Is Dylan roberton a must starting as I’ve had to reshape team and he out for now .
We all need to make sacrifices somewhere, no reason why you can't pick him up round 2 or 3 if he starts well. I don't mind if I need to suck up one or two price rises on players, just accept it and don't be too proud.

I don't think he is a must. If you are loading up fwds tho he is a clear option down back. This year is gonna be a year where trading is crucial. ATM I'm seeing Roberton are a bit of a "meh" pick. I don't think he will hurt you either way but will clearly go up in value which atm is something we can pay a premium for. I reckon that the ball will go through far more players in the Saints line up come rd 1 than the last time he played. I'm planning for an av in 70s.

FWIW I think there are quite a few coaches expecting more than this and there is a certain argument to support this. Until he brains it on the weekend I'm looking for ways to upgrade him in my squads....I dont want to take him and Naismith

Any coach concerned about his JS for this season at least should be comforted by that fact. If anything, I think he's very much part of their defensive plan going forward and has improved on his DE%, particularly his kicking. It was only M1 so will watch with a keen interest to see if he can replicate this for M2.
Playing devils advocate, if Noble does start and has a bad game or two in rounds 2 and 3, he most likely gets dropped for Quaynor who has had a great preseason too. I liked the way Noble played in M1 and can see him as a lock, the only deterrent being lapse in consistency and form could cost him. What would people do then? hold or trade an expensive rookie that hasn't had a chance to moo yet.

If he looks like a bust early on, then there's plenty of outs: Young, Williams, Rivers, Starcevich for examples who debut may be delayed due to injury/form.

While not pretending to know anything about the Pies or their preseason in general, this was from the recent injury report

Quaynor underwent minor hip surgery and is believed to have battled soreness in the joint but is expected to return to full training shortly,

Isaac Quaynor Hip 1-2 weeks

I'm tending towards going "lighter" (from a premium perspective) in Def, trying to keep 5 premo mids and Gawn.

Noble, Ash, BZT, Mcasey, Roberton, Hill etc provide some expensive "rookie" options that don't seem to be there in other lines.
This is where I am heading I think, might sneak one premo def in

so in terms of corrective trades early, what's an acceptable number? I can see a few occurring.

I think many use 2 trades in Round 3 Professor for corrective trades , whether that is swapping 2 rookies or removing a premium that hasn't performed in the first 2 rounds , yes Mundy I am looking at you ?

Might well see a record this year from Naismith - > Gawn or maybe even the other way and Gawn - > Naismith

Agree to disagree, unless you think you have the perfect team by round 5, there is nothing wrong with recognising a mistake or missed opportunity over the first few rounds and taking decisive action, jmo.
If you've made a mistake you sit and think about what you've done and you let the punishment occur.

0. Your first trade should be made around Round 7.
Ok, I'm not singling you out mate but I am curious to know what the peoples views are on this who are regularly at the pointy end... When do they look to make first downgrades to bank some cash for upgrades? We have lots of guys who make top 1000 every year here. Personally I would've thought if your first trade is round 7 then you're probably already behind?

@All is Wells @Dimmawit @Impromptu @NT.Thunder @Damion23

I apologise to anyone else who feels they belong in the above company that I haven't tagged.. my memory is not photographic

I have a photographic memory, but I keep forgetting to put the film in (old school)

I've only played this game for one year, but to say 'no trades before round 7' is too dogmatic for my liking, there's just too many variable to take into consideration. LTI's, chasing BE's, role changes, rookie shuffling, MP adjustments. I will probably have made 6 trades at least by round 7, didn't make any trades going into the bye rounds and still managed to average over 2k pts over the MBR's.

Im pretty sure he's joking about not trading at all until then. I had a good chuckle when he said "if you've made a mistake you sit and think about what you've done and you let the punishment occur".

In all srsness, if you downgrade a rookie rd 5 youre probably sacrificing a little too much $$ wise. Round 6 or 7 seems about right for genuine one up, one down moves

Oh no worries. If those coaches first traded in Round 7 they'd have finished top 0 instead of the paltry achievement of winning the competition.
