Now we are half way through the season the schedules of teams may have real impact on performance. Players have wear and tear, teams can have injuries to critical players with weaker player called upon to fill in (especially important on OL and DL). So should we now start to consider the ramifications for some teams?
49ers. Have the worst rest disadvantage of any team this season. And coming up SF face Seattle off their bye Week 11, Bills off their bye Week 13, Bears coming off an extended break Week 14. Ouch.
Bengals, Bears, Dallas. These teams have the 3 games in 10 days designation coming up. and this is before any of the funky fixtures due to the Xmas period.
Bengals Week 14 MNF in Dallas, then Sunday Week 15 Titans with a day less rest, then follow up 4 days later on Thursday with Cleveland.
Bears Week 15 MNF vs Vikings, then Lions Week 16 and 4 days later with Seattle.
Dallas Week 11 MNF vs Texans, then Washington Week 12 and 4 days later Giants for the Thanksgiving game.
I have seen an article that said from 1990 to the end of the 2023 season teams in the final game of a 3 game in 10 days scenario had won 5 of 13 games despite often being considered the favoured team to win. It also said that last year when KC had to play a team where KC had at least a 2 day rest disadvantage, the Superbowl Champions won only 2 and lost 3.
