Really intrigued by McEvoy next week, if we can get a nice clear indicator on him I think he can do what Marshall did. McEvoy as the #1 ruck has been a solid mid 90s guy for most of his career which is probably enough for the D6 who also provides ruck coverage.
listening to an afl podcast from Mitch Cleary, Clarko said that at 30 years of age, he couldn't see McEvoy rucking for a whole 22 games. He's trying to preserve his career as well as Gunston. Talked about Ceglar having his own injuries over the years. So expect both to be giving each other a chop out in the ruck.

I've tried a Flynn R2 team and while it makes your side look good (and I can't believe I'm saying this), it feels like I'm going in with too few rookies elsewhere. If I plump for an extra premium in the forward line, I end up with something like Dow at F6, meaning I can only take two of an abundance of rookie forwards, some of whom will make some good money.

If I go the mids instead, you get Heppel down at M6/7 and again I'm left feeling like I'm going to miss some top cash cows. Maybe I'm more bullish on some of these rookies than others but I think the side balances better with Grundy and Gawn.

Flynn still makes the same amount of money sitting at R3.

It's interesting seeing people now at least considering what a Flynn at R2 side would be like, I wonder if I'd get as negative reactions now as I did around two weeks ago when I first asked if people had looked at it as an option...

I'm still firmly on Gawn/Grundy, but I am keenly interested in seeing what sort of SC score Flynn manages this weekend. I know Hickey/Sinclair is probably one of the easiest opponents he will face and it is still just a practice match, but if he puts up decent numbers, I might be swayed. That extra 500-600K would be very handy.

Don't worry about Flynn @ R2 he could even be R1 if Meek is named Round 1 as well.

Thilthorpe , Fullarton , Treacy all in the mix as well.

Just read some encouraging things about Nyuon as well.

Forward rookies seem strong.

Divided opinions on the mid rookies.

Cheap defender rookies scarce as.

All the rookies might be in the ruck line.

Availability of rookies (and which line they are on) determine our final starting sides/structures.

You certainly were on the right track a few weeks ago , need to explore and look at all different options at this time of the season.

I think if Flynn scores a 70+ he definitely has to be considered even given who it is against.

The rucks might be some of the better cash cows but it looks like we have quite a few avenues this year going all the way up to Caldwell and Green. If cash looked really bare than 2 ruck cash cows might be essential as it would be $200k vs $0. But if it looks like $200k vs $150k plus our better captains option then I would take the lesser cash cow and not sacrifice the 2 most reliable captains.

Not unless you avoid Flynn as a cash cow and find a def/ruck floating donut there instead. Could do it later in the season I guess after Flynn has made money and been sold but you won't have the cover you want for a good third or more of the season. Bigoa Nyuon your only cheap ruck/def option (Richmond).

Just looking at all available options.

Not as sold on that many players between Ziebell & Heeney's/William's price to be honest (at this stage).

Will be interesting to see how the likes of Caldwell , Green , Harmes , Hately , Heppell , Sholl , Sier etc etc perform.

Mind you I currently have quite a few $ 200-225k players I am looking at (probably wrongly)

Certainly would be good having clear information about Darcy before committing to Meek.

Agree though losing one of Gawn/Grundy (let alone both) lessens your VC/C options although Collingwood's draw works in favour to possibly help if you did decide not to start Gawn.

Yeah, going in minus Gawn and Grundy is season suicide imo. Only way that comes off as a win is if both get injured.

R1 Gawn/Grundy
R2 Flynn
R3 Nyuon - > McEvoy in defence

or Meek R3 if Darcy is out for a extended time

or Treacy F3 (if named) - > Thilthorpe , Campbell (?) , Fullarton named Round 1

Plenty of combinations to explore

or crazy , crazy completely crazy

R1 Flynn
R2 Meek

Gawn or Grundy + D6 $ 123,900.00 rookie who may or not play (let's say Gould)

v

Flynn or Meek (?) + Premium Defender

also loose change

instead of speculating on $ 175k-$300k D5 & D6 that we may all have to do , go full premium in defence instead and field that $ 123,900.00 rookie on a different line.

Does Neale for eg provide a alternative VC/C to Gawn & Grundy.

I won't stop

Ziebell F1 forward line
R2 Rookie Ruck
M8 Rookie
D6 Butts , Cox or Ling

Bypass everyone in between $ 250-$ 450k

Ideally need 14-15 premiums from the start.

Will play around later and see what it looks like.

Can't see the point starting scrubbers at D5 & D6 if their are options available.

4 premium defence + McEvoy
Danger , Fyfe , Jelly , Boak , FHOF , Cripps , Caldwell
Grundy
the Ziebell F1 forward line

11-2-ZDID-5

If Meek is a option he becomes R3 , McEvoy becomes Williams/Duggan

Dow & Campbell can be downloaded to any number of 6-8 forward rookies mentioned

Aside from Caldwell & McEvoy , no one priced between Ziebell & Cripps so no speculative picks.
