ROUND 8 REVIEW

R8 Results.jpg

Match of the Round

TailsPower v GV Vikings FFC Tick.jpg
Prediction: TailsPower to continue his early domination of the PL and win by 43
Result: It was predicted to be a battle of the heavyweight's, and it didn't disappoint. Coach Ashley's team threw everything at TailsPower but ultimately came up a little short. A couple of poor rookie scores from Robertson & Mansell and a poor showing by Dusty really hurt the Vikings. Whilst Coach Adrian's Team was generally really strong across the board even despite a poor game from Walsh. TailsPower powering to a fifth straight league win.

Other Matches

Beasts FC v Blaze of Glory Cross.jpg
Prediction: Beasts FC to get a much needed win in a close one by 21

Result: An extremely close match here, these are the one's you hate to lose. Was predicted to be close and it was. You usually win as a team lose as a team... But Coach Ben can rightfully put this loss on just one of his troops in Tex Walker. A truly pathetic effort by Tex cost his team a shot at the win. Coach Tom's side was strong across the board and little Jimmy Rowe came through big time for him. With Blaze of Glory taking his third win of the last 4 matches.

PC v Ricky Bobby X
Prediction: Ricky Bobby to grab the win in a nail biter by 15
Result: The very definition of a nail biter... What a great match. It all came down to the last match and Coach Jack chasing down a total. And his boys didn't let him down even despite a poor game from Brayshaw. A huge Sunday performance by Coach James' Bontempelli was not enough to get him the win. He'd be a bit gutted knowing the victory was there for the taking. A second consecutive loss by less than 30 points is hard to take for Ricky Bobby.

The Darkness v MADMUNZA Cross.jpg
Prediction: MADMUNZA looks just a little stronger this week and should get the win by about 78
Result: Coach Matt's side came into this one looking strong, but most of his POD's where not up to the task this week. He would have been expecting a lot more from his troops. Coach Adrian however, Would be stoked with the performance of his team, Big efforts from Docherty, Lloyd and Daniel saw him stroll away to a needed win. A third loss in a row for MADMUNZA however sees his team needing a response next week.

Courtesans v Goodie's Guns Cross.jpg
Prediction: Really tough one to tip but Goodie’s Guns for the win by 19 points

Result: Coach Keith's troops just keep getting the job done, week after week. A huge 10 POD's in this one could have seen this go either way, Huge games from Mitchell and Taranto where the difference makers in the end. Coach Tim's team performed well, but slightly poor performances by Key Defenders Ridley & Stewart didn't help his cause. That's 5 wins in a row for Courtesans, I don't know who can stop this man!! Going to be very hard to beat.

Pay The Mark v Jibrangers Tick.jpg
Prediction: Jibrangers to prove too strong and win by 63 points
Result: Another match with a huge amount of POD's (12). Coach Sho's team just had a bit more class across the board. Coach Mark just seems to be a player or two away from having a really strong side. The wins will come for him. The Jibrangers with their second win in a row and a building block to get his season back on track.

Philzsay v Jaca's Attackers Tick.jpg
Prediction: Jaca’s Attackers to get back on the winner’s list by 50 points
Result: Was predicted to be a 50 point win for 2019 Champs, and a 53 point win it was. Big games from Docherty, Merrett and Daniel powering Coach Jason to a much needed win to stop a four game losing streak. Coach Phil's team was pretty good, but poor showings from guns Martin & Walsh really hurt his chances. He started the season on fire with three wins, but that is now three successive losses for Team Philzay. They must respond this week.

Brownie's Bandits v Rons Badboys Tick.jpg
Prediction: Rons Badboys to prove too strong and win by 49 points
Result: A late change with Liam Duggan withdrawing, saw the prediction change in this one. And the bookies proved correct with Coach Iain's team now in free fall. That's three losses from the last 4 games now and his team appears easy picking for all. Poor showings from new recruits Collier-Dawkins and May would not be what was wanted. Coach David however would be stoked with the effort his team gave, Huge games from Bontempelli & Taranto powering him to a good win. Now to build on it and string a couple of wins together.

SuperCoachScores v Diabolical Rabble Cross.jpg
Prediction: Diabolical Rabble’s strong midfield to prove a little too strong and win by 66 points
Result: Predicted to lose again, Coach Jay's troops sure did come out to play this week. Posting a league high score for the round, Nearly every one of his troops fired, leading his team to a third consecutive win. It was very impressive. Make no doubt about it... The Champ is well and truly back. Coach Andrew just has to chalk this up to one of those weeks. His effort this week would have got the win against any other team, so he shouldn't look too much into this loss. An unlosable match against the easybeat Bandits awaits next week.

