my team currently is:

Mcdermott / Gilkes
D Short, Stoinis, Maxwell, Khawaja, Christian / Wilermuth + 42k bench player
Jacks, Coulternile, Milne, Behrendoff, Ur Rahman / Khan Ahmad

This team gives me a variety of guns and underpriced players but I feel I might need some more cash cows. I can probably downgrade one of my starters to a cheapie which is looking alright with Khan coming off my bench. This team gives me 3 DGRs for this week and 4 for next week but the only problem will be deciding who I trade for strikers next week.

Please give some feedback on this team
Certainly nothing wrong with the players you have picked , but as you have identified if you wish to bring in 3 more Hurricanes/Strikers for Round 2 most are high cost , so you would probably have to trade out the likes of Maxwell & Stoinis which doesn't seem ideal to me.

I guess if you are thinking of downgrading a starter to a cheapie , maybe you need to consider why start that starter in the first place ?

I guess it comes down to the balance of focusing on DGR players or starting SGR players.

Anyone else seriously considering not starting D'Arcy Short ?

Amazing how different your onfield & bench can look without him.

I guess the issue is then trying to workout how to bring him in for Round 2.

Been trying to estimate which of the all-rounder status players (Bat/Bowl) are likely to bowl three overs and bat in the top 6 ..... need 3 overs to get the economy rate bonus .... need some additional help on this !!

Only looking at players likely to start round 1:

- Short, D'Arcy .... usually good for 2 but 3 ??
- Nabi, Mohammad .... usually good for 2 but 3 ??
- Sams, Daniel .... should be fine but batting position can vary
- Maxwell, Glenn .... doesn't always bowl or bat ??
- Stoinis, Marcus .... usually good for 2 but 3 ??
- Cutting, Ben .... should be fine but batting position can vary
- Jacks, Will ... no idea but thinking good for 2 but 3 ??
- Renshaw, Matt .... usually good for 2 but 3 ??
- Prestwidge, Matt ... no idea
- Christian, Dan .... should be fine but batting position can vary
- Wildermuth, Jack ... no idea

Without going through all the squads, I would agree with much of the above. In rough order I would say that the most likely to fit your criteria would be Christian, Nabi, Stoinis and (this season) Short - although I don’t know much about some of the lesser lights.

One aspect to weigh up is how likely it is that these players earn an ER bonus anyway - some bowlers obviously generate more points from wickets than economy and vice versa, so if you’re picking a wicket taker it may not matter as much how those overs are distributed, so long as you get enough of them across the season/they occur at times when wickets are more likely to fall.

@Darkie

if their were no restrictions in selecting a starting team, this is what I probably would run with

Wade /Nielsen

Stoinis , Lynn , Khawaja , McDermott , Bryant / Wildermuth, Turner

Short , Rashid Khan , Meredith , Tye , Behrendorff / Stanlake , Ahmad

It is projected to be about 300 - 350 less than my DGR emphasis side, I wonder if picking SGR premiums to start you could catch these points up.
Just to check - by no restrictions, do you mean if (say) you had the same budget but didn’t know what the fixture was/there were no DGRs?

I’m assuming if there was no budget constraint you’d go for, say, Philippe over McDermott.

Still with $ 2 million.

No DGR to worry about , no OS players arriving late.

I think that side left me with about $ 20k spare.

Ah yes, availability makes sense too. I’ll take a look on that basis.

That type of approach (changing one or more of the restrictions and seeing what you’d pick) can be quite a good way to ensure you’re not torturing your side to reflect a restriction ... eg like trying to pick 16 keepers in a $10m budget, and they mostly end up being 95-105 types.

I don't mind it too much ... for the following reason:

- My rule of thumb last year was to start with no ENG bat only players as I don't believe they are well suited to most of our pitches early on ...
- No such issues this year so far with the probable delayed starts for most of them !!
- Of those starting the pitches don't seem to hold many demons (ACT and TAS) ...

But ... that has left the pool of players I'm looking at very thin .... the AUS-A tour match is the one that is screwing with what I'd like to start ... Neser, Pucovski, Green, Carey etc

Totally agree re the English batsmen and we probably need to be politically correct as Salt is Welsh 😀

Not sure sitting in a hotel room for 14 days twiddling their thumbs is going to be the ideal preparation though.

I think with the Bat only ones you can just wait for their price to drop them pounce (if needed).

Be interesting to see if Bowlers and Bat/Bowl is still the way to go with the new scoring system or if Bat only can come into play.

I think I am going to go back to my :-

4 Stars
4 Hurricanes
5 Strikers

plan and fill in the blanks with some cheapies

Carey is starting to get annoying as I want to know his starting price for my Round 3 trade plans.

Thanks for the reply ....

- Have had Nabi and DC both in my side when I did my initial draft but their respective DGR rounds means that I can probably bring them in later ....

Has anyone got a sense where Gotch will bat for the Stars?

I’m tempted due to his DGW but he could be a trap. Maybe I’m better off finding a keeper who opens to try and loop, and risk a cheaper player who bats and bowls.
Stoinis , Cartwright , Larkin , Maxwell , Dunk , Gotch would be my guess.

But if England's tour of South Africa is cancelled bye bye Gotch.

I am still not 100% clear on when Pooran is arriving either.

The majority of those will all Bat Top 6 (with the exception of Sams) but most will be the "extra" bowling option.

Pretty sure most teams last season played 5 specialist bowlers , Thunder probably played 6.

All depends on opposition and match ups as well eg Maxwell might bowl the first over then bowl again in the PP or not at all.

Read a article today that Lamichanne will be playing Big Bash but could be having a delayed start , said he would be playing for a new team.
Interesting ... haven't seen any leaks yet on who the new team could be ...

Have you considered looping Handscomb/McDermott then depending what they score you have the option of :-

Gotch/Dunk
Neilson 🍩
Gilkes/Holt

Has anyone else been completely burned by the Stars in their DGW every year? They do chop and change and usually the problem is their number 5 rarely gets a bat. However, this year it could be the opposite if Stoin, Maxy, Puckovski, Handscomb and Maddinson are all gone will they reach 100?
