I like your thinking of starting a dual position player that could be moved to another line later. something to consider.
That's just it, not sure if McGrath is worth starting. But why?
Good points but my memory of last years breakout midfielders were:
- Mitchell out so Worpel got the gig ... finished well but took a while to get going ...
- Doggies finally decided that Dunks is a midfielder ..... finished well but took a while for the coaching move to eventuate and almost blew their season in the process of delaying it ,...
- Possibly others that I've missed but I guess Hepp's will be out for a while so is he just a stop gap solution and does he have the tank to sustain it in that role ...
Worpel and Dunkley had role changes, so is McGrath going to have a role change.
RE:...…..does he have the tank to sustain it in that role...….
I can't see why not, he's played 62 games in 3 seasons and had a good preseason, but I don't know what his tank is like? I wouldn't be surprised if @THCLT has the answer

He looks to be clearly part of the their core midfield group through Marsh, whether that's by design or through missing personnel is another question. Got plenty of the ball but not quite the CP style of a Dunkley or Worpel. He's more outside than inside so less tackles as well.
He has every chance to improve on this output if the role sticks for this season, however, being MID only pretty much makes him irrelevant for SC purposes.
Assuming they will all end up on your final side, i would leave out bont. In my view he is the most likely to have a down game meaning he could be picked up at some point cheaper than the others (equally he could have a spike score seeing a big price rise just when you want to upgrade to him). Plus having all 3 doggies seems.... unnecessary? Not sure that's the right word tho
Ps haven't checked this is backed up by data, just going off what i recall from 2019.

Neale too expensive
Danger after his Bye
Mitchell wait and see
Fyfe , starting Kelly instead , so that would be just asking too much
Oliver stats suggest he will be better after his Bye
I guess you could have a case for starting any of the top 8-10 , with Grundy , Gawn & Whitfield I can fit 5 in , but looking at the rookie mids 4-0-7 might be the way to go
Kelly is least appealing to me on an individual basis given injury concerns.
On a portfolio basis I think you’d have to say one of the Dogs. I have Macrae and would select Bont over Dunkley, although many good coaches prefer Dunks and I can see why.

Thanks @THCLT, I respect your thoughts. There's one info I can't find, is McGrath's playing style suited for inside Mid, so you suggest that he is not, which adds another possible negative to not start him. If he had dual positions, then almost a lock for me, if.
By the way, a BIG for your summary of relevant Rookies who took part in the Marsh Series Community matches.
Quite often the reverse is true of players taking on the captaincy. Macrae and Dunkley clearly ahead of The Bont for me, he just doesn’t hit those 30+ disposal games enough IMO.
Dunkley had more 30+ disposal games last year after his midfield move than The Bont has had in the last 3 years.
Just to make it more confusing for you , I would leave J Kelly out until he proves to me that he is past being an injury risk. He is priced to average 117, that's pretty high. Sure, he could avg much higher, but also a risk to get injured.

Bombers watchers would be best placed to comment but from what I've seen of him, he doesn't quite have the physique to play that inside role (there's not many at Bomber land nowadays). I see him more of an outside player who they're looking to for his run and carry to break lines.

Personally I haven't considered McGrath from a SC perspevtive this year at all. I don't think he's quite ready to be SC relevant, will have some good games but I see him averaging around 90 ppg personally. His price is awkward with no real obvious signs of a breakout.
