Do the injuries of Smith/Orazio keep Ham in the side long enough to be considered?
The poor senior level form is a worry so although there is a spot there, guys like Begley/Laverde who are returning from injury might take it.

Probably would avoid but I’m still giving him some more thought. Might not get named this week so that would make it easy

Anyone have a strong view on Stocker? (apologies if discussed elsewhere already)

I’m still considering Larkey at $177k v Stocker. Am concerned that Stocker is straight out for Simpson next round but does Stocker get to play in the midfield or fwd if there isn’t a spot in the backline? An injury could pop up as well. Endurance concerns are a red flag for Stocker though.

The extra $50k would no doubt be handy but playing through the byes is key for all rookies taken now.

I don't have a strong view on this, but like your thinking. Seriously considering Larkey as well, with Stocker seemingly th main competition.

Do any North or Blues fans have a view?

Larkey better job security, however, as a key forward his scoring can be sporadic. Unlike Corbett, probably gets 2/3rd best defender. only takes another 40 to see his scoring stall.

Didn't see Stocker, solid player, 19 years old and 83kg. Will be an easier call if he still gets a game and Newman/Simpson both back. Played more defence game 1 and slightly more mid time game 2, judging by heat map.

Firstly, I have both Larkey & Corbett, traded in the former after his 1st game (along with Hayes) which allowed me to grab both Answerth & Corbett last round with the knowledge that the other Rookies coming through either had suspect JS and/or scoring potential.

My personal opinion on Larkey is that he's a very important structural player for us. We've had Preuss and/or Majak in previous years as that pseudo forward/ruck role, Campbell was given first shot at holding down that spot at the start of the season but was no good so Larkey came in to fill that void. From what I've seen, he very much passed the eye test. He has been plying his trade in the VFL for over a year, so not really your typical Rookie, and was the leading goal scorer in the VFL last year. He competes well and is also a good mark (averaging 5/game over his first 3 games), works in well with Brown by virtue of his increased output with Larkey in the team. Most impressive for me is his mobility, he gets to the right position to link up our transition from defence to forward really well, something that Petrie used to do for us. I remember coming across a stats (can't recall from where) that he had more scores involvement than TK last round, something like 13???

With SYD, WBD, RIC, GCS & GWS leading up to his bye, I can see an opportunity for another spike game or two to accelerate his growth. JS was a major consideration for me taking him and I think he'll play out the majority of the season. Along with Corbett & Balta, they form a trio of that Rd14 FWD Rookies which is ideal for my bye planning. I would've loved to have the likes of Baker and/or Bolton in hindsight, but at the time and given the circumstance, I'm quite content in my current trio as long as they serve a purpose up and through the MBRs.

Cheers for the thoughts. It’s always really difficult with rookies, I have passed on a few rookies due to JS concerns already but they’ve ended up staying in for one reason or another. Wondering whether Stocker will do the same or if it’s better to pay up for Larkey as I’m quite confident in his JS.

Did get to watch Larkey on the weekend and like @THCLT was quite impressed and thought he looked important structurally for the Roos (was ruing not taking him as a second downgrade). Allows Ziebell to play midfield and he seems to be the Waite replacement.

Think THCLT’s pump up has me leaning towards Larkey over Stocker again. It’s only $50k and I think it guarantees an extra player during the byes (barring an injury, boy that would suck...)

I'm interested in Rowbottom.

Had limited TOG in his first couple of hit outs, coming off 27 disposals, 11 clearances, nine inside 50s and two majors - I think Swans need to start blooding some new midfielders and let guys like Kieren Jack need to be phased out. Swans season is shot so they might as well get some games into the kids.

Still a little undersized listed at 78kegs - will depend on Hately I think.

Could be first out for Ronke, Buddy, Jack simply for first in first out reasoning.

Swans actually already have one of the youngest teams going around right now so I don’t think they have to go full blown dump all the oldies and play the youngsters, as a lot are already being played.

He's a Jack replacement from what I can read into it. Jack is done I'm afraid, just need Horse to see this now.

Can't see the love TBH ... Swannies game style means bugger all cheap possessions aside from Llyod which as an opposition coach would be the first player I look to shut down ... so if he can't take contested possessions IMO then he won't score well ..

Isn't it nice to check the teams on a Thursday night and see rookies here, rookies there, rookies waiting to fatten up everywhere!

Is Hately the must have downgrade of the week?

Here's the write on Rowbottom from the prospectus. Had 2 goals and 125 DT in the NEAFL last week.
  • Rowbottom (117k mid): 186cm, 78kg, 18 years old. Averaged 72 DT and 103 SC in the U18C and 87DT and 97 SC in the TAC Cup. Averaged the most clearances in the TAC Cup of any player who played more than 3 games. Rated elite for CPs, score involvements and tackles, and above average for disposals and score assists. Recorded the fifth most score assists of any midfielder in the U18C, while rating elite for CPs and pressure acts. As is typical for inside players, his kicking isn't a strength, rating below average for kicking efficiency in both competitions.
