How confident are we all in the following playing the first 6-8 Rounds ? :-

Durdin
Maginness
Jeffrey
Kelly
SDK
Baldwin
Any others under $ 124,000k
Dixon
Hayes
Martin

Opportunity to use 3 trades in Round 3 are we better off waiting and re-assessing then ?

Durdin - moderate to high
Maginness - low to none
Jeffrey - dunno
Kelly - low
SDK - moderate
Baldwin - how long is Jones out for and does he replace him straight away when he returns?
Any others under $ 124,000k
Dixon - With Darling and Allen to return probably low past round 4 to 6
Hayes - Depends on Ryder's availability, should be a good loophole if he doesn't play
Martin - Seems to be on the fringe, looks like sub candidate to me, main competition would be Cox and Guelfi?

Soligo - moderate maybe, could play a bit forward
Hough - hardest one to read

Durdin certainly looks the one only one with any real JS and be confident to pick in our starting sides.

Be interesting if the Saints use Campbell and leave Marshall forward.

Dixon or Hayes both handy though , for those still looking at Preuss Round 4 (if he is playing) or possible swing with Xerri if he gets DPP

What's your thoughts on these defender ones ?

Hinge
Gibcus
NWM
McCartin
Kemp
Sinn

Think they all have queries whether it is injury concern , JS , Best 22 etc etc

Cheers

Hinge - on field startable and will get games, shoulder is an issue but scoring potential imo too good to pass up.
Gibcus - I think he gets a decent run, expensive bench option, probably doesn't make $150k
NWM - Don't think he gets in, they're not going to replace Hill and McKenzie I think they play on the wing.
McCartin - Seems to have cemented a spot in their back six, could be on field startable
Kemp - Wouldnt be surprised if he's named for Thursday, doesn't have a defined role and potentially a sub candidate. If given a role in the backline he's decent selection.
Sinn - Sub candidate? Looked decent in their pre-season games. Not the highest scorer in juniors from memory.

Cheers for that , similar thinking.

Be interesting if the Crows don't name Milera , who he replaces (possibly Soligo)

Article on AFL.com.au mentioning Wood playing wing for the Saints.

I have no idea if Reid eases out McCartin.

Might be a case of just grabbing any/all of which defender rookies are named and hanging on they play well enough to keep getting games.

Cheers

Really struggling with Hinge v Gibcus. The difficulty we now have is that if Hinge is named on the extended bench on Thursday, we won't know if he's playing before Gibcus is locked out. Really this only matters because I have Gibcus third behind McCartin and Hinge and would be my D7.

If Will Kelly and SDK get up too I might have a 3 def structure in my back pocket...

If Hinge is named on field then i'm picking him over Gibcus easily.

Some rumours about Josh Fahey possible round 1 debut

GWS 117K defender, draft profile :-

POSITION: Medium Defender

SNAPSHOT: “The leading Northern Academy prospect for 2021, Fahey’s dash out of defence and his penetrating left-foot kick are two of his biggest weapons.”

Playing across and impressing in multiple levels of competition this year, Josh Fahey has stepped up in most of the games he has been a part of in 2021. Selected in the AFL Academy for 2021, the Greater Western Sydney (GWS) Academy member won the MCC Presidents medal against Geelong VFL in April as the best player for the Under 19 side. Like in many of his performances, such honours were earned through Fahey's dare and dash off the half-back line, as well as his defensive work in a team which was blown out by over 100 points.

STRENGTHS:

+ Rebounding
+ Tackling
+ Run-and-Carry
+ Speed
+ Kick Penetration

IMPROVEMENTS:

- Kicking Consistency
- Exposure

Widely regarded as the top prospect from the Northern States this year, Fahey played games across multiple levels of competition in 2021; from representing the AFL Academy in the game against the Geelong VFL (where he won the MCC President’s medal for best on ground), to the GWS VFL side prior to COVID lockdowns, as well as Queanbeyan in the AFL Canberra League, adding dash and rebound damage off the half back line at all levels.

Fahey’s speed and courage in his rebounding from the backline forms a big part of how he plays, with his teammates often looking to get the ball to him so he can utilise those traits to move the ball forward quickly. Fahey also isn’t scared to push up the ground and intercept, quickly transitioning into attack when he does so. The ability to get a good amount of distance behind his kicks consistently plays a big part in his ability to break lines as well.

Fahey is able to get 50-60 metres behind his kicks without much issue, however, he can sometimes blaze away by foot when he is mainly aiming for distance rather than accuracy or penetration, and the result is a floater style kick. The other question mark over Fahey is his exposure at higher levels of football. With only limited VFL appearances this year and the one AFL Academy game, Fahey hasn’t necessarily been tested as much in his performances as some prospects, with the lack of championships being a big reason for this.

Can Leon be trusted though, has dropped rookies after 1/2 games in the past...

JS is there for Gibcus but really struggle to see how he will score enough to justify his price.

From memory he wasn’t even a prolific scorer in juniors. Much rather leave Hinge as a floating donut if not named.

Did he play at all in the preseason games?
