Not much talk of Hayden Young 92 & 123 , couple of mentions for Jack Sinclair 100 & 114.

Guess Hewett & Bowey are the popular choices.

Interesting thing I find is their could be 2-3 fallen defender premiums around the $ 500-525k mark in a few rounds that might be worth waiting for , obviously will be hoping some rookies can make some very quick $ over the next few rounds to do a downgrade/upgrade though

Today's thinking has me using my trades this round to try and get the best rookies , no doubt I will have different thoughts by lunchtime.

Most important week to get right guys, no pressure.

After a 100 back and forths i think this is the best option for my team overall even though it doesn't sit great trading a perfectly good premium out, and has a big chance/need for an exit strategy.

- Gawn to Xerri, swing Hayes into the rucks to free up cash.
- Chapman to Hewett (Keeping Whitfield o_O)
- Owen goes up to cripps, push both ward and stephens to the bench with no loop

Pretty happy with my start sitting just inside the top 2.5k.

Two trades I’ve made this week aren’t too risky
Whitfield for Cripps
Berry for Xerri

Don’t have the funds to bring in Heeney so will bypass.

Plan B which I’m still thinking about is to go
Whitfield -> Xerri
Durdin -> Martin
Hough -> Cripps

Gives me one more week to look at Berry vs NM and with Hough maybe out again with Covid protocols can jump on later if required. Means both Stephens and Ward are on my mid bench

Edit: The more I’m thinking about it maybe I go option 2? Let’s me keep all of Ward/Stephens/Berry and can still bring in Cripps. Was Bringing in Nic Martin next week anyway and Rutten confirmed he’s playing this week.

Pretty settled on;

BCampbell > Bowey
Whitfield > Cripps
Soligo > Xerri
$58k itb

Think theres plenty of cash gen there to start upgrading from round 6ish starting with Bowey to Steele/Mitchell

I'm interested in Hayden Young as a Whitfield replacement. Any Freo supporters have an opinion? It's only worth doing if he is a potential keeper.

I'm not keen on picking a bloke who is 5'9" and 70kg who has played 9 games, but I would like to free up money from the trade to facilitate getting Caldwell in. Already have Hewett.

Bowey guarantees another trade down the track, but I'm wondering whether Young may not?

Gawn > English
Berry > Cripps

Gives me this team with less than $10k ITB... 1648602959097.png

I loathe to trade Gawn out but there's no way to generate cash without doing so.
The only must have rookie I am missing is Martin, who will come in next week.

After some thought, I will hold onto Ridley & Whitfield.
Pretty happy with all my lines bar defence.

I could go all the way down to Witts instead of English to generate more cash to sit on.
Any strong thoughts or views in these trades?

To my eyes and purely trying to maximise on field points, I would prioritise D>F>M.

D: You can afford to get anyone, world's your oyster
F: See above for D
M: Petracca/Brayshaw would slot in nicely, but means choosing between JHF/Daicos for M8 (good luck)

***I see Bowey at D4, if this was part of this round trades then I would suggest moving him to a proper premium and grab Stephens instead. Both good cash cows with a good R2 score banked, I always take the lower priced cash cow in this situation.
Thanks for the thoughtful response. It's actually helped crystallise my thinking.

Part of it is that I'm conscious Daicos probably slots into D6 after Rd 6, and that whilst happy enough with my 3 top DEF, have question marks over the other premos there. Essentially happy to 'spend' some points on additional info. But you're correct in that it's the weakest line, so trying to improve both points and dollars with Bowey (who is in this week as you suggested). Stephens perhaps marginally better $$, but won't likely add to my points. Think Bowey's a chance to average 85-95 whilst Salem out, which hopefully means more time to choose the next premo and less $$ required to acquire them.

For the mids, as you alluded to, it would mean taking one of the high priced / performing rookies off the field.

So the FWDs it is! Now just have to choose who.

Might just go
1/Marshall to Naish (for/mid) via English to the ruck
2/ J. Berry to A. Brayshaw

Wanted to keep Berry and trade Ward but not enough cash.
Was thinking of Durdin/Ward to Rachele but might save a trade.
Will bring in Nic Martin next week for Ward or Owens although Owens is a handy loophole at the moment.

I'd previously considered using a downgrade of Ridley to Bowey (not ideal at D4) or McGovern to Skinner (potential dead rookie) to get me Cripps.

But what if I didn't have to compromise? Steele > Cripps, McGovern > Heeney

I don't love the idea of losing Steele, however he's not currently a captaincy candidate which is no good at his price and Touk, Neale, and Oliver can do the job fine. Heeney off the back of 2x 140s and 8.0 feels a bit like the horse has bolted to a degree. Still, he's covering the ground really well, tackling, and kicking goals running forward from the midfield/wing rather than being used as a marking target. It's hard to say no to 2-for-1 keepers deal when the two value options have shown the scoring concerns that led me to avoid them initially aren't an issue (at least for now anyway). I don't like following the crowd to such a degree, although that's not as much of an issue so early in the season.

Something completely different

Gawn - > Jackson
Milera - > Hinge
McGovern - > Petracca via Brodie

90% of teams are all looking the same already

Bypass Xerri 🤔 , by pass Hayes (if named) 🤔

Opens up the option of bringing in Preuss @ R2 if he actually plays and looks viable.

Or holy ****

Gawn - > Hayes
McGovern - > Xerri
Milera - > Hinge

Gives me $ 767k in the Bank and 3 of the better rookies I am missing

Trust Hayes (Dixon) @ R2 until Xerri gets DPP ? 🤔 or look at Preuss if it all falls to crap

What plans do you have in store for the large sum of cash given interest cannot be received?

Might donate it to charity 😀

Wait 2-3 rounds for some rookies to fatten up then some fallen premiums to drop and go bang bang.

Haven't fully looked at BE's/price projections yet but :-

Crisp , Dawson , Lloyd , Rich , Ridley , Stewart
Oliver , Steele

etc etc might all be tasty Round 5-6 ish

get Curnow to a premium mid via JHF after Round 7.

Does Xerri maintain his scoring and then be a viable R2 after Round 7 ? no idea

Does Preuss even play (and stay) and be viable ? no idea

Lot's of options and unknowns at the moment.

The more I think of trades and the new boost tool I think coaches could get a decisive strategic move using 3 trades this week.
Suring up all rooks but also taking advantage of some players whom have blossomed in new roles. With 5 boosts available I certainly am an advocate for using one this week.

I am 100% using a boost. It’s just a matter of which combo of 3 players I go with. So, so many options.
