The movement away from loops is one of the interesting developments of last few years. Back in my day the question was one or two, not zero or one.

Couldn't live without one myself (and still have no aversion to starting two). Missing out on some cash gen not a completely irrational argument, but my 16th best cash cow has never done me much good in the past.
Have always loved my loops. A lot depends on viable rookies come round 1 but I generally start a dead R3 (ideally R/F) and possibly another DPP (most likely a D/F) so I can take the higher of two rookie scores each week.

Btw I should also say I totally get the McInerney pick and think it has huge upside in a year where Gawn and Darcy both look overpriced with big question marks hanging over them.

I just think from a scoring point of view Marshall has the better floor. If he's actually riskier is a lot harder to say because it's difficult to quantify the exact injury risk as well as the injury risk versus the risk of scoring poorly (especially if Fort comes in, I don't think he can score the same as Marshall can in a R/F role)
Thanks for your thoughts.

I am uncertain who my 2nd Ruck will be. Having trouble trying to split Marshall and McInerney. Because of the 'unknowns', it is hard to lock one in.
If going by history, then McInerney is the one likely to play more games, therefore, by missing less games, should be the better scorer in the long run. But who knows.

Not sure why McInerney's average score was low pre-Bye (78), but after the Bye, he averaged 110.
Last year was only McInerney's 4th year playing AFL, maybe after the Bye last year, he has now evolved into a good ruckman???

McInerney's last 7 games, he averaged 117 playing against top Ruckmen (MEL, WCE, COL). From 3 years ago, he played 19, 17 and 21 games.
Marshall's last 7 games, he averaged 114 playing against only one top Ruckman (COL). From 3 years ago, he played 20, 17 and 13 games.

EDIT:
just read .......Marshall is wearing the no contact Fluro cap at Saints training today......... Got word from a Saints player on the weekend, some sort of issue with his ribs............

So far ive only found simple problems with the much talked abojt rucks

Gawn, that being. He being too expensive, Jackson factor AND the rd 14 bye

Marshall injuries and Ryder are his problems

Big Os new ruck buddy seems to lower his potential as well as it being early season and Lions arnt fighting for finals yet

Darcy= injuries

Witts cheap but no durability

Nic Nat, managed mins and also weak midfield means who is he going to tap it to if he gets the chance

ROB, Ruck buddy seems to be taking more time which lowers his scoring

Nank, unreliable

Annndd that pretty much sums up the rucks worth looking at this year, What that means for us, who knows

I think it's only really worth skipping the loophole when there's a rookie ruckman playing round one. I don't see a point picking a player who may get games which will cost me extra money who I will have to trade for nothing if a good rookie ruck other than himself emerges. Much better off grabbing a cheap as possible R/F loophole and trading a stalling cash cow in the forward line to the rookie ruck. If Hayes plays round 1, which seems unlikely, I'll forego the loophole this year and I'll pick him, otherwise I'm going for a cheap loophole.
I'd go even further and say if there's a playing ruck I would find another spot for my donut. If I got to the point I was skipping a rookie I actually wanted in favour of the donut, I might start to think a bit harder about it, but I honestly don't think that's ever happened.

What do you mean by the "Lions aren't for fighting for finals yet" comment ???

Have been in the finals last few years & I have them as one of the top 4 chances this year personally.

Grundy is the only real ruck you can lock in currently.

Yeah i agree with Grundy

I meant by the lions aren't fighting for finals as its early season

And when BigO was scoring big last season it was because lions wanted finals alot more after the byes

Or at least thats how i saw it

On Perth radio tonight Giants Mark McVeigh said that the Giants still did not know who would be No 1 ruck for Rnd 1. I came in late on the interview but he said Preuss and I presume Flynn were still both in it. Then was asked if Giants would be a two ruck team he replied if the opposition would allow us. Which I am taking to mean that GWS will do what they did last year. Play which ever ruck suits the opposition each week and sometimes they might play both.

Sounds like the end of Preuss as a R2 and probably even a bench option at that price.

It's like voting. You don't particular like any of the options, so you end up going picking the lesser of bad options.
Gawn at least has had a full preseason, playing in a dominate side and a defined roll. The only down side is a young ruck taking TOG% off him.
That downside risk is less risky than Darcy / Marshall getting injured or Big O having the same TOG% problems with Fort.
God I hope it goes better than the last time I voted. That said, no SC pick can be the kind of disaster that everyone else picking McGowan was

What will you do if Macrae (VC) scores 183 on opening night?
Just enjoy how good my premium mid goes and hope whoever I captain instead goes bigger! Assuming I find a way to squeeze him in!

They've lost their 2nd ruck as well so it's definitely possible, Giants side as a whole is very difficult to pick right now, about the only forwards that are locks are injured/suspended

Preuss in this situation is a disaster at R2, but still good for R3.

Preuss as #1 ruck for a few weeks is a fantastic rookie, a two ruck combo good rookie even missing a few game not great but not terrible as R3. Could have some great spike games as #1 ruck. If I can find the cash and he is named round 1 he is in.

Am I the only one that expected this all along? Thought it was pretty obvious they'd do this and Cameron said words to that effect early in the pre season, still think theres potential that Preuss works at R3 Flynn was similarly in and out and made an absolute bucketload of cash from that 200k range that Preuss is currently priced at last year, Preuss will still have a massive ceiling in the games he solo Rucks IMHO, May very well still pick him at R3 if he plays well this weekend personally.

I think Dixon is a very real round 1 chance, Simmo rated him our best player in the practice game v Freo. Can help out in the ruck also so could see us going with JK/Williams/Dixon as the 3 tall fwds & Williams/ Dixon backing NN up in the ruck.

Surely Waterman plays?

JK, Waterman and Dixon/BWilliams?
Yep - but only 25/26 fit players so might go in tall, Waterman is athletic & has been used on a wing at times.

Possible round 1 team :-

B Witherden, Barrass, Hurn
HB Nelson, McGovern, Rotham
C Gaff, Redden, Duggan
HF Jones, Dixon, Petruccelle
F Rioli, Kennedy, Ryan
FOL Naitanui, Kelly, Shuey *
INT SPS, Waterman, Langdon, Williams

Shuey touch & go for round 1

Would Edwards/Foley be the sub?
