I’m considering Laird if taking a defender but can use Hill DPP to consider Parish, Steven or Greenwood types. Not sure as yet where I land.

In the unlikely scenario we get some decent basement def rookies, I can go eg Young/Serong/Houston to 123k rookie/123k rookie/Oliver
Easy swap to Laird for me, Crows look like they’re playing a short kick out of defence style so I expect him to go back to racking them up like no ones business.

What do we supect with crispy at pies this year what type of role will he play and was 2 years a go a one off
I haven't considered Crisp because, in the past, he's butchered the ball, so not for me as there are others around his price bracket that I like ahead of him. Also, I don't like that his bye is Rd 13.
One positive for Crisp is that he has had a good preseason.

I agree but disagree at the same time

Ha. That's kind of how I feel about my post as well in hindsight. I hadn't really considered Roberton because of the risks, but now you all have me considering switching Houston to Roberton, with the intention of trading Roberton out by his bye, and then maybe Houston in for the MBRs.

I'm not sure about this, if they are doing this then I suspect they're not doing a real good job of it. the numbers point towards a more handball friendly type of game but these stats obviously don't show where on the ground each disposal is.

Good info there, thanks for sharing. I did only watch a half of their marsh game and the full game of the u/23 match against Port so I may have entirely misinterpreted what I saw but to my eye there seemed to be a lot of short kicks in the back half. Will watch closely this weekend.

Their historical Team's stats seems to back this up as well...

Marsh 1: K to H ratio = 1.08

2019: K to H ratio = 1.34

Whilst Laird is undervalued compared to previous seasons, i just dont know if he can reach those heights again. Hes been in and out of my team. Im really warming to Milera though but that undermines my GnR approach.

You end up getting 23 games out of his position opposed to 22. You also get the option of seeing if he’s even worth having in your side.

Gone from a deadset lock to a no brain wait and see in my view.
Fair enough. Maybe i haven't got my head around the impact of this bye yet.

Just like literally every other player that has a round 12 or 13 bye.

You can slingshot all of them to get the extra game - I really don't understand why people are taking him out if they previously thought he was a good pick.

Still need 22 players in rnd 11 but only 18 in the other 3 byes and those 18 can come from anywhere on the ground.

You can make that slingshot earlier though with R11 bye players so you can get more weeks of premium scoring. 1-2 weeks over a rookie could still be 40-100 pts depending on the position.

For those also taking Roberton, it’s too risky hoping both your def bench rookies are playing. Worst case with Roberton you can cash him out at his bye

That's not the case, it's not 1-2 weeks. It's 1 game - the same as other slingshot players. It's a constant, it doesn't compound.

If they had a bye round in round 4, and you traded Houston in round 5, you don't get 8 extra weeks of a premium outscoring a rookie before the rest of the byes. The rookie upgrade could have gone to anyone, and you'd get a premium outscoring a rookie for that period.

You get one 1 week advantage - his "non-bye" during the bye period.

That's worth considering, but you also have 30 players to choose from (unlike by weeks where it could be 20 or less) - and apart from Roberton and Houston, I can't imagine there will be many more players from Saints or Port with any meaningful ownership.

So it's about navigating your defensive line through that round. Either have 8 warm bodies / swap Houston to the mids via a Starcevich/Ash type who might have presented by then via DPP / cop the donut and treat it like a donut in any other bye round (for which you'll have 2 players playing all 3 games).
