How many games do you think Dixon could play if you had to guess conservatively based on what you know of injured/returning players who could/will push him out?

I am trying to figure out if he can get to 6-7 games.
With the Darling news, this really hurts his chances so not confident he gets to 6/7 games now.

I'd be making the cut somewhere else to be honest.

I'd say that JHF, Stephens and Ward are all in the top 7 rookie options this year and it gets pretty meek the second you move past that 7th rookie as well.

SDK right now is the only 123k rookie I'm genuinely expecting to make the round 1 team, there are always a couple of shocks out of nowhere, but right now he's the only one I'd put any money on being there and more than that he's the only one I'd think about betting on being there by round 3.
I wouldn't cull any of them either, but the question was asked on splitting either Ward or Stephens so I added my 2 cents (and assumed they also had JHF). I can see a situation, albeit higher unlikely, where a bunch of cheaper mid rookies are named. In this case, some coaches would be happy to take the risk on cheaper rookies, if they can use the extra cash from culling one of JHF/Ward/Stephens to improve their team. It's definitely not the percentage play, but worth considering who to cull if the cards fall that way.

I think Cox will get a bit of a grace period and be in the 22 for the first few rounds to find form, he is considered a big part of out future.

I think Martin will need one of Smith or Guelfi to be dropped to get in Rd 1.

He may get a gig as the sub Rd 1, but my gut thinks he will have to wait a couple of weeks before his debut.
I think everyone agrees that Martin is good and will play at some stage. With cheap rookies being in such short supply. is it worth picking Martin round 1 anyway? Will save a trade and be a loophole for the the Melbourne - Bulldogs game.

West Coast forward Jack Darling has been vaccinated and will be eligible to re-join the team for training this weekend.
The West Australian understands that while the paperwork surrounding the vaccine-reluctant star’s return is yet to be finalised, it remains the one hurdle delaying his return.

That hurdle is likely to be cleared at some point on Friday.

The news means that Darling has satisfied the league’s vaccination mandates which require players and staff to be double vaccinated to be allowed to attend the club and participate in training sessions

Darling has not been able to attend West Coast’s headquarters and has been training alone since the deadline for the first vaccination on January 21.
That's Dixon probably done as an option, if Martin doesn't get up we might be stuck with just Rachele, Durdin and Hayes as fwd rookies and most will be going Hayes at R3. Maybe Baldwin as well.

Depends how badly you want that loophole. You can't assume anyone "will play at some stage". He could well do an ACL in week 1 for example. He can be a loophole donut with upside (though I hate having them on my midfield bench, because that's where you usually make most of your money) but if you're banking on him actually playing you're setting yourself up for disappointment.

I wouldn’t be too worried about Darling.

Apparently North Melbourne said Jed Anderson would be 6 - 8 weeks away from playing.

Would still need to undergo somewhat of a pre season.

Even if Dixon is selected for the first month, he's probably first one out when Darling is ready to come back.

Darling was in absolute ripping shape before he stopped training at club... has continued training away from the club. He is reportedly still in top shape. So it won't take long to get him ready to play I don't think. He won't play RD 1 you wouldn't think. But I'd say he's in the conversation for RD 2.

Petracca was an obvious one, but Terlich and Hartley have also been good rookies who just missed out on rnd 1. From memory Terlich was part of a winners starting team despite not being named rnd 1. So it can be done. You'd want to be confident that player is the next person in if there is an injury.

Surely they wouldn’t have signed Dixon if Darling was ready round 2
