Another move was made by my side last weekend which involved Jordan Clark leaving the Dagobah Immortals in exchange for my 2022 3rd round selection.

Thanks once again to @Bermi for a superb job and with the free agent draft coming very soon, he might end up receiving a more lucrative contract than the likes of P Dangerfield, T Boak and T Hawkins.

Preseason Draft and Signing Period

This is how I see the preseason draft and signing period playing out, however this isn't set in stone and will need to fit with individual availability.

The order of drafting and signing will be as follows:

1. Free Agents
  • There are 54 players who fit the criteria for the free agent auction draft.
  • This will run in the same manner as the top 60 in the inaugural draft.
  • Therefore, we will need up to 3 hours to complete.
2. Restricted Free Agents
  • There are 3 players who are eligible for the restricted free agent auction draft.
  • This will run in the same manner as the 2017 Rookie players in the inaugural draft.
  • This won't take very long. :)
3. 2nd Contract
  • Teams will need to determine whether eligible players will be retained.
  • Retained players will need to be signed before the Rookie and Unlisted Player Draft.
  • The signing process is the same as the 2017 Rookie players in the inaugural draft (i.e. predetermined contract table)
  • This process doesn't require all to be available.
  • There will be a set deadline
4. Trade and Delisting Deadline
  • Deadline to enable Rookie and Unlisted Player Draft doc to be completed.
5. Rookie and Unlisted Player Draft.
  • This will run in the same manner as rounds 19 onwards in the inaugural draft.
  • Teams must ensure that they stay within the contract year and salary caps at all times.
  • Up to 2 hours will be required.
Ideally, 3 - 5 are completed after the preseason games, so as to give us all as much information as can be garnered.
Step 1:
Can I clarify "run in the same manner" as prior years, as I am obviously unaware of how that played out in reality.
Eg: Dangerfield (presume bidding starts at $563,752).
Anyone can bid at this point, at any value at or above $563,752 for one year? It then simply becomes an auction, with each team having the ability to outbid each other? All you need to declare at this point in total salary and years, I would then bid $1.2m over 2 years? Next person can then bid $601k for one year, etc.

OR does this still apply:
"It is possible that teams may bid on more players than they can afford under the salary cap. For example, they may win 3 bids on players when they can only afford and/or want 1 players. The team can therefore take their preferred player and the other players go to the next highest bidder and so forth down the line. "?

First Question: Is this live bidding whilst all on Skype or blind bidding? Rules document seems to have both?

Second Question: If this player gets no bids above the starting bid price, they then enter Step 5 the Draft?

Step 5:
Is it the SCCKL price you are drafting a player at - Dangerfield $626,391?
Is it discretionary on contract years at this point - can lock in 1 year or 5?

Thanks @Goodie's Guns.

For some reason I had it in my head you could take on a player and restructure the salary (maybe over same contract length). Not sure why!

Can I also confirm there are no other rule changes discussed between all coaches?

@KLo30 made it clear you all discussed the Ruck 2 rule change before last year, is there anything else that was discussed / planned I should be aware of when structuring my team, or was this the only rule change floated? Noting: I have seen the drafted rule change requiring 4 rucks on your list to access the new rule.

Believe the only thing was the RUC one.
Additionally the minor change to the 2nd Year Salary calculation but that has had no impact given it was our first season and no one was yet to sign any 2nd Contract Players.

Unless there’s something I’ve missed, and Ken is able to highlight, I think that’s it.

Can I ask what this means within:

Salary Cap / Contracts Tab, under Fourth Contract: Free Agent (FA)

The signing periods will have a deadline. The bidding process will be open to view for all to see until the last hour. During the last hour "blind bidding" may occur. The blind bidding portal will be overseen by an independent commissioner, who will then publish the results to all teams. It is possible that teams may bid on more players than they can afford under the salary cap. For example, they may win 3 bids on players when they can only afford and/or want 1 players. The team can therefore take their preferred player and the other players go to the next highest bidder and so forth down the line.
Believe this is free agents, however I also believe they go to the live bidding draft. So I am interpreting one of these rules wrong.

Ignore. I've deleted. It's a live draft.

Last one I think!

SCSUL price?

In the "undrafted players" and "FA Auction Players" tabs I can see a SCCKL price, but no SCSUL price?

I presume these are the two pools of players the player draft is majority made up of.

For step 5 do I ignore the SCCKL price and just assume a small increase on SC price for the SCSUL price?

Player check:

Should someone like Duryea be a FA Auction player? Currently listed as an undrafted player at $416k?

I presume his limited season last year averaging 91 doesn't get included due to game count?
75 from the year before would still have him as an FA Auction player?

Doesn't really matter to be honest, just saves time on the Auctions - so makes sense to exclude someone like him!!

Edit: Looks like the undrafted players prices is based on 2019 average. His average in the 2020 column says 75.8, when that is his 2019 average.

Hi coaches, apologies for the delay in getting this post up, it's been a busy week for us both (bar being able to watch practice matches whilst at work ;)). Firstly, thank you everyone for your timely responses to the survey.

As it stands, the RUC requirements will remain the same for season 2021 as they were for our inaugural season (the 2020 season).
That is, teams are required to field 2 RUCs within their selected sides.

The majority voted in favour of the proposed rule change, with integration to take place after one or two seasons being the preference.

Based on the leagues consensus at the conclusion of the 2021 season we will again assess the RUC landscape going forward.
Furthermore, we will continue to explore all possible options if necessary, and come to an agreed solution with another years data and UL experience under our belts.

Thanks.
