It’s a curse I did not know about until Daniher moved and has looked this way in preseason. The truth of it has only become apparent to me now but here’s what I propose:

The dark lord Leigh Matthews ensured nearly 20 years of pain at the conclusion of which he would inflict a chronic injury on our best player , which would make him grow disgruntled and unhappy, knowing he would then be driven to his team the Brisbane Lions, just as they re-emerged as a contender. Upon leaving Essendon, Leigh Matthews with his powers of wizardry would remedy the injury so Joe could be free and play at his best again for his beloved Lions.

But the reason for our decline and struggle has now been made clear to me - witchcraft.

It’s comforting to know that we haven’t been losing and mucking up, but the defeats, the ASADA scandal, the finals win drought, the poor use of draft picks and free agency, and moving our training facility to the airport, isn’t our fault but a matter of black magic at the hands of Leigh
if only that smurf was wearing some black....

Structuring of side continues to rely on # of cheap rookies.

Currently 12 premiums and debating Merrett @ M4 or Rowell/Cripps to save some money.

Defender - D5-8 - L Young Cox Ling Kozzi

Mids - M7-11 - Berry, Downie, Gulden, Smith and Brockman

Forwards F5-8 Cahill Rowe Spicer and Waterman

Thoughts on these rookies, unrealistic or not?

Don't have Dow, Daniher currently, although a downgrade of Merrett would only see one of these come in.

You don’t think Highmore makes it for Round 1?

I’m hoping that one of Jones or Highmore gets selected.

Your other selections all look like they have a reasonable chance of being selected I think. Of the forwards there may other choices also but not sure how well they will score. E.g Jones from the Bombers.

In my experience skimping on rookies ends in tears

I can’t see Zach being such a crucial pick that’s he’s worth skipping those obvious picks you mentioned.

I’d just switch, stop fighting it and move on

Thanks.

Think Highmore is 50/50 and with Frawley around and coaches comments of it varying with opposition, he doesnt look secure.

Had Jones in the team, bot sure where he fell out. Back in for Spicer.

Rookie Stocktake

This season we have very little info to use with regards to which rookies are most likely to play round 1. We obviously have just one game for each team during the AAMI Community Series.

I believe the rookie priced players priced $207,300 and below that are most likely to play round 1 are the players who played at least 50% TOG in their Community Series match. So here is a list below which shows their position, price and their SC score in brackets. I will add to the list in separate posts as the weekend progresses.

DEF

N Cox $175,800 (32)
J Koschitzke $123,900 (130)
T Highmore $117,300 (47)

MID

T Powell $153,300 (57)
T Downie $117,300 (40)

MID/FWD

P Dow $202,400 (54)
T Brockman $117,300 (80)

FWD

Ruscoe $206,800 (26)
C Nash $193,400 (64)
Bosenavulagi $175,500 (38)
N Cahill $161,200 (52)
O Henry $135,300 (7)

With Trew being named as on bench for today’s game.. does anyone think that maybe the penny has dropped that we always get smashed at the coal face.. any chance he can stay in the team?

He's been pretty impressive so far apparently. Looking forward to seeing him get his shot today. Has a big point to prove to every team that passed on him, nice clean hands and uses the ball well... Importantly he wins his own ball.

I reckon we got a real steal. Wouldn't surprise me to see him get games this year.

Looking forward to seeing what Winder can add to the mix as well.

We need him winning the contested ball I think, I wish it was Yeo instead but unfortunately it won’t be for a while

Actually wasn't too far off...
https://www.sen.com.au/news/2021/03/07/haul-puts-young-hawk-in-round-1-mix-recruit-impresses/

Hawthorn youngster Jacob Koschitzke has put his name firmly in the mix for a Round 1 debut.

Koschitzke, 20, kicked six goals in the Hawks’ 39-point win over North Melbourne in the AAMI Community Series at Arden Street on Saturday.

The third-year Hawk is the cousin of 200-game Saint Justin and has been switched forward ahead of the 2021 season after being drafted as a defender.

“Jacob played an important role for us last week against the Bulldogs but didn’t score a goal, today he kicked six and could have kicked a couple of others,” Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson said post-game.

“It’s hard not to pick him when he has kicked six goals but we will wait and look at what the balance of the side is and look at what Essendon do with the balance of their side.

“Kicking six goals in the last trial game doesn’t hurt, you are putting your hand up for selection.”
