Emergency Rule Change
  • Select up to THREE emergencies. Emergencies from your reserves (bench) list will replace up to three non-scoring players in your starting line-up in matching positions as selected on your team only. Where there are 2 emergencies selected in one position and only one of these is required, the lowest scoring emergency will be used. If both are required, then both will be used. Emergencies can simply be toggled on or off with a click of the Emergency button.
  • If no emergency is available/selected for a 0-scoring player in a certain position, you'll not receive any points from that player.
  • Emergencies scoring 0 or negative points will not be considered the 'lowest-scoring' and will not be used.
Point Scoring

** NOTE: Points are awarded based on the Starting 11 players from each match. A 12th man who takes part in a match will NOT be awarded any points.

Prizes

Round Prize: The Round Prize Winner will receive $500 (or $1,000 if the participant is a SuperCoach Plus subscriber during that BBL round and at the time that the participant is declared the round winner).

Competition Major Prize Winners:
  • 1st Place - $25,000
  • 2nd Place - $5,000
  • 3rd Place - 3,000
  • 4th - 11th Place - $1,000
I am disappointed they have changed the rule on the batting strike rate bonus. I much prefer the extra point for runs scored in excess of balls faced rather that strike rate ranges with a balls faced qualifier.

However I do like the ability to now select emergencies rather than the old auto emergency rule. Bring on the loophole.

Finally I see that they still can’t fix the anomaly where an on field zero counts (correctly) but an emergency zero that actually plays is ignored.

Question for the leadership group?

Would it be possible to maintain a separate thread that contains only posts that advise about player unavailability due to international commitments? These posts get hard to keep finding as the thread gets longer and then tend to be re-asked and re-answered several times.

I would suggest a locked thread that contains only posts moved there by a leadership group member.

I actually thought there might have been an unintended additional loophole here. A non-scoring player and a non-playing player are two different things (red text below) ... am I reading this incorrectly?

I hadn’t picked that up on first read however I think I would agree with you. The way this reads is that if you have a doughnut on field or as the nominated emergency then you could set another emergency and get that score counted.

However I have just read the rules on the websites (copied below) and it states specifically that on-field doughnuts will not be replaced with an emergency score. It is also silent on zero scoring emergencies which I would interpret as meaning it would count (ie not replaced by second emergency) but who knows.

HOW YOU'LL SCORE POINTS
  • Your Herald Sun KFC SuperCoach BBL squad is awarded points based on the real performances of the real players in each game, throughout the 61 match 2020-21 BBL|10 tournament.
  • Points are awarded based on player statistics as collected and provided by Fox Sports Stats.
  • Points scored by your team each round are based on the performance of the starting line-up of your 11 players for each round, including up to 3 selected emergencies to replace up to 3 players in your starting 11 (in matching positions only as selected on your squad), who don't play that round.
  • The remaining players on your reserves list don't add points towards your team.
  • NOTE that when a team plays TWICE in any given round, you receive the cumulative score for each particular player from BOTH matches in the same round. Similarly, you do not receive any points from players whose team does not play in any round.
EMERGENCY PLAYER SCORING
  • Selected emergencies will replace any non-starting player in matching positions only as selected on your squad.
  • Where there's more than one emergency selected in a certain position and only one is required, the lowest scoring emergency will be used.
  • If you have a 0 scoring player in a certain position and don't have an emergency selected in that position, you'll not score any points for that player.
  • Players who are actually named and in the starting 11 for any match AND score a 0 for any reason, will NOT be replaced by an emergency. Their 0 score will also have an effect on their value, being recorded as having played a game.

I am confused 🤔

The third dot point says if you have a bench player with the Emergency on them it will replace a onfield zero eg a donut.

The dot point below indicates if a player is actually named and therefore plays and gets 0 points their score won't be replaced by a Emergency , which is totally acceptable.

Easiest thing seems to be to just set a Emergency on each position available.

The way it reads to me you can still use a deliberate donut onfield for the VC/C loop option if required and then get the Emergency score (if set)

Otherwise what's the point of even having Emergencies if they can't replace a onfield DNP (which then refers to point 1 where they replace a non starting player)

Rashid Khan
Team: Adelaide Strikers
Price: $192,300

Prior year averages (courtesy of this wonderful thread by @THCLT - https://supercoachscores.com/threads/bbl-09-supercoach-bbl-useful-information.4287/):

BBL09: 67.2 from 15
BBL08: 71.1 from 14
BBL07: 73.8 from 11

Khan recorded his lowest avg ever in the BBL last season.
That middle clip in particular is a thing of beauty. Hands down my favourite player in the BBL.

That is pretty clear then, thank you - it’s just poorly worded in the text I included.

I see it's that time again... kind of!

Feel like everything is all speculation right now with so few confirmed names, no confirmed venues or confirmed draw, so no team for me just yet, feels kind of pointless.

I have been watching a lot of IPL though and since they're only using three venues for the whole tournament, I thought I'd test a hypothesis (two, really): since the pitches would invariably slow and tire, a) scores would go down and b) teams would look to get cheap overs out of part-time spinners. The first seems to have held, the second... not so much.

First innings averages:
Sharjah (til 11/10): 212
Sharjah (since 11/10): 161
Dubai (til 11/10): 179
Dubai (since 11/10): 165
Abu Dhabi (til 11/10): 169
Abu Dhabi (since 11/10): 152

I was also looking through for overs bowled by part-time spinners when I realised... not a lot of teams are even playing a sixth bowler. Capitals have Stoinis, Indians have Pollard, and Knight Riders kind of use Russell like one, but the only spinner being used in the way I'd imagined is Glenn Maxwell, and that's clearly a matchup thing in a Punjab side playing two legspinners.

Basically what I'm saying is I was trying to figure out if there was value in Renshaw or Cooper types if they'd effectively be all rounders but that doesn't seem likely. Especially with the ER bonus returning to activating at three overs rather than just two.

That middle clip in particular is a thing of beauty. Hands down my favourite player in the BBL.
I went to Heat vs Strikers at the Gabba last season, and even though Adelaide got clobbered the one thing that stands out from the day is this six Rashid hit off Ben Cutting. It made an absolutely perfect ping off the blade that I'm not sure I'd ever heard live before. And yes, that includes 15 or so years of playing myself! He's been the first pick in my team since he got here, absolute gun.