A poor 4/9 Predictions this week. Need to reassess and see what went wrong.

@Lost In The Sky great write-up again, but looks like your tipping was nearly as bad as mine last week ;)

@Tails congratulations on your win, considering I had a 43 (from Mansell) and 44 (from Roberston), I'm actually suprised I got any where near your score this week, let alone only losing by 19 points, my team is a bit of a Rabble at the moment :sneaky:

I actually thought you had me beat this week after the first few games Ash ... and thus only checked out our H2H match up during the last game of the round ... was surprised to see that I was still a chance ...

Neither of us had a great week but I'll humbly take any close wins in this comp ...

ROUND 9 PREVIEW

Round 9 and LiTS has passed the baton onto me for my first write up of 2021. I am going to flat out copy some of his fine work but apologise in advance for not providing the same level of wonderful detail he does. My initial thought was that I could name the pods for each team (without the whole fancy table thing) but when I looked at the first match up between Beasts and Tails I found they have 12 pods each! My second thought was stuff that for an idea. So it won't be as pretty but what does that matter when you get the facts. And that is what I will bring you - cold, hard, facts. Anyho, let's get on with it...

Fascinating time of the season, with the PL ladder starting to separate after last round.
  • The top two teams on 20 points - Tails and Court will be looking at locking down the advantage they now have.
  • 3rd-5th with 16 points - three coaches that are breathing slightly easier but dreading a loss.
  • 6th-13th on 12 points - this big group of coaches will be riding every pod this week and hoping they can get the win.
  • 14th-16th on 8 points - things starting to get tougher for these three coaches but with a good win they could be in the 8!
  • 17th and 18th with a single league win - these two teams may be sitting low on the ladder but are definitely not out of it.

I must say some of the teams on this ladder would be cursing their ill fortune. GG and Jaca in particular would be wondering which black cat they kicked through a mirror, given their solid overall rank but poor ladder placing. Philzsay would also be thinking that he deserves to be higher. On the flipside (isn't there always one of those...) Courtesans and the D Rabble probably have crossed fingers, toes, eyes, arms and legs in a human pretzel type arrangement in the hope that their current good luck holds with their ladder spot.

There seems to be a general feeling of joy and optimism across the supercoach land by the return of Highmore, following too many rounds in the deep dark wilderness of the VFL. GG definitely scored the rep points with his early news on the return, so we can probably say he is leading the round so far. But back to general joy and optimism. I just can't help but think that will be short lived, it is still Thursday after all and Sunday is three long sleeps away. We all know Sunday only brings happiness and fun to our supercoach lives...

Match of the Round

The Darkness v GV Vikings FFC
The Darkness v GV Vikings FFC gets the nod this week for match of the round. Similar overall rankings and a top 8 face off. Coach Ash would be disappointed with a 20 odd point loss last week (and having to face another Coach Adrian), while Coach Adrian will be quietly satisfied with a 100 odd point win. The Vikings will need some good old fashioned pillage play after Ryan sits out another week and the big Texan is 'managed' this round. Team Darkness will be enjoying the thought of some strong backline action with the Riddler and Seagull. Loads of rookie spuds love in both teams should give some loops to play with.
Prediction: The Darkness to cause the Vikings all sorts of headaches and get up by in a smashing 142 win

Other Matches

Beasts FC v TailsPower
On paper this looks very one sided - Coach Adrian has the ladder spot and the overall ranking. But Supercoach is now played on the computer and no longer on paper. You can never keep a good coach down and no one has been able to tame this beast. Who I am kidding. Sorry BB but...hmmmmmm, this could be closer than it looks. Some good pods on both sides that could go big on their day - Coach Ben with Mitchell, Short, Zerrett, Freoshaw, Laird, while Tails has Stewart, Taranto, Fyfe, Walsh and Doc.
Prediction: Really unsure about this one but picking Beasts FC to finally break the losing streak and win by 8

PC v Blaze of Glory
It is bad juju to pick oneself as a winner, but equally playing the underdog card early is taking the easy way out. Let's use some cold, hard, facts to break this blasted internal conflict.
  • PC prems - Impey, Bowes, Walsh, Doc
  • Blaze prems - Zorko, Short, May
Interesting. Is Impey a true prem you ask? Well, I hope so! That said, either side's three prems could be good enough. Both Coach Tom and Coach Jack were able to squeeze a close win last round. Whose luck runs out first?
Prediction: BoG to be bog and get over the line by a (disappointing) 23

