Is Sangakarra no longer skipper of his country? Otherwise that seems odd that Matthews was named skipper ahead of him :p

Yeah Matthews has been captain for a while now.

And Indian skipper MS Dhoni out of the first Test through injury, Virat Kholi to captain.

Haddin also in a bit of doubt still for us.

What is the deal with Ryan Harris?
Has his knee finally retired ?
"Harris is set to return from injury into the Sheffield Shield this weekend, as his state Queensland takes on New South Wales in the third round of the competition.

Even better news, with The Courier-Mail understanding that he will not be placed under any bowling restrictions from the Cricket Australia medicos.

Australia's first Test against India commences on December 4 in Brisbane, which is what the 35-year-old is aiming to be fit for."

Cool, thanks for update mate. Seems like we need him bad. Not many of our pace bowlers in form at the moment. Pattinson not back from injury yet. Siddle form a little worry. Starc needs more bowling to find some form and Cummings only just starting back with domestic stuff and T20 cricket.
Johnson about only pace bowler secure for 1st Test here.

Yep he would be handy, not sure Siddle is going to cut it down the track.
Gotta make sure Pattinson is firing along with Cummins, watched Cummins in the T20 Internationals and the Matador One Dayers and gee he is impressive!!

NOT good news at all...

Breaking news !
Australian captain Michael Clarke will play no further part in today's ODI, as he has re-injured his hammstring.
He will have scans tomorrow to assess the damage.

And whilst Johnson probably doesn't know this yet considering he is playing atm...

Mitchell Johnson, you are the man !!
Congratulations to Mitchell Johnson, who is the ICC Cricketer of the Year, winning the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy !!
Johnson also claims the ICC Test Cricket Player of the Year !!
What a legend !

Interesting Faulkner and Steve Smith not playing today.
Probably Mitch Marsh and Hazelwood getting a look in to see what they co do.

World Cup still some time away but early thoughts.

Squad of 15

Finch
Warner
Watson
M Clarke
Bailey
S Smith
Maxwell
(Haddin or Wade if Haddin not right to play)
Faulkner
M Johnson
Coulter-Nile
Starc
Mitch Marsh
Boyce
Cummings

Others will get their chance in next two months in other series but I suspect the main guys in final squad will be the above.

The spinner role is the one most open to changing but Aussies could probably get away with using Maxwell and Smith for most game. Also Clarke if he allowed to bowl in March.

Surely Faulkner should start over Maxwell??? Good case for Cummins over Hazelwood and Smith over Watson/Marsh as well.

No!
They are not competing for a spot. They should be both in. They both bring too much to table to not be in our best 11 come World Cup time. Cannot see Hazelwood in our best 11 or even in squad unless a lot of pace bowlers injured.

The reason why Faulkner was not playing is so that he and Starc could get some red ball practice incase needed for the first test, so they are playing Shield cricket.

A reason as to why Smith may not have been picked for the first ODI (and it wasn't documented a lot) was that a couple of days ago Johnson hit I'm on the hand in the nets at the WACA, and possibly could have done a little damage. I think they might have thought from that that he gets a quick rest, but now he'll slot straight back in to where Clarke won't be.
