Apparently Kane Lambert dominated in a practice match against Essendon, 25 possies. Will keep him I think.

So after round 1 who do people see as the "must have" rookies? Who will you be looking to get in over the next two weeks?

I think I have done okay with the following rookies:

Def: McIntosh, Saad (Oxley, Brown)
Mid: Heeney, CEY, Vandenberg (Anderson, Cripps, Miller)
Fwd: Clark, Salem, Hogan (Lamb, Lonie)

Perhaps Newton is the only decent rookie I am missing (went with Cripps instead)

yep, Newton could be on the list as would be Brayshaw (and maybe NVB). Jaden McGrath as well in fwd. expensive some of those at +$200k, Wouldn't trade them in at that price (in round 3) but in hindsight the returns were positive relative to their price.

Probably Newton instead of Anderson who I think might be sporadic but I'd wait another week. Hawthorn will want to get minutes into him, O'Rourke and Hartung and they have Birchall to come back in. McGrath at Brisbane might be better than Lamb who looked a bit lost to me but again I would wait. Will Schofield will come in at some point to replace Mitch Brown and West Coast have a few talls they can try as the third tall to replace Lamb. Lonie looked good although he might struggle against better opposition and I think Saad would lose his spot to Billings before Lonie. He looks like a little Luke Breust.

I am waiting for the teams and subs for this weeks games - I would be very surprised if Anderson wasn't 'upgraded' to a full game with Shiel's injury. If that happens, we can get a good luck at his ability and scoring levels :)

If they look good, I will be strongly considering trading Sheed down to him and taking some coin.

Yup, Anderson and Mcgrath with Lamb, Sinclair, Miller and Cripps on the watchlist for me.

I don't get why everyone is getting on Newton?

JS looks great, but he needed to kick 2 goals to reach 78 points. Unless you think he's going to kick 40+ for the year, the 78 a game looks unsustainable.

Angus Brayshaw way more impressive for that $$ - 9 touches and 9 tackles for 89 points. And he was subbed off. Sure the 9 tackles might not be sustainable, but he could easily push averages to 14 touches, 6 tackles, in 80% game time.

Of the ones I did not get the only one that looks like screaming out to me as a must have is McIntosh. He will be on bubble.
If Lonie and Oxley are not making me coin after this round I could cut one for McIntosh. Lots of other rookies like Sheed, Cripps and Miller I will get too fussed on based on one bad week.

Agree with you that Brayshaw looks the goods and could go big this year. I'm going to wait until next round but I'm going to turn either Sheed or Cripps into him.

I wouldn't be banking on Cripps scoring well this week either. The big spaces of Subi don't suit his game style. Best we can hope for is a tight contested game where he can go to work.

Really don't want to have to drop Cripps because I have other concerns that need addressing, but if he pumps out another 50, at his price, he has to go.

I agree he isn't a great cash cow but it doesn't look like we have a lot of choice this year. Bernie Vince has to come in and Roos has been clear about not wearing out young players. I guess we'll see this week or next when the teams are named.

You're right. Brayshaw looked great, just a worry is the Demons history of subbing their rookies.

I already have Heeney, Vandenberg, CEY, Miller, Anderson (and Krak as loopholing best bench players). There are a few other mid rookies but all with huge doubts on vesting and JS. I think that Brayshaw's outing was a good indication for the Melbourne coaching staff to see where he is physically and aerobically. May end up trading Cripps for Brayshaw in A flops and B kills it. If there was a rookie 80-100k cheaper than the two with the same output I would get them come the conclusion of Round 2.

Probably won't score as much, but the WCE BF board seem to rate Nelson quite highly.

More so as a def/mid than true mid though.

Could be their Bennell this year(?)

So expect rocky to miss 8 plus weeks then?
