M Short must be close to a Squad call up 😉

Wonder if they try and get Connolly involved with a view to the Sri Lanka tour
With Marsh failing again... Going to struggle to get to Sydney, especially as not bowling a lot.

Webster in, Connolly in the squad with a view to Sri Lanka?

Who's the next back up keeper? Philippe?

I would have thought they picked a backup keeper just in case. Not sure who would be next in line though.

Probably be McSweeney though if they go for a batter.
Most I have read they just seemed interested in his batting , keeping probably a bonus if something happened to Carey.

Personally I would leave McSweeney alone , unless they suddenly decide to drop Khawaja or Labuschagne.

If we lose this match, wouldn't be surprised to see the broom come out... Marsh and Khawaja to go.

Peirson & Philippe were the keepers for Australia A v India A

Other possible "spare" bat options could be Renshaw or Handscomb.

Running through the BBL keepers, it’s slim pickings:

Inglis - the one who needs replacing
Nielsen - surely not
Harper - no
Seifert - international
Billings - international
Wade - retired from internationals
Phillippe - next in?
Pierson - FC average of 35 is not far off the batsmen we seem to be considering as next man in, but already aged 32. Surely we go for someone younger?

Who would this leave out - ie those keeping at Shield level who aren’t playing Big Bash?

They do some very strange things but surely they are not going to bring in a keeper 🤔

Thought Inglis was the spare bat because of his batting form in the Shield this season.

Not sure how highly they rate Doran's keeping.

I agree with that - it was responding to Dravid’s question about who the next keeper in would be.

The next tier of wicketkeepers seems to be pretty thin, similar to our batsmen.

Oops , I need to read posts and replies better.

Lot of people regard Nielsen as a better keeper than Carey but I doubt Harry will get a baggy green.

I recall years ago they were talking up Doran (& Sangha) as once in a generational bats , not sure how highly ranked Doran's keeping is though

Agree Khawaja needs to go , but can't see them going back to McSweeney so soon (would be extremely unfair)

Throw Bancroft or Harris under the Bumrah bus ?

Ring up Warner 😢
Henry Hunt is the leading run scorer in the Sheffield shield this year & is an opener - 27 years old.

Think I would rather they take a punt on him when Khawaja is done rather than going back to Bancroft or Harris

Have my eye on him , surely gets picked for the Australia A v England Lions 4 day game and they don't pick Bancroft & Harris again.

Shield player of the year (shared) 2020-21 , got a Australia A tour then the runs dried up.

Think he even captained the Redbacks at some stage then had a bad injury last season.

Good to see him back in the runs

Qld - Peirson
NSW - Philippe/Gilkes
Vic - Harper
Tas - Doran
SA - Carey/Neilson
WA - Inglis/Curtis

Not a lot to call on from there. Philippe younger then Peirson, but averages less then 30.
