Great! Looks like a quorum. Thanks @Diabolical for starting.

I have been charged with chairing the selection committee. I think it will be somewhere between a democracy and a benevolent dictatorship, depending on how involved everyone wants to be in picking the starting team. For the purposes of the trading comp it doesn't matter what we start with, but as Diabolical mentioned I think our competitive instincts would prefer to start with the best possible base.

I am not much chop at Fantasy so I am happy for the strategy to be challenged, but the pricing structure and extra trades makes value even more more important (and harder to come by) so at the moment I am thinking we aim for:

8 <200k rookies for the bench;
2 captains;
2 fwds, mids and defs we predict to be top 6 in their line and score at least to their price;
The rest made of players we predict to outscore their price by 25+.

For ease of discussion let's use 7250 as the magic number. I.e, Tom Liberatore is $392k, so he is priced to 54 (392000/7250); Sam Walsh is $270k so is priced to 37.

Bench rookies will be hardest to sort out because of cuto*** and selection so let's ignore them for now.

But to get the team rolling I hereby invite everyone to submit their picks for:

1 pick to be the highest scoring player (captain);
1 pick on each line to be top 6 and score at least to their price;
6 picks to outscore their price by 25+ (rookies can be included).

Hopefully a core emerges and we can then play around with some XvYs and further submissions as JLT rolls on.

Thanks all!
Thanks Stephen. Do you want us to PM these to you so we don’t influence each other, or just put our selections in this thread?

That’s great, it means we are up to 13 - thanks Mods for editing the opening post entrants list.

We need one more coach to give us even league numbers - I will be happy to set a league up and lock it in for 14.. Ideally I would like five more as an 18 team league would be perfect with head to heads starting round 3 and playing each other once. Even though overall rank will be our aim, the H2H’s add a bit of entertainment.

If your thinking about giving this a go, join now before it’s too late! You can then also choose to be involved and have an influence in setting our round 1 starting team.

Yes, I ummed and ahhed over the number. Feel free to consider it a stretch goal. I'm sure there will be chances to put forward slightly less optimistic picks as we round out the team. (And you will not be marked on this test. All entries will remain confidential!)

Still looking for at least one more coach to join this comp, but preferably another five.

It is free and there are some pretty good SC players from this site on board, so why not join in the fun?

If you haven’t played AFL Fantasy before, that’s fine, your SC knowledge will get you through ... you even get two trades every week, so never run out like in SC! Join in and learn some trading skills from the others involved - you will even have your starting team decided for you, so there is no easier way to give AFL Fantasy a try!

Now the league is full, new draftees please read Stephens request above and PM him your selections. The sooner we all do this, the sooner Stephen can get the first draft of our team out.

I’ll PM stephen shortly.

I did wonder whether this was an interesting format to go mid-price madness on. It might leave us is no mans land, however.

Thanks all for your submissions. Here is Draft 1.

AFLF.JPG

Queries, challenges, insults, demands all welcome.

The main weird one is probably Witts at R2. I think in this game a placeholder is more useful. I don't see Gawn as a C option and his last season was by far his best in AFLF (he's not always the best scorer in this format). Witts is better in this than SC and has a good early draw. But I'm certainly not wedded to the pick if people hate it.

I see this as very much an early draft so please give freely with your thoughts.

On a practical note I know this is a lesser priority than SC so let's lock a team early next week. Any changes needing to be made from final teams won't involve Thursday night players and won't require any changes until the next day. Does that suit?
