Who has the better JS?

Leon Cameron the last couple of years has dropped rookies despite them playing decently, I couldn't trust him myself.

Then you read comments like this on Campbell :-

“We like what Braeden can deliver off half-back and through the midfield, just because of his kicking,” John Longmire said recently. Co-captain Josh Kennedy was just as excited about the draftee, saying on Melbourne radio that Campbell will “have a pretty immediate impact either in the midfield or half-forward/half-back”.

Along with reading training reports stating that in game simulations the swans players were trying to give the ball to Campbell at every opportunity/ he was playing almost a quarterback type role .... I know which rookie I prefer ;)
Ok you've talked me out of that thought process quite quickly. My thinking is just that I don't like paying such a big price for a 190k rookie who isn't going to get midfield time, but maybe like Bomber says, HB is almost as good this year.

The 57 DT score is still a slight concern for me.

I'm thinking about picking Bruhn if he's named in round one instead of Campbell to free up some cash. I'm not entirely convinced Campbell is worth paying 189k for and I've been burned in the past when picking expensive mids who don't get midfield time. He scored 85 in SC versus 57 in DT despite playing a relatively DT friendly game, which strikes me as somewhat unsustainable. 4 goals from Bruhn is also unsustainable (completely, in fact) , but I am attracted to his cheaper price and liked what I saw and he could win more disposals in an other game.

That extra bit of money combined with downgrading Macrae to Bont allows me to turn Taranto into Dusty at M6, which just makes my whole side safer.
Bruhn's role was terrible for mine. He's scored 62 with 4 goals against one of the weakest sides in the league in a game they were on top for large parts. He's playing the role that Daniels, Lloyd, Hill and Langdon have managed 50.4/43.2/56.4/55.8 in respectively. He's essentially the lowest rung on the ladder for targets as a small forward.

I think he actually looked good but he's near the bottom of the rookie picks for mine with his premium price and the role he's playing in a side that is still pretty strong and has a lot of names to come back in. He might tear it apart but that role is a notorious death spot. Also have to think he's managed a bit coming back from an ACL and no footy in a year.

Campbell's role and SC was on point, it's hard to understate how good his left foot is. His role is opposite of Bruhn, pure SC role in a side that's probably not very good and even if they are good likes to start from the back half (You heard of that Lloyd guy?). Campbell is in the Heppell/Rich level of rookie class for mine and honestly will be a bit disappointed if he's not a 70+ guy while I think Bruhn would do well to be a 60+ guy.

Job security alone I think justifies the premium to Campbell but scoring potential should slam dunk it.

Can understand a 123k or below rookie that you rate highly over Campbell but 30k is 5 points difference, that's not much, imo.

haha yeah I was only briefly thinking with that line of thought, been chopping and changing and thinking a lot about SC today and went a bit bananas with some ideas, afraid that was one of them.

So once again, the rookies have appeared.

We even have backline rookies with Butts, Cox, Murray, Highmore & Kozi + expensive cows in Fantasia & Clarke.
For the first time in years, even I was worried up until a week ago.

You can definitely say they've appeared when the teams get released.

You're just hoping the appearance wasn't a mirage, which is a completely separate issue! :p
You can definitely say it!

I am planning my team based on the assumption that it is a mirage. I think any other year Butts and Cox at 160k+ would be laughed out of the RMT, and not just because of their names. I will be trying most avenues to avoid picking them. I have been wrong about this kind of thing many times before though.

I reckon Butts might score ok. Adelaide backline going to see more ball than every other team bar North.
Can't say the same about Cox..

We will know soon enough but I feel spoilt for choice with fwds & most have dpp mid.

I'm picking those two solely as captaincy options, so I can announce my plans as "Cox into Butts".

Might be a silly question but...does everyone still have Will Phillips from NM in their sides? Was hyped up in the pre-season but it looks like he hardly played at all in the match over the weekend. I feel the 198k price tag is a bit pricey. Keep or remove him?

Also, is L.Jones from Port Adelaide a must have? I'm worried that he won't score well in that Port team for some reason.

Phillips unlikely to start round 1, remove him. Jones is also unlikely to play round 1. Would also remove him.

Check out Ben's post #447 in this thread for a quick summary.

Rookie Stocktake

This season we have very little info to use with regards to which rookies are most likely to play round 1. We obviously have just one game for each team during the AAMI Community Series.

I believe the rookie priced players priced $207,300 and below that have the greatest chance of playing round 1 are the players who played at least 50% TOG in their Community Series match. So here is a list below which shows their position, price and their SC score in brackets.

Made some notes where I saw it necessary.

DEF
J Koschitzke $123,900 (130)
J Butts $176,800 (70)
T Highmore* $117,300 (47) Replaced the injured Frawley and is a chance for round 1
N Jetta $186,300 (43)
N Murray $102,400 (39)

DEF/MID

H Sharp* $117,300 (52) 45% TOG but replaced the injured Rayner and is a chance for round 1
L Young $202,000 (50)

DEF/FWD
N Cox $175,800 (32)
K Briggs* $123,900 (81) May miss round 1 if Flynn is fit

MID
E Gulden $117,300 (77)
T Bruhn $157,800 (62)
T Powell $153,300 (57)

B Campbell $189,300 (85)

A Scott $102,400 (79)
P Dow $202,400 (54)
J Bowey* $117,300 (31) Replaced the injured Lockhart and although he had more than 50% TOG, he's unlikely for round 1

FWD