Courtesans v Ricky Bobby
Coach James would be still smarting at the 5 point loss to Team PC last round, while Coach Keith is riding the winning wave with a nice breeze at his back. Both coaches want this win of course, Ricky Bobby might need it a bit more to make sure he stays in touch with the top 8. Plenty of pods in both teams but looking pretty even really. Court has some potential firepower in Seagull, which RB sees via a Bont play. Tough to know where the finally scores will fall.
Prediction: Courtesans to continue his winning ways by 37

Pay the Mark v MADMUNZA
Disappointing probably doesn't cover Coach Mark's season so far, really tough to swallow some of the luck the has had to so far. Comes up against Coach Matt this week who is a super solid performer in Premier League matches. Pods are where it is at and Team MADMUNZA has some quality with Steele, Short, Macrae, Zerrett and Walsh. Pay the Mark is a little short of cash and is only able to lay Seagull, Mitchell, Phillips, Jelly and Heppell on the counter. Going to be another tough week for Coach Mark and I am not sure he can do it.
Prediction: MADMUNZA to do what he does and win in an emphatic way by 109

Philzsay v Goodie's Guns
A pair of SCS royalty in this match and I am sure there are loads of high quality 'mod tips' being traded in the lead up. GG has really set himself apart this season by becoming the SCS very own ITK member. Philzsay, well Philzsay is just an excellent fella. Enough with the pleasantries, PL is about blood and glory not being friends and stuff. Wow, look at those rankings, only a 100 odd places different, almost at 'match of the round' levels, no I have already done that, move on. Ok, pods - Coach Phil with a Jelly and Dusty v Coach Tim with a Stewart and Zerrett (ever heard of 'group speak' concept?!). So it will come down to the rookies then, too many variables there so I am going to guess.
Prediction: GG to climb the ladder a little and win by 18

Rons Badboys v Jibrangers
What has happened to Coach Sho this year? The fall from grace compared to last season has been fast and bruising. Doc has also had a tough season so far although is tapping on the door of the PL top 8. Both coaches have plenty of time to turn things around, perhaps this could be the week to start? So many pods (15) between the teams but Supercoach gold has the Badboys winning by 2 points. Guess the random number generator wasn't as random this week? Going to be an interesting match.
Prediction: The Jibrangers to start their climb up the ranking ladder with a 43 point win

SuperCoachScores v Jaca's Attackers
Has Coach Jay got his mind on the game? You had better believe it, and we're not talking about soccer either. Not a bad looking team there SuperCoachScores, not sure how your ranking is where it's at. Jaca has found some form of a season of yore and is playing well, not that his spot on the PL ladder would tell you that. Coach Jason will be wanting the win to stay in the hunt for PL finals (never too early to talk about them). Once again, there are too many pods (14) between the teams to have a good stab at what might happen in the match. Flip a coin time.
Prediction: Jay to cause Jaca some more frustration and win by 26

Diabolical Rabble v Brownie's Bandits
Half the overall ranking and in the top bit of the PL should have Coach Andrew as the strong favourite in this match. Coach Iain would be hoping that is wrong and that he can start to get his season back on track with a win. An even looking pod list between the teams, with both thinking they have the goods to get the points. Probably comes down to who is missing and Tex out for the Bandits could mean a double downgrade is harder to make, does that help or hinder? Team DR has Steele and ScottishSuitcase which just feel like they might tip it in his favour. I am going to reuse a tip from last week...
Prediction: Diabolical Rabble’s strong midfield to prove a little too strong and win by 66 points

Trade Round Up Round 8

In's & Out's.jpg

Trade Observations...

1. Coach decided it's never too late to join the Jarman Impey Owners Club
2. Coaches would be disappointed at new recruit Andrew Brayshaw's first game for them with just a 70
4. Coaches gave Errol Gulden the flick
5. Coaches went a week early on Riley Collier-Dawkins
6.
Coaches picked up Nathan Murphy only to see him get concussed
7. Coaches gave Jimmy Rowe his marching orders, only to see him score an 81
8. Coaches decided Steven May was a bargain buy
12. Coaches where forced to trade Heath Chapman after his season ending injury

The way I see it Gulden and Chapman are simply cashing out cash cow rookies that have done their mooing. I don't count them as injury trades, as they have not really wasted a trade by going sideways.
I wish I had the luxury of not counting them as injury trades, but my reality now is that I'm not going to be able to complete a full premo team, and I'm going to be forced to keep some of these better rookies all season. A terrible position to be in.

Been a while since I’ve been favourite, albeit very slim, feeling the pressure @PC
