Or like Roos said ideally you develop them in the VFL and just give them a 2-3 game taste every so often , play 6-10 games in their first season , increase it to 12-15 in their second season then they are actually ready for a full season.

It's funny you are starting these kids assumingly for a 10+ year career (can't recall the latest figure of how many are gone after 3 seasons) so what's the rush in their first year ? give them the first 6-8 games in the reserves so they get used to things , preparation & recovery , training full time , understanding defensive running and structures etc etc

.After Rougheads injury he had very little competition for a spot. I asked a couple of collingwood supporters who consider themselves 'in the know'. Dean was playing and the spot was his to lose. I cant think of any other players under 124k with as good job security as Dean.

Fair enough, I certainly don't have any contact with the inner sanctum ?

Do you know if Magden is still in the picture ? Thought they may have just went Howe, Magden, Moore until Roughead returned.

Could also use Ruscoe

I guess it is impossible to tell how a rookie will perform at this level until they actually debut in any case, could be completely lost.

I dont think he had good job security to be honest, had a spot in the side until Roughead was fit and was then 80/20 to get dropped, we would have honestly struggled to get two price rises out of him.

I assume Magden will definitely be playing now. I didnt ask I heard Cox had had a really good pre season!

Absolutely, its impossible to know how rookies will go until they play...but they have to play a few matches to find out.

If Fly plays Cox in the right position he is actually our most important player.

Sounds like the coach actually knows his strengths and how to design a game plan around him . hopefully he implements it in the coaches box on match day.
