First game of he year. It’s a long season. Cripps at M8 after the byes will be good. Still think he goes 105+. Game is moving faster now with less stoppages, will need a few weeks to get up to speed. Made some good tackles which give me confidence.

Need to remember how much we paid for him too I think.

I've read a fair bit here from posters who saw the game - thanks so much for the insights.

The main guy I'm interested in season long is Walsh: great tank undoubtedly but did he look damaging to the eye? 32 disposals for 120 odd is good, but not amazing. Sure, it's not Gaff and Matt Crouch territory who on those numbers barely scrape 100, but neither is it in the land of the really damaging mids.

Compare him with someone like Bont who since 2019, when getting 30 or more possessions, has averaged 143. Do we think Walsh will be able to accumulate his way to a 110 average? Or will the down games with 24 disposals for 85 points drag him?

Well there it is, Downie announced with the other two. At least we’ll know tonight whether he’s in the 22 or as part of the emergencies and then the sub.

Surely it's too cruel to give a young player his first game as a medical sub? He might not get any minutes.

I don't think comparing him with Champion Data's lovechild is a fair comparison

I think Walsh would've had 140+ quite easily if he just cleaned a couple of his disposals. Looked really good imo

Sounds like it’s just a “Pulled up sore” thing though. Who knows what that mean, a week, a month? We all know how these shenanigans work 😂

Berry is tempting though, plenty of opportunities in our midfield, could be very SC friendly!

After having a night to think about it i'm okay with Cripps, he showed he can still be elite in that first half and was underscored for it imo. But he also only cost 523 thousand - if he becomes a solid m7/8 at 105 then thats easily a good pick to me. This doubles when you factor in that there is/was a huge upside in picking him and he could go 110+.

Unless the Hawks players are being told lies by the selection committee, I’ve just had it confirmed again today that Downie is going to be the sub.

To be hoenst, it shouldn’t catch anyone out as we’ll see him named either as one of the 4 EMGs tonight or in the 22.

Yeah, not much to go on after one game. Long season. He's also an easy downgrade to a Heppell or Rowell et al. if he flops and one of them goes well. Only problem there is how many correction trades you need elsewhere. I think he'll be alright.
Interesting to see what happens with Williams in...

Means that other clubs may announce debutants only for them to be the sub too. So as an example we forego a rookie named on field playing on Saturday only to have our selected rookie end up being a sub on Sunday as the Sunday team hasn't been announced yet at the time our Saturday rookie plays. Our Saturday rookie that we were going to pick gets locked out and we're stuck with the Sunday player who ends up being the sub, possibly even on the field on occasion.

These subs and the teams being announced the night before is a nightmare for SC.

I didn't pick Cripps and was kicking myself at half time. Felt better by the end of the game. But if you have him, I wouldn't worry. He was in absolute beast mode in that first half. Just running through tackles, dishing off, hitting targets. Doing all the things he's built for. I couldn't really tell where he was playing in the second half but it was certainly clear he'd gone missing. Picked up a bit in the final.

It may be that the cap on interchanges is going to mean that players will be used in bursts. He was certainly playing that way in the first half. I actually said to the guys I was with at the game at quarter time that this style of play will not be sustainable for four quarters. Probably bodes well for the Bulldogs with so many midfield options

And equally you know this means Clarko is gonna make sure he gets into the game come what may. Especially after what we saw last night. This has disaster written all over it.

So players with good endurance will get bigger bursts to score more points and players, like Cripps, with low endurance will get less bursts to score less points.
