Bancroft opening makes no sense anyway...but if it rains and DLS comes into it...not sure a run a ball innings from Bancroft will help them

Why disrupt 3 , 4 , 5 & 6 though when you lose a opener and can replace him with a opener ?

Allows everyone else to bat where they have all season.

Bancroft probably acts as the anchor , while everyone goes hammer and tong.
