This locked thread is dedicated to storing rule changes that arise during the season:
  • Officially proposed
  • Unofficially proposed
  • ideas to be fleshed out from discussions
  • brain storming collections
  • other
All rule changes will be discussed and voted on by all teams before implementation.

By documenting in this manner, teams can be fully informed when making list decisions throughout the season.

These rules may begin with a notion, a simple idea or thought bubble, which will be fleshed out over time. When the rule is in a form ready for discussion, it will be posted in a dedicated rule discussion thread.

RUCK SUBSTITUTION

PROPOSED RULE CHANGE

RUCKS
When the Keeper League was developed (upon which the Ultimate is derived) AFL teams largely played two rucks. This allowed the keeper league to keep the same format and player positions as SC. As we have seen in recent years, with 2020 being more so, teams moving to one genuine ruckman and a stop gap for relief.

We that in mind, the proposed rule change is that teams will be allowed to play a forward as a ruck for one of their two ruck positions in the case they do not have enough rucks in their team to fulfill their team. Teams must have at least 4 ruck eligible players to able to access this rule.

This is to allow teams to still be competitive without giving teams an advantage who don't team-list rucks.

INFORMATION TO CONSIDER:
  • The top 20 rucks averaged ~70 or more. A reserve ruck replacing an injured main ruck is most likely to score around the teams main ruck.
  • The top 60 forwards averaged ~70 or more. Therefore, your 7th (if all players are fit) is likely to score below 70.
  • Having to play with a donut decreases the fun in the game, listing a young ruck for a few seasons who then gets a starting role is great fun. (ROB for me in keeper, Draper for Tim, etc)
Thoughts?

Hi coaches, apologies for the delay in getting this post up, it's been a busy week for us both (bar being able to watch practice matches whilst at work ;)). Firstly, thank you everyone for your timely responses to the survey.

As it stands, the RUC requirements will remain the same for season 2021 as they were for our inaugural season (the 2020 season).
That is, teams are required to field 2 RUCs within their selected sides.

The majority voted in favour of the proposed rule change, with integration to take place after one or two seasons being the preference.

Based on the leagues consensus at the conclusion of the 2021 season we will again assess the RUC landscape going forward.
Furthermore, we will continue to explore all possible options if necessary, and come to an agreed solution with another years data and UL experience under our belts.

Thanks.

RUCK DRAFT RULE

Players designated as a Ruck (Ruck only or DPP Ruck) will retain their Ruck status whilst they remain on team lists. This includes being traded to another team(s). If the player is cut from a team list or becomes a free agent (FA or RFA), there status when then be determined by the current SC designation.

For example, in 2021 Luke Jackson, Hayden McLean and Tristan Xerri would have all kept their Ruck status and would therefore have been RUC/FWD. Luke Jackson would keep his Ruck status if given a 2nd contract either by his current team or by his new team if traded.

This should increase the number of Rucks and allow teams to target Rucks in drafts or trades with the knowledge that they won't lose that status especially if they are given games at AFL level where the likelihood is they play the majority of time as a FWD and insufficient time in the RUC to retain that status for the following season.

PRESEASON DRAFT - LIST SIZE

Teams will be permitted leave up to two positions (supplementary selections) on their 44 player list unfilled at the completion of the Pre Season Draft. Teams must leave a minimum of $150,000 of salary per player available in their salary cap for drafting of top up players in the Mid Season Draft. Supplementary selections are a tradeable asset. These positions can only, and must, be filled via the Mid Season Draft.

LONG TERM INJURY LIST

The SCSUL Long Term Injury (LTI) list would work in the same manner as the AFL. Teams would be able to place players on the LTI list who won't play, and/or take any further part, in the current season.

Teams are eligible to claim up to $410,000 in salary cap relief of the players salary for the season. Teams will be responsible for the payment of the remainder of the players salary in that season, however the contract year won't be counted for cap purposes.

Teams will be able to replace the player through either the Pre Season or Mid Season Drafts.

A maximum of two players from a team will be eligible to be replaced through this process.

Positions opened on the list via a player placed on LTI list will be known as supplemental selections - LTI, which are a tradeable asset.
