poorly executed finish which was changed late and Hogan didn’t want to drop the belt or lose clean because Sting wasn’t tanned enough.

  • Unable to delineate from truth and fiction. Some of his lies include- ”Wrestled 400 days in a year”, “Offered the lead role three times for The Wrestler ”, “Claims he was the first wrestler to use entrance music”, “Lars Ulrich asked him to join Metallica”, “Claims he never used steroids” and so on

I wasn't aware of those things. Thank you for sharing.

I will say that none of us know Hulk Hogan the person. So, it's hard to judge him on his personal and off-screen professional lives. However, Hulk Hogan the wrestler (on-screen) is a legend. I just don't believe in judging the off-screen person. 🤷‍♀️

My pleasure although I did take too much advantage of the prime opportunity to bag him. :devilish: The issue with the industry is that sometimes they have difficulty in identifying where the gimmick starts and ends which ends up winding all into one. American hero gimmick fighting the foreign heel targeted towards a conservative audience can turn just about anyone into a superstar.

If you are not familiar with the Iron Sheik VS Hulk Hogan story which started Hulkamania then I would recommend to search it for a read. Briefly, Iron Shiek was the transitional champion to set up Hulk for his run as champ since Bob Backland refused to lose the title to Hogan and Verne Gagne (AWA promoter) attempted to bribe Shieky baby to inflict serious injury to Hogan since he left Verne’s promotion for the WWF. If only Shieky humbled that jabroni in the camel clutch. :ROFLMAO:

Far too young/not alive for his prime and thus no nostalgia attached. Whilst I acknowledge his contribution to the industry as the character, the man will never earn any of my respect for such a despicable act (putting a stop to any unionisation attempts) due to the countless careers and lives it has ruined.

Could never stand Hogan anyway..
Had the heel moveset long before his heel run whilst he was the top babyface. Back rake here and an eye rake there.

If you are interested in learning more about the rights issues of wrestlers, then the WWE episode of Last Week Tonight with John Oliver is a good starting point since they take on heavy topics with a laugh and well researched material. Jesse Ventura clips on YouTube as well are a good listen.

I would caution about heading too far down the rabbit hole given the subject matter, if this in any way significantly impacts your enjoyment of the spectacle that is wrestling, if you were unaware of these issues previously.
