Proper rebuilds take time and while they are terrible at the minute I reckon the time to judge the Blues is the end of 2020, with some high draft picks in the 2018 and 2019 drafts, another 30-40 games into the youngsters and Docherty hopefully back and fully firing. Kreuzer, Simmo and Daisy will most likely all be finished and getting some decent recruits to replace them will be important.
they have gone backwards , pretty tough to rely on the next 2 drafts to improve a side , 50% of the 2017 draft has yet to debut let alone show they have what it takes.

2020 Murphy , Simmo , Thomas will be gone

half their current list is not up to AFL standard so hard to see how much better they can get in 2 years

Has been a player that has baffled me as to why he doesn’t get continuous games into him. Does he have a lack of indurance or are there to many of his type of player at saints?
There seems to be some competition for spots in the midfield, he was banished to the two's earlier in the year for a couple of games from memory, I'd assume due to consistency or not following team rules, who knows, purely speculation.

For all Carlton supporters we need to stick fat, I too am frustrated, but can't do much about the current situation. Give it a week or 2 and we'll be talking about a request for a priority pick. They might wait for afl house to start prompting them first. Having the first 2 picks in this years draft will be gold, Adelaide have confirmed their interest in the 4 Adelaide based draftees, with Live trading on offer, we could see current, future picks and players swap teams. Should be great viewing, I might take time out of work for this lol.

Hoping we can get multiple picks and a decent player if we can do a swap. We also need to get rid of some of the rabble, Polson only played a few games, shows a bit of promise, but decision making and disposal isn't afl standard. SPS drifts in and out, not sure on him, Graham has to go, vfl performer only. Lobbe recruited as back up for Kruezer hasn't played due to injury, no due diligence there. I'm sure there are many more ee can go through.

Spot on, IDIG.
What's all this talk about "you have to understand, they are going through a rebuild, and that takes a number of years".
The rebuild didn't start this year, or last year, so just how do they explain that they've actually gone backwards so much, in the last 2 years?!

2011 - played finals
2012 - finished 10th with 11 wins
2013 - 9th with 11 wins
2014 - 13th with 7 wins
2015 - 18th with 4 wins
2016 - 14th with 7 wins
2017 - 16th with 6 wins
2018 - up to round 17 - 18th with 1 win

The rebuild started 4 seasons ago, and they should be showing signs of improvement by now, instead it looks like they are starting again from 1 step behind scratch!
Their recruiting definitely needs to be questioned. They were praised for going down the GWS “reject” route at the time but it makes me wonder if that was the correct call in the end. A lot of time the known quantity is a bit safer but outside of Marchbank I really don’t see any instances where it wouldn’t have been more beneficial to them to go for undiscovered talent.

The beauty of the draft is that you have the chance of uncovering gems, while using the recycled player route probably brings up the mean quality of players in the side, if there was any chance they’d end up a gem they’d still be wearing orange.

Mediocrity gets you absolutely nowhere in life and to me it feels like that is exactly what they aimed for, not to be a great side, but to not be a **** side.

Malthouse wasn't rebuilding in 2015 when he got the sack, the rebuild started in 2016.

A lot of the wins in both 2016 and 2017 were early season with the finishes to both seasons being terrible.

Trading Gibbs out last year on top of Docherty being injured has taken most of the remaining mature aged quality out of the side. Don't get me wrong teams can rebound quicker than the Blues will but a 5 year rebuild always seems long when the team is having a shocker in season 3.

Mitch or Berry to tag ?
Mitch per the lineups, but Berry has been tagging too, so they could alternate depending on how it goes. Titch can't have 2 stinkers? can he?
Hawks should be motivated and playing against Hodgey for the 1st time, I think he missed the earlier game.

Hi Professor ,

Didn't Carlton tell the AFL it didn't want !st priority pick for being last as it would look like they had been tanking all season , i'm sure i read that during the bye rounds somewhere or it may have been on fox footy ...???????

Yes that's the party line, but, I'm assuming that may change given all these heavy losses. Should be interesting to see if their stance changes.
