Provisional 2025 Opening Team:

DEF: Clark, Newman, NWM, McKercher, Coleman, Rookiex3
MID: Petracca, Dawson, Oliver, Cerra, Sheldrick, Rookiex6
RUC: TDK, Darcy, Rookie
FWD: JHF, Rankine, B.Smith, Macrae, Phillipou, C. Daniel, Rookiex2

Prices calcuated as of last season avg*5500; no discounts applied. Have way overspent on rookies so should have plenty of room to manuever.

Tried to avoid early byes except in the cases of exceptional value; also tried to hit value picks over over-spending on starting picks.

I'm thinking of having a starting mid field of -Bont, N Daicos, J Dawson,C Oliver/Docherty, W Day, , W Ashcroft, rookie & rookie. This gives me 2 definite keepers in Bont & N Daicos with 4 under-priced mids that can be used as a stepping stone if they fail. I'm selecting Dawson based on the Crows fixture and I think Dawson could be a keeper? Dawson can score big when he plays well.

Why so much love for Dawson?

Had injury issues it seems over last two seasons, although, they dont tell you till its too late.

Sid Draper and Peatling to come in as well.

Crouch, Laird roles constantly moving around. Does Rankine get more mid time. Too many questions for my liking.

Priced at 102.1 is fair value even in different roles, highly durable and no bye until the second last of the bye rounds.

So Dockers GM of Football on Ch 7 quoted as saying if Sean Darcy is not ready for the start of the 2025 season they would not risk him as they need to think of the long term(I am paraphrasing there). Darcy is on light duties with Dockers back at training. More than 4 months till start of the season. Not sure how to take that.

And he is on the books until 2030. Is that what they call long term. Was a stupid extension given his obvious injury concerns and the addition of Luke Jackson.

Will be role dependent.

Zero interest if he’s solely a forward. Interested if he gets midfield minutes and/or is around stoppages regularly.

Gut feel is the role won’t be there for sufficient SC scoring.
Yeah it will be interesting to see how it plays out.

Personally I found the Xerri/LDU/Wardlaw/Sheezel/Powell combo a bit underwhelming in 2024 - like on paper it seemed like a strong group of elite talent, but there were games where they were smashed in there and they eventually had to resort to introducing guys like Simpkin back in there.

Maybe they’ll improve drastically with another preseason under their belts, but I also wouldn’t be surprised if they turn to Parker to save them in the midfield if things get tough again in 2025.

Gotta remember that coming into 2024 that combo was still pretty raw.

Talented for sure, but when you go into the season with your 5 top CBA guys having played an average of just 38 AFL games, you're going to get smashed. That's probably the least inexperienced in the league and it showed.

They will be better this year and I'm sure we'll burst Luke Parker through there occasionally to save the younger bodies, but he's there for the on field leadership, uncompromising attitude and craft as a FWD with mid stints, rather than a main extractor (I would think).

Harry Sharp a nice addition. Does he get a spot on MID rotation. Any news which line he is training with.?
