Is there some value to get with Sebastian Ross ?
Why did he drop so much last year - is that related to a role change ?

Ross became the saints main tagger (I recall he did some great shut down jobs on a few guns last year) which freed up Steele to become a ball winning/ more offensive mid (whilst still being a tackling machine) which was a great move by Ratten.

Pushed out of the main midfield rotation by Steele and Jones predominantly but also smatterings of Billings, Gresham and Hanners throughout the season.

Don't see anyway that changes with Crouch just another name in the way.

Ultimately Ross is slow and a poor ball user, great ability to find it but I wouldn't be surprised if he gets pushed right out of their best 22 this year with Clark also moving into the midfield most likely.

Question is, can he maintain that spike in average or regress a bit. Had him in my team early, but not atm.
I think North in general have me worried - they could very well be in for another poor season with regular thrashings, so that might limit the game impact-driven scaling to any stand-out midfielders on their side of the ledger.

The other thing that bothers me with Simpkin is how easily he was tagged out of games last year, so in games where North may actually be competitive against their opponent I can see him copping another solid tag in situations where one might normally expect him to have a better chance of scoring well.

Hopefully with a fit Cunnington, Anderson he's not the only one that gets the tag. Would like to see another stretch of games from him to ascertain where he's at, probably not a top 10 mid this year.

What do we think of Brayshaw?

A bit of a changing of the guard at Freo with Walters and Fyfe to play a bit more forward nowadays.

Hopefully no more really short turnarounds so his TOG will hopefully improve (with his age it should keep improving anyway).

Is a tackling machine but doesn't really impact the scoreboard, does want to be a little more aggressive this year.

Just joined the leadership group as well.

I can really see him taking the next step this season.

I'm considering him, but if you were to consider Brayshaw you surely have to take Dunkley too right?

Fremantle's midfield congestion is every bit as bad as the doggies

Fyfe - Bont
Mundy - Macrae
Serong - Treloar
Cerra - Smith
Tucker - Libba

And then finally Brayshaw - Dunkley, and that doesn't even include Blakely and Walters.

How can you have any confidence in Brayshaw getting the necesary midfield minutes? FWIW, in the 3 games where Fyfe didn't play, Brayshaw averaged 127.33, I guess it depends on how likely Fyfe is to continue miss games?

Dont have the balls to pick him. In that range I have Cripps, and maybe Walsh. In my Fantasy team I've locked him in since I care less for that format.

If his time on ground improves, and his cbas from the practice game convert into season, then I can see him going 105-110. His PPM is already fairly high. His draft profile lists endurance as one of his biggest strengths yet his TOG has been crap since drafted. I watched half of the Freo vs WC game and he kept bobbing up everywhere around the ground in general play, he plays noticeably hard at all stages of the game.

Can’t recall a preseason where it’s been so difficult to try and predict the top 8 mids. Im
still constantly chopping and changing my top liners daily.
Agree

Walsh who is in my side, did he benefit from Cripps down last year. Problem is the lack of funds and who to go to.

Fyfe I struggle with, brought him in and then traded out last year around injury. Problem is when he gets injured his time forward goes to 70pct. His hamstrings cannot handle 60- 70pct mid time and he doesnt score 110 when forward.

Prior year I carried him for 6 weeks and then he went forward as well.

In a season where our starting premiums have a level of overpriced, our teams are going to be stretched to be completed. Eliminate all injury risk players in my view incl Williams, Kelly etc.

Will look to bring in these players if needed in closing 1/3 of the season.

Seems about normal to me. There's always a few who come in/drop out each year. Neale, Oliver, Kelly, Macrae you can lock in. The rest you can monitor over the first 7 weeks for upgrade season.

I've sat down and tried to work out who I think will be the top 8 mids for the season but my god it's difficult.

Neale looks #1, but beyond that you can throw a blanket over Oliver/Steele/Trac/Bont/Macrae/Fyfe/Cripps/Zerrett/Jelly/Titch. I find it really difficult to pick a few of these guys so I'm finding I end up chasing the upside in Walsh/Rowell types rather than forking out top dollar for more than one super elite.

Cripps has been the only one to sit in every single one of my drafts as I think he offers genuine top 8 potential for just 520k.

I took Neale out of my team a couple of weeks ago, 2nd guessing now. Thought paying top dollar, injury concern, more midfield rotations with new mids, spending more time forward.

One thing I remember from the start of last year was his focus on improving his game and getting forward and having a scoring impact. Haven't looked at the stats, but he did have a couple of games where he had multiple goals. So now, I wait to see how he looks before deciding to bring him back in again. Now with plenty of forward rookies, I could 0-0-8 up forward to get him in.

My current draft has me essentially deciding between Neale/Mills vs Lloyd/one of the many 620k types I've listed above. I'm sat on Neale/Mills for now as I like Mills upside, and Neale does feel a very safe pick albeit fully priced.
