With Downie unlikely I either take a punt on McNeil, hope for E Smith or swing Scott to the mids & put H Jones on my fwd bench.

Need to do some research on McNeil - I do worry about his role from what I saw in the preseason game. Jones is the safer bet but never like picking young key position fwds as they inevitably are slow burners (like King last year).

Harrison Jones? Anyone got more insight into this guy
In the practice game I saw him play, he is very athletic for a tall fwd/ does need a few preseasons in the gym but you could see the talent. Took a couple of nice marks & a nice goal kicking style, looked very natural.

Here is his draft profile :-

Tall forward who is very lightly built, so has massive upside physically. He has a safe set of hands overhead and he presents well as a marking target up forward. He is an accurate set shot for goal and showed this skill with four goals in a Vic Metro trial game in April. He then played all four games for Vic Metro in the 2019 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships averaging 9.2 disposals, 3.2 marks and a goal a match. He has been a highly promising player all year, playing College football at Essendon Grammar and in the NAB League with the Calder Cannons.

King ended up being a good rookie last year.

(this was posted on doggies site yesterday?)

Mature-aged recruit Anthony Scott will make his AFL debut on Friday night.

The 25-year-old was signed only a couple of weeks ago by the Western Bulldogs, as part of the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period.

He had been training with the Bulldogs from the start of the year.

Bailey Dale told Scott in front of teammates on Wednesday that he would be running out onto the MCG against Collingwood in round one

Scott to hit the main stage
Our newest recruit, Anthony Scott, is poised to debut on Friday night against Collingwood at the MCG.
Scott is a product of the Footscray VFL program and won the best and fairest in 2019, before being elevated to the vice-captaincy for 2020 before the season was cancelled.

He has slotted in seamlessly as part of the AFL program this season, featuring in a scratch match against Hawthorn, before picking up 14 disposals and two goals against Melbourne in the AAMI Community Series match.

“It’s pretty overwhelming, but it’s what I’ve always wanted to do and what I’ve worked so hard to do, so it’s pretty gratifying now to know that an opportunity is now there for me,” Scott said after his elevation to the AFL list in late February.

“Because I’ve been working for so long for this chance, I definitely won’t take it for granted.”

A versatile player, Scott has been used predominantly in defence this pre-season.

In the VFL in 2019, he showed his class as a goal-kicking midfielder, with 19 majors in 18 games.

Scott is one of four players from the Bulldogs’ VFL program currently on the AFL list, alongside Will Hayes, Ryan Gardner and Mitch Hannan.
